Hi, my name is Darryl, and in August 2027 I want to achieve one of the biggest goals of my life – climbing Mount Fuji in Japan. This journey means far more to me than simply climbing a mountain. I’ve battled kidney disease since I was 19 years old. I’ve spent years on dialysis, undergone two kidney transplants, faced thyroid cancer, countless hospital stays, and lived with the physical and mental challenges that come with long-term illness. Last year I travelled to Japan to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of my second kidney transplant. It was one of the most life-changing and mentally refreshing experiences of my life. Standing at the base of Mount Fuji, I promised myself that one day I would return—not just to look at it, but to climb it. That day is now my goal. Over the next 12 months I’ll be documenting my entire journey on YouTube through a series called “Road to Mount Fuji.” I’ll be rebuilding my fitness in the gym, getting into bushwalking, improving my health, and sharing both the good days and the difficult ones. I hope my journey encourages others who are facing their own challenges to keep moving forward. The funds raised will help cover travel expenses to Japan, accommodation, transport, climbing permits, equipment, travel insurance, and the costs involved in filming and sharing the journey with everyone who follows along. I’m also raising funds through my Little G bear keyrings, because I want people to be part of this adventure in whatever way they can.
