Our mother (Lisa Fayers) had to evacuate her home on the 28th of February at 11 pm. The Woodburn floodwaters had almost reached the second story of her house and wholly inundated downstairs. Since then, the river has risen more than 2 meters (making it 1.75m higher than the 1954 flood), meaning that the water is most likely up or over the ceiling. She does not have insurance either as she cannot afford it due to her location and will have to fund the restoration of her home and replace her possessions entirely by herself.

She is still at the evacuation centre with only the clothes on her back and her dog. Her phone is almost out of charge with no electricity, and she is sleeping on the hard floor at the shelter. Due to the height of the water, it isn't expected that she will be able to leave the shelter there for several days. And once she does leave, she cannot stay in her home. Yet, despite all this, she has been providing medical care as an RN to those in need at the emergency shelter.

If you feel impressed to give to help our mum, it would be greatly appreciated. There is no obligation to do so, and she doesn't know that we're doing this. She is the sort of person that wouldn't generally ask for help. We also know there is so much need at the moment with disaster all around us. So, if you can give here, we also ask you to give generously to others in need too. Every little bit can go such a long way.

Thank you so much for helping our mum

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “ Acts 20:35

Lisa Fayers Flood Help

It is with deep sadness and grief we share that Dion Tully, father, husband and minister of the Gospel, passed to his rest last night. While the specific cause is unknown, this tragic and sudden loss was likely the result of a rare and unpredictable health complication.

Dion leaves behind his wife and five precious children, ages 2 to 18, who grieve in shock at the loss of their husband and father gone much too soon.

Dion’s love for life and people shaped him into the kind of man who literally gave the shirt off his back to others. He lived following in Jesus’ footsteps, serving and ministering to those in need. Together we have an opportunity to honour and celebrate his life by caring for the family he has left behind.

Like never before, they need our prayers, love and support at this traumatic time. All financial support will go directly to the family to assist with funeral costs and transition expenses as they try to rebuild their lives without a husband and father.

Thank you for your generous support.

Our lovely friend and big mumma Rosemary Bowa has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This is a cancer in the plasma. She has started treatment which consists of chemotherapy and eventually bone marrow transplant. Her health fund is not covering the chemo as it is an injection. They also do not cover the medication she takes home as her cover is hospital cover. A lot of our lovely colleagues and friends have wanted to help and I believe this to be the best way. We would all like to at least take this worry away so that she can focus on her health.

The recent bushfires on Kangaroo Island have impacted not only the wildlife, but the population of pure Ligurian bees.

The survival and propagation of the Ligurian bee is critical to its survival. Over half of the bees' habitat has been burnt to the ground, hundreds of hives have been lost and nectar and pollen sources wiped out in the bushfire.

The Ligurian bee is an essential component of our Australian and international agriculture success, providing pollination services as well as beautiful honey for the Australian bush.

The Ligurian bee has proved itself as a defence against attacks from Varroa and Trachael mites (which have been known to wipe out whole colonies of other bees rapidly) when exported to other parts of the world from the pristine, protected environment of Kangaroo Island.

The Ligurian bee has a long and successful heritage on Kangaroo Island having first arrived on the island in 1884. They have been protected by an Act of South Australian Parliament since 1885 and now the only pure strain of Ligurian Bee in the world is on Kangaroo Island - due in part to the forethought of the SA Parliament’s Act.

Without ongoing breeding capability the Ligurian bee is under threat of extinction. With hundreds of hives lost in fire grounds between Stokes Bay and the south coast, breeding Queens have been reduced to critical numbers. Funding is required to purchase more hives for breeding and propagating pure Ligurian Queen bees so that the species can continue its important Agricultural work both in Australia and overseas.

This campaign has been setup by a friend of Stephen's (Helen Sampson) as he didn't have access to the internet, or power, for several days during the peak of the bushfires. Now that Stephen has access via the internet he is also administering this campaign. All money will go directly to Stephen Heatley to buy new hives, hive stands and Queen Bee breeding equipment in the hope that the strong Queens can help replenish the national stock of this important insect.

Save Kangaroo Island's Pure Ligurian Queen Bees

Who we are: Just two Belco mums keen to spread warmth in the Canberra cold to the peeps in our community that are doing it tough.

Who we're raising money for: It's for the folks who are sleeping rough on our streets and at local shelters. The ones who are freezing but don't have the essentials like most of us take for granted. We're talking the basics: socks, gloves, scarves and beanies.

Our aim: To give these essentials to as many homeless Canberrans as possible. And it is possible! We've done our research and these are the items they're asking for this time of year.

What we're asking for: For YOU to spare $10. That's it.

By sparing $10 we can purchase:
- 1 pairs of thermal socks OR
- 1 thermal scarf OR
- 1 thermal beanie OR
- 1 pair of thermal gloves.

And don't worry, we've crunched the numbers on how far your $10 can go.

How these essentials will reach the homeless:
Based on the money we raise, we'll purchase as many of these items as we can. The kind peeps at Vinnies will hand these goodies out from their 'Night Patrol' vans. The Night Patrol Vans visit the Dickson Shopping Centre, Garema Place and the Cube Area in Civic every night.

Spare us a $10 now:
We need to provide these essentials ASAP because 'Winter is coming!' We'll be purchasing and delivering these goodies in the beginning of June. And yes, that was a Game of Thrones reference!

We hope you can join us by sparing a $10 to spread warmth to those in our community who are doing it tough.

Love,
Soud & Em x
