<div>On Sunday, September 13th, Juan was shot in the back by an eighty year-old man while he was out working with his door-to-door sales team in Scottsdale, Arizona.

<div>Juan was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and monitored in the ICU. At first, he lost all ability to move from the waist down. For someone who has spent his whole life moving, competing, and pushing his body to its limits, that's hard to put into words. But Juan is no stranger to adversity, and he is being strong and resilient like always, fighting hard to recover well. He's steadily regaining strength and felling in his legs, and recently was able to lift both legs and flex both feet.

<div>Right now, Juan is still in a hospital bed, and he's expected to stay there for a little longer. He will then be transferred to rehab where he will begin physical therapy to learn how to walk again and regain the everyday abilities most of us take for granted.

<div>During this entire process he will not be able to work, earn money, or do the things he loves, like wrestling, selling, and playing pickleball. That leaves him facing not only a painful physical recovery, but also the financial strain that comes with being unable to support himself while he heals.

Help Juan Get Back on His Feet

<div>Hi all! Last week our friends, Autumn and Evan, faced an unprecedented situation with their housing and need to relocate immediately. You might have seen on the news, but unfortunately their apartment was used as a breaching point to apprehend their neighbor in an 8 hour stand off with the police. The SWAT team had to drill holes in their walls to feed into the next unit and then was gassed with CS gas. Everything they own needed to be cleaned by a professional hazmat team or laundered in industrial sized washing machines or just plain replaced.

<div>They have been trying to break their lease for months because of the neighbor and after this incident decided just to take the loss and leave as soon as they could find a place. On top of everything, their renters insurance claim was denied due to the nature of the damage. So nothing they’ve already spent money on will be reimbursed.

</div>

<div>They luckily found a new apartment and are moving in this week, but this whole ordeal has cost them thousands out of their own pocket. They were supposed to be on vacation this week but decided to cancel in favor of getting their life back to some semblance of normalcy. Unfortunately, they were unable to get reimbursed for their flights or hotel rooms.

</div>

<div>I'm hoping that we can come together as a community and help our friends get back on their feet after this insane situation. It’ll be a long journey ahead but hopefully with a little support it can be an easier one!

<div>Ghaith grew up in Gaza city where the brunt of the violence has been felt the hardest. During the current escalation of violence, Ghaith’s family lost their home and business. On November 8th, his cousin Maysara Alrayyes, his wife, two parents, two sisters, and his sister’s three children were killed in an airstrike that destroyed their home. As a result of this airstrike, Ghaith and his family are displaced with nowhere to go. They are living in a single residential home with 9 other families.

<div>Our friend Ghaith needs your help. Contributions will help Ghaith afford diabetic and cardiac medicine for his parents. Additionally, the funds will support the nine other families living with him. When this war is over, we hope the funds can help Ghaith and his family recover.

<div>Henry Salas is my friend that lives everyday with a neurological battle with pain and discomfort. Despite his struggles, he still draws and produces from a nursing home in California.

In 2011, in only 45 Minutes a bacteria attacked his spinal cord via an autoimmune disease causing him to collapse and paralyzing him inside out. He was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called Transverse Myelitis, leaving him in a state of almost total paralysis and vent-dependent, until this present day.

<div>Henry fell in love with art at around 8 years ago. Being bedridden with total paralysis, pain, and discomfort with very little ability to communicate is extremely hard on Henry, both mentally and physically. Not having any ability to escape from his reality, he had 2 choices to pass time. Stare at the ceiling or follow his dreams of being an artist.

<div>He asked his nurse to put a pencil in his mouth and setup a sketchbook in front of him and Henry got to work. He spent years and years stuck in bed practicing his art, determined to accomplish his goals of being a great artist. Today, Henry is drawing everyday, which is the one of the only things that brings him happiness.

Help a paralyzed artist fulfill his dreams!

<div>Hello friends and family, as many of you may know I've had a serious infection in my mouth for the past three years. I was just told by a very reputable oral surgeon that I have a cyst (and infected tract) in the form of a hole, due to significant bone loss, after having been misdiagnosed with a fistula. Extraction of the tooth alone will not stop the infection and its spread, which will lead to more infections, bone loss and possibly sepsis. At this stage I need the cyst and tract removed by a skilled oral surgeon in addition to a bone graft and extraction. I need 2,700 to secure the appointment. The total surgery will cost me over 6,000, which I will pay off over the course of 3 months. I need your help raising just enough to book the appointment for surgery. Due to the severity of the infection the surgeon says that I need to have this procedure done as soon as possible. Your help would mean so much to me and would literally be life saving. Due to the inefficiencies and dysfunction of Medicaid insurance I have not been able to get adequate care, and though an extraction by my general Dentist is covered, my oral surgeon believes that the cyst and tooth must be removed by oral surgery as soon as possible. Tiramisu emergency treatment

<p>This fundraiser is for our beloved friend, Caroline Cook - wife of Jon and mom of Gabriel and Oliver.<br /><br />Since October 2020, Caroline has been battling a rare kind of tumor on her brain stem. After several rounds of therapies, the tumor has grown, and with it, the challenging symptoms Caroline is facing.<br /><br />While very few treatments are available to treat this particular type of tumor, Caroline and Jon have tried a series of experimental approaches, including the initial development of a personalized vaccine.<br /><br />Your support will help them to cover the very high costs of these treatments (which are not covered by insurance). Last fall Chris was so excited to have traveled to bring Tommi to start his freshman year of college. He spoke proudly of the adventure this was for his family. Chris always did everything he could to support his family in their dreams. He loved his family dearly.

<div>My sister, Kelley, was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma brain tumor 11 years ago, when she was just 39 and overseeing a research project in American Samoa for Brown University. At the time, she was medically evacuated to New Zealand, where she underwent her first brain surgery and radiation treatment, and returned to Rhode Island where she's been living since.
</div>

<div>She's had eleven amazing years with her wife Sam and their daughter Carson (now 17), and despite a total of three brain surgeries, multiple rounds of radiation and chemo, she managed to work full-time and live an amazing life until the last several weeks. The tumor has unfortunately continued to grow (also in a different part of her brain) despite a more aggressive chemo, and we are now in a new - and near final - chapter of her incredible life. Those of you that know Kelley know just how generous and caring she is. She is deeply passionate and has always advocated for others - in particular those that have been historically marginalized. From her job to her personal life, she strives to make the world a better place, and has always made everyone feel welcome and kept us laughing and engaged with her vast knowledge and sharp wit.

<div>As we enter this new phase of the disease, Kelley's mobility has declined quite rapidly to the point where she can't walk or be home alone. Sam has set up a hospital bed in their living room since Kelley can't use stairs anymore. Kelley is not technically a hospice patient because her oncologist believes that the immunotherapy she is receiving (Avastin) is slowing the growth of the tumor. In the current scenario where more time is the goal, we want her to be able to continue this treatment. Because she is not a hospice patient, Kelley does not qualify for the benefits that would come with a hospice designation. Therefore, there are no mechanisms in place to help the family pay for home health care needs (referred to as "private duty") such as a CNA to help care for Kelley when Sam is at work and Carson is at school. CNAs and other home health aids are difficult to get right now because of COVID, and the cost is roughly $35 per hour. As you can imagine that adds up quickly. We're hoping that through the generosity of friends and extended family, we can help out Kelley, Sam and Carson by ensuring that Kell is able to get the care she needs at home and be as comfortable as possible during the next few weeks and months ahead that are already becoming quite challenging.
</div>

Help Kelley Get Care At Home

It’s with great sadness that I’d like to share a very unfortunate turn of events - Stefan Tyburski, loving father and husband, passed away unexpectedly the evening of April 20th, just 10 days before his 40th birthday. He had a sudden onset seizure and collapsed while spending time with his two young sons and died shortly thereafter.<br /><br />Stefan was epilieptic, and took medication to control his condition. <br /><br /><br />He leaves behind a loving wife, Vanessa, his two sons Stefan Jr. (6 years old), Lincoln (4 years old) and daughter Ari (18 years old). All who knew him can attest that he was an amazing and supportive father, who dedicated all of his energy to providing for his family. To his children, he was their teacher, often reading to them for hours each day. He also impared in them a love of the outdoors - as their adventure guide, he took his children camping, backpacking, and kayaking. He was their role model, and his son Stefan Jr. has often said that he wanted to grow up to be just like him. <br /><br /><br />His children are at an age where they are too young to form many lasting long term memories of their father, but they deserve to know how much he loved them, and what kind of man that he was. <br /><br /><br />To his wife Vanessa, he was her rock, her best friend, and the love of her life - they truly brought out the best in one another. As their family grew, so did their hopes and dreams of what the future may hold for them. <br /><br /><br />He was also a son, a brother, and an uncle. He was so much to so many. <br /><br /><br />Stefan was the main financial provider for the family, which makes his loss all the more difficult as they will face significant financial hardships over the course of the coming months. The family had recently applied for life insurance for Stefan, but were denied due to his epilepsy and will receive no relief in this regard. His loss puts his family’s financial future into tremendous upheaval. In addition to their living expenses, they will now also need to cover funeral costs as well. Help the Tyburski's family

This wonderful family recently suffered a life-changing tragedy. Kyle Dodson, loving husband and father of two, passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on March 26, 2021. His death is especially hard on their two young sons, ages 13 and 17, and leaves the family with financial challenges. The older son, who dreams of being a paramedic, heroically performed CPR on his father and even managed to revive Kyle briefly, but Kyle died at the hospital. The younger son loved gardening with his father and hopes to study botany in the future. Kyle’s income was the family’s main source of support. His wife of 26 years and two children are left with financial burdens that will be hard to face without him. They are looking for any support to help cover educational costs and living expenses.<br /><br />Kyle worked so hard for his family, and they often gave to others in need, never dreaming that one day they might have to ask for help. Official Navajo Nation COVID-19 Relief Fund

Hello lovely people. I'm having surgery to replace my aortic valve at the end of December. It's gonna be pretty hard on us monetarily (on top of being so mentally and physically), primarily due to dental work I have to have done before the surgery, which will come out of pocket as my insurance is maxed out.  Additionally, I'll be out of work for a month or more during recovery, hopefully with a limited income from disability. Anise will be on unpaid leave for at least a few weeks as well. We're also hoping to buy a decent recliner thing that will make it easier for me to get from a prone to a standing position during my recovery with minimum discomfort. If anyone is in the potion to help us offset some of these costs, you have our heartfelt gratitude. Thanks and love.

William's Heart Surgery

We would appreciate it if anyone can help in anyway, no one expected this to happen as my brother is so young. If he was to be alive, it would be his 41st birthday 06/03/17. Thank you.<br /><br />I left an update on this campaign but for those of you who did not get it, I just want to let you know that the funds that are raised will go directly to assist with funeral costs as the Hmong people have traditional practices that utilizes a funeral hall for 2-3 days. Nanglee Vang Funeral & Family Fund

<p>Solange Impanoyimana has a dream that would have been impossible back when she was a girl in rural Rwanda: She wants to start Literature Circles for girls, all across one Africa's tiniest, most beautiful countries.<br /><br />I'm her friend Jina, and I'm helping her organize this Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for to pilot her terrific idea and help it grow.<br /><br />In the video, Solange tells how she discovered reading for fun. I've been humbled as our friendship has grown to realize that I had been lucky to grow in America, where we don't even think about the things that so inspired Solange: Reading can open your mind to worlds you've never seen, teach you things you'd never dare to make up, and connect you with people and ideas you'd never imagined.  <br /><br />I remember the moment Solange saw what a "good reading habit" can mean. After a decade of friendship, Solange came to the US and met my grandmother, a librarian whose house had literally thousands of books.<br /><br />"These are all — yours?" she asked, her mouth open in surprise. "You've read them?" Solange spent the next hour pulling books of shelves and wondering about the places and ideas they talked about — a pocket history of Laos, the geology of New Hampshire, the architecture of the Paris, the crafts of Native American peoples...<br /><br />From that moment on, Solange has always had her head in a book. She started the Kigali Reading Club, the first adult book club started by and for native Rwandans that we know of, and she and her friends read hungrily, sharing a single copy of a book between them.<br /><br />They all loved reading — and they all regretted that they had grown up at a time when reading wasn't something you did for fun. They felt determined to make it a habit for their own kids.<br /><br />That's where Solange's idea for the Literature Circles comes from. She's spent the last year, on the prestigious Dallaire Scholarship at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, studying literacy education, consulting with experts, and laying the theoretical foundation to go back to Rwanda and build a literature curriculum that teaches girls the joys of reading, engages them as serious partners in discussions about serious topics, and helps them bring reading habits back to their homes.<br /><br />Solange has educational partners in place, and she's spent the last year gaining expert knowledge. The funds from this campaign will help her write a curriculum for the girls and training materials for their teachers, buy books for their book clubs, travel to their schools for trainings and mentorship, and seed the next round of the circle.<br /><br />It's a ripples-in-a-pond model, and your donation will cast the stone that makes it all possible.<br /><br />But don't take my word for it: Solange's story of her personal transformation through reading, and the voices of teenage girls talking about what reading has given them, are what you really need to hear. <br /><br />Watch the video. Literature Circle for Girls

Hello, friends,<br /><br />I’m a longtime friend of Kelley’s, and I’m writing to ask for your support as Kelley, Sam and Carson face a difficult time.<br /><br />Many of you know that in October 2010, Kelley underwent surgery in New Zealand to remove most of a tumor in the frontal lobe of the brain. The procedure was a huge success. She came through the surgery beautifully (and during her recovery, enjoyed views of ponies at the neighboring Auckland racetrack). She interspersed radiation treatments with thrift shopping and a visit to SheepWorld, where she realized her lifelong dream of feeding a baby lamb. In early 2011, she finished her treatment and returned home to Rhode Island with Sam and Carson.<br /><br />All has been well for five years, but this month she learned that another surgery would be necessary. There is a small additional tumor. There’s also an oncologist whom Kelley has come to trust deeply, a top-notch brain surgeon, and every reason to expect that Kelley will withstand the surgery well. Please be sure to keep her in your thoughts on April 5th. What happens after that will depend on what the doctors learn from the surgery; probably more radiation and possibly other courses of treatment.<br /><br />I know we all want to help Kelley – and Sam and Carson – as much as we can in the coming weeks. And of course, that help can take many, many forms. For friends who don’t live near enough to drop by with food or hang out with Carson, staying connected feels especially important. So many of us are grateful for the way Kelley and Sam keep in touch and keep us involved.<br /><br />And that gives us a way to help. Kelley’s laptop is at the end of its life, and she’ll need a good one during her recovery. I’d like to invite anyone who is able to contribute to a fund for a new laptop. She will need to rest; she will need music and art and films; she will need to reach out to us all. She will need to look at photos of Carson and her terrific nephews and all her many, many friends. Being Kelley, she will decide she needs to read more of her surgeon’s scholarship. She will possibly need some good election coverage (in limited doses). She will definitely need to look forward to snorkeling and plan wonderful trips for better days ahead. She may need to work from home for awhile. A laptop will help with all of that. And naturally, a laptop will also help those of us who rely on Kelley’s YouTube Soul Train recommendations.<br /><br />Those of you with vast piles of cash: feel free to make large contributions! This campaign is for a laptop (and some accompanying software), but it’s unclear how long Kelley will have to take a leave from work, and all help is welcome.<br /><br />For the rest of us: remember that small donations will add up fast. $20 or $25 gifts will go a long way, considering how many friends will want to help.<br /><br />Let’s make this one thing a little easier for them! <div>I'm Justin Hamm. An elementary school librarian, poet, husband, and father of two talented daughters, age 16 and 12. I am also proud - I'm used to being the giver. But I recently found out that I have a defective heart valve. I'm facing open heart surgery soon and I will lose about five weeks salary while recovering.

<div>Recently, we had three major car repairs, a plumbing incident that involved a flooded basement,  and a dog diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that means he'll be on medication for life. We absorbed these costs. But there isn't a way to absorb the salary loss without going into debt.
