The day started as any other. I woke up at 2 am for work at the FedEx warehouse and got back by 9. My mom had been asking me to mow the lawns, but I kept hesitating because it’s been raining and the grass was wet. When I finally decided to try, the mower kept shutting off due to grass buildup, so I spent hours cleaning it and mowing. After finishing, I parked the mower in the garage, not realizing how hot it had gotten. I closed the garage doors and went inside, but soon after, I heard popping noises and saw smoke. My friend, whose apartment is on the other side of the garage wall, alerted me to the fire. I rushed to the garage, but it was already filled with thick black smoke. I panicked, ran outside the apartment door and around the house to the garage side door, it was locked so I kicked down the door, and ran inside to save my mother's dog and open the big garage door to air it out and get the hose on the fire. The heat was overwhelming, and I inhaled black smoke, not able to see or breathe. I felt my body breaking down, but adrenaline pushed me to keep going. I managed to get out, then tried to get back in through the front door, but it was locked and filled with smoke. My sister was still inside, trying to rescue her cats. She was scratched and injured, she came stumbling down the stairs and fell but I was able to pull her out of the smoke while she was crawling. We were all in disbelief, heartbroken, and miserable. I kept trying to put out the fire, sustaining third-degree burns to my hand and chemical burns on my arms. My right arm still feels like it's burning. This was the scariest moment of my life, but thankfully all the humans made it out safe. We lost invaluable memorabilia and pets, but the material things can be replaced and the animals are in heaven now, and we are grateful for every moment we have together. The funds raised will be used for construction repairs, cleaning and item recovery. We lost about $100,000 in damages and items, including a newly purchased water heater that melted, my moms room got it the worst and she lost everything including a new laptop about a few months old that we got her for a birthday gift and previous devices with saved photos and videos she can’t ever recover, almost all important documents and her entire life was in that room and now it’s all ashes. We are seeking to raise $45,000 to help restore our home and care for our pets. We will not use these funds for any personal expenses or anything other than the house and any personal expenses will be covered by family or personal funds the animals, God bless were covered by an angel fund at the veterinary hospital.
