That same day, I turned in my work badge and laptop to Wells Fargo and walked out of the job I loved. Overnight, I lost my legal right to work, my income, career and the stability I had spent years building. I didn’t lose these things because I did anything wrong, but because a policy decision was made—one that pulled the ground out from under my life.

He is the steady heart of our ʻohana, known for his strength, generosity, and selflessness. Today, Chad is facing the fight of his life, and our family is asking for the same love and support he has so freely given to others.

<div>In mid-November 2025, Chad began experiencing stomach pain, fatigue, and eventually yellowing of eyes (jaundice). On November 25, he went to the emergency room, where imaging revealed a mass on his liver. An MRI confirmed the mass, and on November 28, doctors performed an emergency procedure (ERCP) to place two stents and collect a biopsy. Since then, he has had two additional (ERCP) procedures to elevate the pain and discomfort.

<div>On December 2nd, the biopsy confirmed devastating news. Chad was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer of the bile ducts. He and his wife Naomi must now travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on January 4th for emergency surgery to remove the mass.

<div>My name is Anandi Seepaulsingh, I am 38 years old and I'm originally from Trinidad and Tobago. In Trinidad, I was surrounded by my big family and the beautiful scenery of the island. I worked as an Attorney-at-Law and thoroughly enjoyed helping my clients find peace and happiness. I migrated to Texas, USA in 2022 to have a better life with my husband and my beautiful son, Zayn (aged 7). I'm now recently separated and mom to another beautiful soul named Anais who is lovingly called Sunny (age 1). Also, I currently work at an amazing tech company as a Document Analyst and I felt like life was finally settling into a beautiful rhythm.

<div>A few months after giving birth to Sunny, in April 2025, I noticed blood in my stool. I ignored it for a few weeks because I thought it was a hemorrhoid and I knew this was part of birth recovery. When the bleeding continued for 3 months, I went to my PCP who was also of the belief that it was hemorrhoids and treated it as such. But the bleeding continued and it was now August 2025. In September 2025 I began getting pains in my lower abdomen, lower back and pelvic bone. The pain would be more intense whenever I went to the toilet and it felt like there was a blockage preventing the stool from coming out. In October 2025 I advocated for the PCP to send me to a gastroenterologist, Dr. Hamza Aziz of Memorial Hermann, Cypress. I finally got an appointment in November 2025 and he ordered a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis. The CT scan results showed that the sigmoid colon was inflamed. He then scheduled a colonoscopy which was done on December 15, 2025. While in recovery, Dr Aziz told me that unfortunately he found a mass during the colonoscopy and in his experience, it was consistent with a malignant tumor. He immediately referred me to Dr. Urmeel Patel of Texas Oncology and Dr. Harith Mushtaq of UT Physicians Colon &amp; Rectal Clinic. Also, on this date, after the colonoscopy, a second CT scan was done.

<div>Upon meeting Dr. Patel he confirmed that the tumor was an adenocarcinoma. He also stated that the second CT scan that was done by Dr. Aziz showed numerous nodules in my lungs that were concerning. In light of this, he ordered a PET scan to be done from my skull to mid-thigh.

</div>

</div>

<div>I also met with Dr. Mushtaq that same week who walked me through what the tumor meant, stated that from the CT scan it appeared to be Stage 2 sigmoid colon cancer and he explained how he would perform the surgery to remove it. However, he wanted to have an MRI to confirm the exact location and size of the tumor.

</div>

<div>The PET scan was done on December 27, 2025 and Dr. Patel confirmed that the report stated that nodules in my lungs seemed consistent with metastatic cancer from the primary colon cancer. However, because of how small the nodules were, he wanted to be absolutely sure that these nodules were in fact cancerous and not because of any other auto-immune disease or respiratory infection. He then ordered a lung biopsy to be done.

<div>While I waited for the hospital to schedule the lung biopsy, I did the MRI scan on January 6, 2025. Dr. Mushtaq then gave me some shocking news. The MRI scan revealed that the tumor was not in the sigmoid colon but it was actually in the upper rectum. He also said that the tumor had infiltrated lymph nodes and there were tumor deposits on the outside of the colon wall. This meant that I was now at Stage 3 rectal cancer. He further went on to explain that surgery would not be considered right now because they needed to see the lung biopsy results. Nonetheless, he scheduled the port placement surgery because the team had already decided that chemotherapy would be the focus. The port placement surgery happened on January 13, 2026.

<div>The lung biopsy was done on January 27, 2026 and it was such a scary experience! The doctor who performed the biopsy said that it was a high risk procedure for her because the nodules were so small, they were located very close to blood vessels so I was at risk for bleeding, and that there was a risk of a pneumothorax. I cried when she left the room. But my family gave me reassurance and strength and I knew I had to do this so that I could start my journey to healing and being with my babies for years to come.

<div>The lung biopsy revealed that the nodules were in fact cancerous and I am now considered a Stage 4 rectal cancer patient with metastasis to the lungs. Dr. Patel confirmed that this is going to be a long hard journey that will involve aggressive treatments, numerous scans, radiation and possible clinical trials that may best suit my circumstances. He then scheduled my first chemotherapy infusion for February 2, 2026. My medical team has been working with me closely and constantly so that I can achieve my goal of being cancer free and living many years to see my beautiful babies grow into amazing adults.

<div>As I begin this fight, the reality of medical bills, ongoing treatment, medications, home and childcare expenses, and time away from work has become overwhelming. My focus right now needs to be on healing, staying strong for my family, and responding to treatment - not on how to cover the growing financial strain that comes with cancer care. Any contribution, no matter the amount, helps lift a piece of that burden and allows me to put my energy where it matters most. I am grateful for every donation, prayer and message of support. <p>Yesterday the family received the absolutely devastating news the Rosamund is now incurable. Since her transplant she has been suffering with transplant graft versus host disease and underlying viruses. It is also apparent that the AML has returned despite the transplant. The doctors have advised that there is nothing more they are able to offer in terms of treatment. The hospital are trying to arrange for transfer home/to a more local hospital for palliative care.

<div>My Mother, Fern Riggio, 66 years old, unable to walk, was diagnosed with stage 2 Kidney Cancer almost 1 and 1/2 years ago. Due to mobility issues and weight complications, the surgery to remove her kidney was delayed, and then the doctors discovered stage 4 ovarian and cervical cancer.

<div>Doctors recommended that she undergo chemotherapy to shrink the cancer enough to have surgery. However, on November 7th, 2026, my Mother suffered from a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain, likely due to the medication she's been taking.

<div>She is doing okay, but her left arm is recovering mobility and her brain fog is still clearing up. Short-term memory is difficult for her, but her long-term memory is strong still. Optimistic, my family, which is Father, Chris Riggio, my golden retriever, and myself (I am an only child), hoped that the progress recovering from the stroke would enable her to have kidney surgery sooner.

I finished a meeting with a student director I supervise for McMahon Hall (old legacy building that I am an Assistant Resident Director for), I had multiple meetings with ASUW (University of Washington) Student Government, and I planned to finish writing my honors thesis on victim reparations research.

<div>The phone rang at 2:14 PM. It was my Dad. The Doctors told my Dad that the cancer spread to the lungs. Because of the stroke, she had to delay the surgery which undid the progress fighting off the cancer. The kidney, cervical, and overian cancer is curable, or the tumors at least,<strong> but the endometrium/lung cancer is not.</strong>

<div>February 13th at 2:14 PM, I learned that my Mom had "between 1 to a few years left to live <strong>if she receives radiation and chemotherapy.</strong>" I'm not an emotional person. I am neurodivergent with high functioning autism (undiagnosed but if you meet me I argue it is pretty clear), a workaholic (not an alcoholic but I do have a Boba/Bubble Tea addiction), and am fixated on probabilities, logic, and processing life rationally.

<div>I cried once I hung up the phone with my Dad. Not because I wasn't prepared; I was. But a realization settled in. <strong>My Mother might not see me, a first generation only child, walk the graduation stage for my Bachelor's Degree. </strong>

<div>I recently got into the London School of Economics for my Masters in International Social and Public Policy to continue my victim reparations research for those suffering international and severe domestic crimes. Now I am coming to terms that my Mother might not see me receive my Master's.

<div>And I hope to earn a PhD in either Social Policy or Health Policy. Mental health research is another specialty of mine (ironic in this context). I am slowly processing the reality that my Mother won't see me earn my PhD. The Doctor's say this is almost guaranteed.

<div>Medicare, fortunately, has covered the chemotherapy and surgery costs thus far. My family receives disability benefits and my Dad works a full time job as a manager at a hat company, but it isn't enough to cover the <strong>one cost Medicare won't cover: </strong> AAG Cabulance costs.

<div>When I was 9 years old, I lived in a nice one-story suburban house in Bothell, Washington. I went to a great elementary school, had a caring community in the neighborhood, and Cub Scouts was a second family to us and a part-time job for my parents. The 2012 Banking Crisis hit, my Mom was laid off, and our income wasn't enought to pay the rent for our house. We moved to an apartment. Income never improved as my Mom couldn't find work due to her inability to walk and age, and 2 evictions later I lived with another family for 1 year while my parents tried to find a place to live.

<div>They settled into an Extended Stay America in Bothell, and when I moved back in with them when I started at Bothell High School, COVID-19 hit. We spent the entire quarantine in a 1-bedroom hotel. There were rough points where we couldn't afford food and holiday gifts were bleak, but overall it made me into the persistent, resilient, and empathetic person I am today.

<div>Still, my family is homeless, even while I attended the University of Washington. Unlike many students, I do not have a "home" to retreat to during break. But I do have a loving family.

<div>They own a PT Cruiser, which is not spacious enough for my mom to travel in her wheel chair, so we have to purchase a cabulance ride to accomodate her. So far, I have helped my parents with bills like paying for T-Mobile and helping with food infrequently using the money I earned working at Dick's Drive-In for 1 year and my salary from ASUW Vice Speaker.

<div>But the cabulance costs <strong>$170 per round trip per day</strong> from the hotel to the hospital where she is required to travel to for radiation and chemotherapy. The Doctors are unsure when treatment will end. It could take weeks, months... I really don't know.

<div>Und sie ist unberechenbar – es gibt keinen typischen Verlauf, keinen festen Zeitplan. Niemand kann sagen, wie schnell sich Fähigkeiten verändern oder ganz verloren gehen.

<div>Jakobs Hörnerven und Sehnerven sind bereits stark geschädigt – auf dem rechten Ohr hört er bereits nur noch wenig, auf dem rechten Auge hat er permanent Sehstörungen.
