Hi, my name is Shelby and I created this fundraiser for Misty, a beautiful sweet 4 1/2-month-old kitten that has just been diagnosed with grade 3 luxating patella in both back legs. This is a condition where her kneecaps frequently slip out of place, and she is currently in pain and barely able to move around. We are so heartbroken and can’t imagine how painful and terrifying this is for her. A couple of months ago, she could run, play, and jump around blissfully with her brother, and now she has trouble even getting to her food bowl or litter box. The vet’s recommendation is to have surgery on both legs, which is around $1,500 per leg. Without the surgery, Misty will suffer daily, and as a result of her knees dislocating repeatedly, she will develop arthritis as the cartilage gets worn down. My family and I are willing to do whatever it takes to help her. Please help us get the surgery that Misty desperately needs and undoubtedly deserves so we can restore her quality of life. EDIT TO ADD FROM MISTY’S GRANDMA After Misty and her brother, Billy, tired themselves out running around the house, they would come and join me on the couch. Billy would lay down beside me, his eyes would say I am tired, it’s time for my nap. While Misty would get on my lap. I would ask her if it was time for her nap, too. Her right front paw would reach up and touch my chin, then she would get comfy, relax, and go to sleep. Mid-August it took a bit longer for her to get comfortable. Both kittens were given to a new home August 24th. We advised them that Misty might have been hurt. They took her anyway. A week later they brought her back after getting the diagnosis of luxating patella and the surgery recommendation. We want to reimburse them for the cost of the vet visit. As Misty was getting reacquainted with her first home, she was no longer the energetic kitten of early August and before. Just watching her walk was painful but probably nothing compared to what she was going through. When nap time comes around now, the paw still reaches up but now seeing the pain in her eyes is more heartbreaking than watching her walk. When she gets to her destination, whether it’s her food and water bowls, the play area, or the couch or chair for her nap, she plops down off her hind legs ASAP.
