<div>Hailey is a Grade 12 student at South Secondary School in London, Ontario, and has been passionate about dance since she was just 3 years old. She has spent countless hours training and performing at Absolute Dance in Kilworth, always lighting up the stage with her energy and smile. Her dream is to attend university and become a teacher, but right now, her focus is on beating cancer.

<div>On October 18, 2024, her world changed when her parents, Damen and Ly, received a phone call that no parent is ever prepared for. After undergoing an MRI to investigate hormonal issues, the results revealed two brain tumors. They were instructed to bring Hailey immediately to the emergency department at the Children’s Hospital in London.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Following several weeks of hospital stays and numerous tests, Hailey underwent brain surgery to obtain biopsies of the tumors. Thankfully, the surgery went well, and two weeks later, the results came in—Hailey’s tumors were confirmed to be cancerous.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Her doctors developed a comprehensive treatment plan consisting of four months of chemotherapy, followed by three months of radiation. Hailey is now completing her third round of chemo, and we are incredibly grateful that the tumors are responding positively.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, due to the nature of her cancer, Hailey requires a specialized form of radiation called Proton Beam Therapy, which is not currently available in Canada. To receive this critical treatment, Hailey and her family must travel to the University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville, Florida, in March 2025. While the radiation treatment itself will be covered by OHIP, the associated costs—such as travel, accommodations, meals, and lost income—are not totally covered.

<div>Hailey’s mother, Ly has been off work to care for her throughout this journey and will continue to be by her side for the months ahead. The funds raised through this GoFundMe will help cover the significant costs of travel and living expenses in Florida, as well as support the family during this difficult time. Hailey’s younger brother Conrad who is 12 years old has also been very brave and supporting his sister through all of this.

Help Hailey Merrylees Fight Brain Cancer!

<div>I am reaching out on behalf of my little sister Danielle, who has encountered a tragic accident while traveling in Thailand.

<div>Danielle suffered a hit and run by a drunk driver while riding her scooter in Koh Phangan. As a result of the accident her right foot got severely mangled and requires immediate surgery in order to save her foot.

<div>Danielle is currently in Koh Samui and needs to be airlifted to Bangkok to undergo surgery. Time is of the essence and the situation is critical. Without immediate intervention, she risks losing her foot entirely.

<div>While Danielle has health insurance, the expenses for her surgeries, airlifting her to Bangkok and then flying back to Canada are estimated to exceed $150,000

<div>Lei is a promising young student who was earning his PhD in Chemistry at the University of British Columbia.  Prior to that he was a student at the University of Waterloo and Beijing Jiaotong University.

<div>On October 14th, 2023, for leisure and fun, he joined a hobbyist level kickboxing tournament advertised as “light” and “controlled” contact. Multiple bouts occured. Shortly following his final bout his health rapidly deteriorated and he lost consciousness.

<div>He was evacuated to hospital where an acute subdural hematoma was diagnosed (a life threatening traumatic brain bleed). He lies in a vegetative state at Royal Colombian Hospital. It is unclear if or when he will regain consciousness.
</div>

<div>His mother has flown from overseas to be by his bedside. She sits there daily with mounting costs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The family is facing significant expenses. While Canadian public insurance is in place for his hospital needs he likely will soon be transferred to long term care where private funding can pay for better conditions. Additionally his mom hopes to bring him home to China. She has been quoted a cost of over $100,000 for this alone.

<div>Hi, we are Des &amp; Sinead, we are the owners and proprietors of the Osprey Hotel.

<div>We bought the hotel which was in a state of disrepair early in 2019. We set about the transformation of the hotel from day one with a fixed conviction to make the Osprey a haven for those who seek superior comfort accompanied with exceptional hospitality. Despite the devastating arrival of Covid within months of our acquisition, we continued to sink our life savings and every waking hour into the transformation of the Osprey. After four years of dedication, we managed to transform our dreams into a reality. With hundreds of repeat and return guests The Osprey had achieved the reputation it deserved. Beautifull rooms supported with unrivalled hospitality.

<div>Sinead and I closed the doors for the season in October 2023 for a much-needed winter break. However, to our horror, on our return on the 19th of December, a pipe in the loft had become dislodged, and for several weeks, water had been flowing through the hotel from loft to ground floor. Such was the damage, that everything we worked so hard for was destroyed. Every wall, ceiling and floor will have to be ripped out. Every door frame, door, cornice and skirting, needs replaced. All the soft furnishings, mattresses, carpets, TVs and electronics are destroyed. Our commercial kitchen equipment and dining room along with furniture and décor are also destroyed.

<div>Disastrously, our insurance have refused cover citing the fact that we were away from the premises and out of the country in excess of thirty days. 
</div>

</div>
<div>The Osprey is our life, business and home. We will need to strip the hotel back to its joists and we will. We intend to rebuild it bigger and better. The estimated cost to do this will be in region £125,000, we will start in January 2024 and hopefully have the hotel up and running again and back to its best by May 2024.
</div>

</div>
<div>We can raise at around half of this figure ourselves, although this will take time and hopefully with your help we can get the project started immediately, if we fall short we will approach the bank towards the end of the project, by then building will be in a good state to remortgage and release the remaining costs.
</div>

We don’t seek charity, instead we ask for your <span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;">help to get the Osprey back up and running by July. <div>Living with ALS...Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease is a motor neuron disease that progressively paralyzes the body. The brain is no longer able to communicate with muscles in the body and over time, as muscles break down the person with ALS loses the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and eventually breathe. As some of you know, our son, brother, friend, Uncle, and Grandpa Mike ( Scully) has been diagnosed with this terrible disease. In Jan he was officially diagnosed with Bulbar ALS. Unfortunately, this type affects the upper body first so Mike is unable to speak, eat, or swallow. His right arm and leg are also affected, so walking is getting a bit precarious. Mike and Christine have had to adjust to this diagnosis and have done so with such courage and strength, The feelings of grief, loss, and heartbreak are felt by them and everyone who knows this wonderful couple.

<div>Mike has had an extraordinary life. He worked in the Toronto film industry as a gaffer, best boy or lighting tech for 30 years. When not working he was diving in the South Pacific filming his underwater videos. Many of us have listened to his long stories about his adventures. This disease has robbed him of telling more tales and having more adventures. He is now needing our help to have all the comforts he needs.  Christine will be off work and acting as the primary caregiver to Mike.

<div>They need to renovate the main floor bathroom with a wheelchair-access shower and a new toilet. There needs to be a new deck built at the back door and a ramp for wheelchair accessibility. These are the first of many expenses they will face and as Mike's (Scully) disease progresses there will be more.

The sudden loss of such a young, energetic, and joyful soul has left Alex and her older daughter, Izabelle, devastated.

<div>Charlotte was a ray of sunshine in the lives of those who knew her. Her contagious giggle, big bright eyes, and beautiful smile brought boundless joy to any room she entered. Dancing, creating art, and spending time with her loved ones were her greatest passions. Alex, Charlotte and Izabelle all shared an unbreakable bond and inseparable connection. As you can imagine this tragedy has left them distraught. During this extremely difficult time we want Alex to have the freedom to take time away from work in order to process the loss of Charlotte, grieve and start the healing process as well as support Izabelle in the loss of her little sister. <div>Annie was diagnosed with cancer Summer of  2020. She's a private person by nature, and the diagnosis made her even more so. She wanted to protect her boys. She wanted to get better so she could continue working. And honestly, she just didn't really want to talk about it. She wanted to live her life, on her terms, and be with her family.

<div>Annie lived for her family. She loved her work and cherished her friends, but Steve and the boys were her absolute everything. This Go Fund Me is for them. It's so Steve can have time to grieve without the pressure of needing to work. So he can be daddy to Freddie (12), Ozzie (9) and Archie (4) as they navigate the future without their mom, without sweet Annie. It's so they can continue to go to baseball games (Go Cardinals!) take music lessons and play little league. It's to help pay for college. It's so Steve can continue Annie's tradition of filling the house with every life-sized balloon that'll fit in the car for birthday mornings. It's to give them time to navigate life as a family of four without the burden of paying medical bills or funeral expenses. It's so they can continue to live life in a way that they know would make Annie proud.

<div>My name is Dan and I am the son of Grant Slater, who most of you know as the loveable, talented and most of all kind-hearted musician that, at some point, has made you laugh with a Bullwinkle impression or an accordion solo.

<div>Now he needs your help to fight a terrible disorder that is threatening to take his life away.

<div>This year my dad was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a cognitive disorder that includes the symptoms of dementia. Unfortunately, the effects of this have been rapid and have severely affected his quality of life. This is not to say that he isn't the same Grant that we all love. But it is becoming harder and harder for him to be himself.

<div>Luckily, he has a great support system and the people around him immediately sprang into action. Led by his loving wife, Kim, he was placed within the Canadian health system. But as we all know, the hospital system is strained, and after a series of cancelled appointments, misdiagnosis, and general apathy, he was eventually tested for, but deemed not to be, a candidate for the standard NPH treatment - shunt surgery that drains excess fluid from the brain.

<div>Luckily, through Kim's family in Ohio, he was swiftly accepted into the world renowned Cleveland Clinic. He has already travelled to Cleveland twice for his intake consult appointment and testing. Based on the level of care and expertise experienced by the doctors there, we finally have reason to believe again.

</div>
<div>More trips to the Cleveland Clinic are ahead, and obviously, accessing medical care in the US is not covered by OHIP.  Any procedures, travel costs, and treatments he needs are all out of pocket expenses – much of which is required to be paid in advance.
</div>

<div>We are all committed to helping him get his life back. So I'm asking all of you to help relieve the financial burden this will place on Grant and his family. We don't know yet what this will cost, but we know it will be more than we are asking.

<div>Friends, it's just not possible to go through life without knowing and loving someone or being someone who has had to face Cancer. And it's really, really complicated. There are so many kinds of Cancer, and so much more scientific research is needed to prevent it, treat it and save lives. It is everyone's fight.

<div>And that is why for my 45th birthday, I've chosen to raise money in support of the Terry Fox Research Institute. This idea is inspired and dedicated to my beloved Aunt Colette, who has been in chemo for over a year. GIGI'S B-DAY HEAD SHAVE FOR CANCER RESEARCH!

<div>This Gofundme was started for my daughter, Kylee Carnegie-Middlebrook (Kylee Doyscher), after much thought and consideration of all other options. Kylee was diagnosed in 2018, at the age of 26, with a very rare and aggressive cancer and has been fighting ever since. We are now at the point where she needs a life-saving surgery &amp; it’s being denied to her in Canada. Dr. David Bartlett, one of the top surgeons in his field with decades of experience, has successfully done virtually hundreds of these surgeries and has agreed to perform the surgery for Kylee. Dr. Bartlett works out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Allegheny Health Network (AHN), a not-for-profit hospital in the US. The estimated cost of the surgery provided to Kylee by AHN, including all necessary treatments known at this time and the approximate 2 week stay in the hospital following surgery, is $75,000 USD, which converts to approximately $100,000 Canadian (exchange rate varies daily). We are hopeful that the surgery will be done by December 2022 at the latest. Many friends, family members &amp; co-workers have asked us how they can help, if we are doing a fund-raiser for Kylee, etc. We decided to share her story so anyone who would like to know more and who might like to help, may do so.

<div>Kylee had her appendix removed in early May 2018 because of abdominal pain that was thought to be a symptom of appendicitis. Within a couple of weeks, the pathology came back as moderately-differentiated mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix – stage 4 appendiceal cancer (AC). At the time, knowing nothing about this rare disease, we just followed our local surgeon’s advice and he removed the right side of her colon and several lymph nodes, which showed no residual malignancy. Following this surgery, Kylee was referred to a team of appendix cancer specialists at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Although the results of the second surgery showed no evidence of further disease, due to the aggressive nature of her type of AC, which also has a high recurrence rate, these specialists recommended 6 months of chemotherapy treatments, with CT scans at 3-month intervals. After the chemo regimen and with clear follow-up tests done over the next year, we hoped this nightmare was behind us. Fast forward to July 2020 - after her second planned diagnostic laparoscopy, we were given the heart-breaking news that her cancer was back. Within 2 weeks she was at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto undergoing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with HIPEC, which members of the AC community have dubbed the “mother of all surgeries (MOAS)”. This 10-hour surgery included removing all visible cancer nodules, various organs ie. her omentum, ovaries, peritoneum, and the scraping of several more organs. This was followed by HIPEC, a procedure to wash the entire abdominal cavity for 90 minutes with a heated chemotherapy solution, to try to kill any microscopic cells that may remain, in hopes that the disease does not return. Six months later, her second follow-up CT result was a suspected recurrence and this was confirmed 3 months later after her next scan. Due to the toll that this surgery takes on a person’s body, if repeat surgery is needed, the preference is to wait 2 years, the time it takes for the body to fully recover. Now Kylee was in a “watch &amp; wait” situation, with the plan of beginning chemo again in August 2021 in hopes of again stopping the disease from progressing. After 5 bi-weekly chemo treatments, Kylee’s health started to rapidly deteriorate and what was found was that a large blood clot had formed in the main vein that returns blood flow to the heart, as well as 2 small pulmonary emboli. This was a huge setback, causing her chemo treatments to be stopped, as these life-threatening blood clots had to be addressed. The delay in chemo treatments resulted in the cancer rapidly spreading over the next three months to the point where the disease was so extensive that the Toronto doctors no longer considered Kylee a candidate for surgery. They felt the only option at this point was maintenance chemotherapy, possibly providing Kylee with a little better quality of life, but leaving her with maybe a year to live. A second opinion from a specialist in Calgary agreed with Toronto’s opinion and he felt he couldn’t offer Kylee anything. Chemo began again in April 2022 and after 2 treatments a series of more setbacks occurred causing further treatment delays &amp; more growth in the cancer. Kylee is currently on a new weekly chemo schedule of 4 weeks on then 2 weeks off &amp; repeat, over the next 3 months, which we hope will stop any further growth and possibly shrink some tumours to relieve the constant pain she is now enduring, and she is anxiously awaiting a chance at surgery to save her life.

<div>On the morning of Thursday, December 23, 14-year-old Valentina Orellana Peralta sadly died when an LAPD's officer's stray bullet struck her when in a clothing store dressing room shopping with her mother. Valentina and her mother went to Los Angeles from Santiago, Chile to be reunited with Valentina's older sister, and with the goal of a better life in California just months before her death. Aside from it being a tragedy to anyone who reads Valentina's story, our hearts ache at the senselessness of her death.

<p>A beautiful bell cast by Paul Revere and Sons foundry was purchased in 1812 from Revere by Lt. David Brown and donated to the First Congregational Church of Becket. After many years of use, the bell cracked and had to be recast. At the time it was recast it is said that 100 silver dollars were added to the the molten metal to “sweeten the sound”.

<p>The bell pealed out at noon on Patriots Day, April 19, 1951, the anniversary of Paul Revere’s Ride, with all other ring-able Revere bells, to remind Americans again of their nation’s heritage.

<p>The bell is currently housed in the belfry atop the historic Becket church in a beautiful location in the center of town within an historic district and is the only one of its kind remaining in Berkshire County.

<p><br />The bell is in danger due to extensive damage from powderpost beetles in the timber-frame structure that supports the bell and belfry. There is also extensive damage in the basement. <br /><br />The church endeavors to restore/replace the belfry structure and supports so the bell will be heard on into the future.
