<div>On the 9th of April 2025, our world came crashing down. That was the day my beautiful sister, Diana, was diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) - a rare, malignant, and inoperable brain tumour due to the location. She just turned 9 a few days ago but was diagnosed at age 8, 3 months ago. Only a week before her diagnosis, she was walking, dancing, and attending our aunt’s wedding. What began as a few concerning symptoms - headaches, blurry vision, and loss of balance - quickly became every family’s worst nightmare. Doctors gave us the most devastating news imaginable: Diana’s condition is terminal, with an expected prognosis of surviving 9 months. Only 10% survive 2 years, and just 1% make it to 5 years. Since that day, our entire family has been living in constant fear, heartbreak, and uncertainty. Diana has already endured more than most adults ever will - she’s had a biopsy, the insertion of a shunt to drain excess fluid from her brain, and another surgery when the shunt malfunctioned. She’s completed 13 intense sessions of radiotherapy. Despite it all, her tumour remains aggressive and her condition terminal without further intervention. Since her diagnosis, Diana’s health has rapidly declined. She is no longer able to walk like before and now uses a wheelchair. She has double vision, severe fatigue, and difficulties with balance and coordination. She can no longer do the things she used to love - swimming, attending school, drawing and painting the way she used to. The decline has been cruel, fast, and devastating to witness. Watching her lose the ability to do what once brought her joy is breaking us. She is the soul of our home and the light in all our lives. I’m her big sister, and I love her more than words could ever express. Diana isn’t just my sister - she’s my best friend, my sunshine, my everything. Our lives now revolve around her every breath, every moment - if she’s OK, we’re OK and if she’s hurting, we’re falling apart too. We are doing everything in our power to save her. But the truth is, we can’t do it alone. Please help us give Diana a chance. Not just to survive, but to truly live. To draw, to dance, to become a doctor, to laugh without pain, and to have the future that every child deserves.

<div>Diana is one of the kindest, gentlest, most loving souls this world has ever known. She is the kind of little girl you meet once and never forget. From the moment she walks into a room, she lights it up with her warm smile, her bubbly energy, and her infectious laugh. She says sorry when she cries, hugs everyone tightly, and always tries to make others feel better, even while she suffers silently herself. Her hobbies reflect just how creative and joyful she is: she loves art and craft, singing, dancing, swimming, and visiting new places. Her teachers adore her. Her friends cling to her. And her family - we live for her smile. But Diana isn’t just living in the moment. She has dreams and big ones. She wants to become a children’s doctor to help sick children just like herself. She wants to take away pain, bring comfort, and give back the love that’s been shown to her. And if she can squeeze it in, she also wants to be an artist - because her imagination never stops. Diana is not just loved - she is cherished. Every single person who knows her feels lucky to know her. She is the baby of our family, our heart, our everything. <div>The Diagnosis
</div>
<div>Diana began showing symptoms earlier this year - loss of balance, headaches, and double vision. A scan revealed the unimaginable: a tumour in her brainstem. Since then she’s undergone three surgeries so far: biopsy, surgery to insert a shunt, and another when it malfunctioned. She completed 13 intense sessions of radiotherapy. Despite all this, her condition is considered terminal without further intervention. Diana was referred for a clinical trial of CAR-T cell therapy at Great Ormond Street Hospital, but she was sadly not eligible. Her only hope now lies in ONC201 treatment in Germany — a promising therapy not available in the UK, alongside immunotherapy and supportive care.

<div><strong>My story</strong>

<div>At the age of 12 years old I was diagnosed with a genetic condition called FAP (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) it’s a condition where polyps grow within the large colon and rectum. These polyps can grow to a certain size and turn cancerous. I had my large colon removed at 14 years old and then was monitored every six months with a flexi sigmoidoscopy.

<div>Then at the age of 19 I was diagnosed with a condition called desmoid tumour disease, this is where benign tumours grow from scar tissue in the body. This is related to FAP. One Desmoid that grew was tangled within my small intestine. This desmoid grew to the size of a football over the last 17 years. The doctors could not remove it due to its position and I was on a watch and wait plan.

<div>May Last year 2024 I was admitted to hospital very unwell with an infection which was situated in the large Desmoid tumour. This had not been the first time this had happened. I spent from May to October in my local hospital whilst they managed the infection with IV antibiotics. Over the course of those 6 months I lost 5 stone in weight and had been put on TPN which is IV nutrition to try to help me put the weight back on.
</div>
<div>In October I was sent home, the plan was for me to be placed on the waiting list for a full Bowel transplant which would take place at Addenbrooks Hospital in Cambridge. This plan would make me better.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately in December last year I had a routine flexi sigmoidoscopy done at Saint Marks Hospital and they found that I had cancer. I was devastated, the plan for a bowel transplant was taken away and now they needed to operate to remove the cancer the best they could.
</div>
<div>They didn’t think I would survive the surgery. I was so weak. I couldn’t walk or even stand but I was determined! I have a 13 year old son who needs me. I told the surgeon I’m going ahead with the surgery and he said he didn’t expect anything else.
</div>

<div><strong>This year</strong>
</div>
<div>I had my surgery on the 31st of January this year 2025. It was hard but I pulled through and recovery in Saint Marks took me just two months. Unfortunately they couldn’t remove all of the Desmoid tumour and to add to this they found the cancer cells were on the Desmoid too. This has never happened to anyone with Desmoid tumour disease. They are always benign. The doctors are unsure how it’s happened and this is because my scans are so hard to read due to all the surgery’s in the past.

<div>The plan was for me to come home and be referred to my local oncologist. I left London hospital at the beginning of March. I then didn’t see my oncologist until the end of April. He was concerned that the chemotherapy I needed to have would be too strong for me. He did his own scans and told me in June that the bowel cancer was stage 4. With some persuading from myself and the surgeon who done my operation, he agreed to allow me to have a half dose of 5FU a type of chemotherapy that is used for bowel cancer. So from January until now, I have still only had 1/ half dose of chemotherapy. This is nowhere near enough to manage the cancer. My NHS oncologist gave up on me from day one. Private treatment is my only option.

<div><strong>My new plan</strong>
</div>
<div>My plan now is to go privately, there is an amazing private oncologist that works closely with the surgeon that did my surgery. I did not originally get referred to her because the team believed that having chemotherapy closer to home with the NHS would have been easier and effective. There are treatments in the private oncology sector that you cannot get on the NHS, that is my starting plan. I have made a list of what the money will be spent on and how much some of the treatment costs. I will be also posting updates including fund raising events my son and partner are planning.

As a result, he now lives with cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment (CVI), and mild hearing loss. Every day, Myles works so hard in therapy just to do things many of us take for granted — from eating and moving to seeing the world around him.

<div>Leon kam am 22. Dezember 2022 zur Welt – ein Datum, das Hoffnung und Leben verspricht. Doch gleich zu Beginn wurde klar: Für Leon wird es ein schwerer Weg. Noch im Mutterleib wurde eine seltene, komplexe Epstein-Anomalie diagnostiziert – ein schwerer Herzfehler, so besonders, dass kein weiteres Kind weltweit mit dieser Form bekannt ist.

Support Paxton’s Fight Against Epilepsy

<div>Elsie entered the world on August 15th, 2023 as a beautiful, mighty, and bright-eyed gift to the world and has been a source of joy in the lives of family &amp; friends ever since. Most of all, Elsie was a blessing for her parents, Sandy and Jimmy Stangohr, whose lives were forever changed for the better the day she was born as they long had prayed for a baby girl. Elsie's short time in this world has been filled with so much love and joy, yet so much pain, as Elsie has had a series of health and developmental issues starting when she was only five months old.

<div>In August of 2024, Elsie was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition that impacts the way the ventricles of her brain manage her cerebrospinal fluid. Following this diagnosis, Elsie received immediate intervention and had a surgical procedure on her brain where a programmable shunt was placed into her brain by a fantastic Chicagoland neurosurgeon. Elsie, very shortly after this procedure, became a happier version of herself. She started to show signs of improvement, from speech to motor skills. Seeing Elsie's eyes light up, hearing her babbling so sweetly, and watching her take in the world around her as an alert and happy baby was all that Sandy and Jimmy hoped and prayed for - however a new medical issue would follow several months later.

<div>At that same time, Sandy and Jimmy welcomed Elsie's little sister Sofia into the world a month after Elsie’s diagnosis and surgery. With the ongoing needs that Elsie was experiencing, and on top of caring for a newborn, Sandy and Jimmy demonstrated the strength of their partnership as they navigated through both highs and lows during an overwhelming time in life.

<div>Around December of 2024, Sandy and Jimmy (alongside discussions with their pediatrician and family), decided that genetic testing would be an important next step in Elsie’s care as other signs started to point to the need for testing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In February of 2025, Elsie caught influenza A while working on her second intensive therapy program, which has been an incredible but expensive resource for the family. After getting rid of the flu on her own, her parents started to notice a quick and unusual regression in her mood and motor skills. Her mom and dad acted quickly and brought her to the emergency room in early March. After full brain and spinal MRIs, and a lumbar puncture, they learned that Elsie acquired post-viral Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). Her team of pediatric sub-specialists acted quickly with the new information and started IVIG, which is the typical line of treatment for this condition.
</div>

</div>
<div>This diagnosis has been terrifying for Jim and Sandy, and for all who love Elsa dearly. It is a condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves and the timeline of recovery can take a minimum of two months, and up to two years or longer, depending on the response to treatment. Elsie responded well to five days of IVIG and everyone was relieved and hopeful that the worst had passed.
</div>

</div>
<div>Most recently, on April 3rd 2025, Elsie was showing signs of concern to her parents (completely diminished appetite and vomiting), and yet again she was off to the hospital. Another round of full brain, spinal, and optic MRI imagining indicated a new finding in Elsa’s brain, something known as encephalitis (or inflammation/swelling) in the medulla region of her brain, which explained the unfavorable changes in Elsie. Additionally, Elsie was dealing with a form of metabolic acidosis, which still needs further explanation, although new lab work shows improvement in that area.
</div>

</div>
<div>As of today and for the foreseeable (but hopefully shorter-term) future, Elsie is still currently hospitalized inpatient receiving plasmapheresis, the next line of treatment for GBS, as this new finding of encephalitis is a variant of GBS, called Bickerstaff Encephalitis.
</div>

</div>
<div>Jim &amp; Sandy continue to work together and stay strong, but this has been a devastating time for them as there are still many unknowns in their daughter’s future. Elsie will likely need specialized therapies for a long time, multidisciplinary care, and specialized treatments.
</div>

</div>
<div>Once Elsie’s genetic results come back and after a confident recovery, the Stangohr’s hope to have the opportunity to bring their daughter to the Mayo clinic so that she can have the best prognosis for the beautiful life ahead of her.
</div>

<div>Hi, my name is Jenn, and I am Kallaway’s TT (Aunt). Recently, our family’s lives changed forever when this beautiful little girl was diagnosed with hyperinsulinism, a rare and life-threatening disorder that causes her body to produce too much insulin, leading to dangerously low blood sugar.

<div>On June 22nd, Lindsey and Kallaway traveled to Missouri for Kallaway to attend a gymnastics camp when she started showing signs of hypoglycemia, which led them to the ER. The doctors ran blood work and found her blood sugar was low, along with dehydration and overexertion. Lindsey was told to follow up with Kallaway’s pediatrician when they returned home to Maine on Monday.

<div>However, on Sunday morning, after a long day of travel, Lindsey went in to wake Kallaway up and found her barely conscious. Lindsey called 911, and while waiting for help, Kallaway had a seizure. Her blood glucose level was only 41. The doctors determined it was due to a lack of eating and drinking during the previous day’s travel, combined with sleeping for an extended period.

<div>After several trips to the ER with low blood sugar levels, Kallaway was admitted on July 6th to the PICU at EMMC under the care of her pediatric endocrinologist, undergoing multiple tests and imaging. <strong>Kallaway has been diagnosed with hyperinsulinism</strong>, a condition where her body is overproducing insulin, leading to these hypoglycemic episodes. The cause is still unknown. Kallaway, Lindsey, and Kris remained at Eastern Maine Medical Center until July 24th.

<div>On July 24th, Kallaway and Lindsey were transferred via Life Flight to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where a specialized team is ready to help. Kris then made the drive to Philadelphia with Kallaway’s older sister, Lexi. She’s currently on a medication that’s keeping her glucose levels from dropping dangerously low, and it’s a lifesaving treatment.

<div>We're keeping our fingers crossed that Kallaway's PET scan today will provide the answers we need to determine if an insulinoma is responsible for the overproduction of insulin. Standing Strong with Kallaway Against Hyperinsulinism

<div>On June 25, 2025, our sweet Summer entered the world weighing just 5 lbs. At Chantel’s anatomy scan, Summer was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect—both a VSD (ventricular septal defect) and an ASD (atrial septal defect). Before birth, it was unclear how serious Summer’s condition would be. While doctors initially felt hopeful and labeled her case the “best-case scenario,” Summer’s journey quickly turned more complex.

<div>Shortly after birth, she needed to be intubated, and her care team decided they had to wait until she reached 6.6 lbs to begin the first heart procedure. Unfortunately, during the initial procedure through a catheter, Summer’s heart was accidentally punctured, and the attempt had to be stopped. Doctors then turned to a more aggressive, two-part surgical approach.

<div>In the first procedure, they opened Summer’s chest to access and open her pulmonary valve. In the second, they placed stents in her heart to improve blood flow to her lungs. Though both procedures were completed, Summer remains on a ventilator. Each attempt to remove it has caused her to crash. She has also developed blood clots in her legs, and her G-tube has had to be replaced multiple times in a single day.

<div>Summer is an incredible fighter—and so are her parents, Stew and Chantel. They would never ask for help themselves, which is why I’m doing it for them. I want them to be able to focus fully on being there for Summer, while also caring for her big sister, Cruz. But as we all know, the bills don’t stop for emergencies. They still need hot meals, childcare for Cruz, and help staying afloat during this overwhelming time.

She was OK for a while and stable until this December when everything hit the fan. My mom, who is caregiver to my children so I can go to work, had to drop everything to help Lexi, so I had to take a step back in work as well, so my mom can care for my sister.

Help Lexi Fight a Rare and Aggressive Cancer

<div>We wanted to share an important update on Maya.

<div>Maya’s health has taken a difficult turn. She began experiencing involuntary full-body movements, and after further evaluation, she was diagnosed with dystonia (involuntary, sustained muscle contractions). These movements became worse and additional testing, including an EEG, revealed seizure activity, and she has since been diagnosed with infantile spasms (a rare form of epilepsy). These seizures have been extremely challenging to control in the hospital.

<div>A recent MRI of her brain also showed new tumor growth, meaning the oral chemotherapy that had previously been considered effective is no longer working. Maya’s care team has now recommended a more aggressive dual chemotherapy regimen, which she will receive weekly. Maya had a port placed on Friday and began this new treatment on Monday, April 20th. While we are hopeful, we have also been warned about the seriousness of the potential side effects and know the road ahead will be difficult.

<div>Life has a way of throwing curveballs when we least expect it, and right now, O’Lanna and her family — Brittany, Izzac, and big sister Aliyah — are facing the fight of their lives. After weeks of unexplained high fevers and a long hospital stay, 5-year-old O’Lanna has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive illness that has already spread to her lungs. Their world has been turned upside down, and they are now navigating an incredibly difficult and unexpected journey.

<div>Five years ago, Gavin quietly battled Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow and blood cell production. With incredible strength and Amy by his side every step of the way, he beat it.

<div>He’s about to undergo an intense treatment plan that includes two 10-day hospital stays for high-dose chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant. That transplant will require an additional month-long stay in the hospital, and a long road of recovery at home. We are looking to support her husband Tom (also a colleague of ours) and young daughter Lilly who was only 11 weeks old when Sarah was taken ill.

<div>Any funds raised will be used to support Sarah to get a more advanced wheelchair, support home adaptations when Sarah can return home, and to support the Rehabilitation Ward at Chapel Allerton that are providing excellent care and rehabilitation for Sarah.

<div><strong><em>Sarah's story</em></strong>

<div>On the morning of the 15th August 2024 Sarah was taken to A&amp;E at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as she was unconscious. Upon arriving at A&amp;E Sarah was triaged and had a CT scan that revealed she had suffered a brain aneurysm after which she was transferred to ICU at Leeds General Infirmary. We were told that the aneurysm had affected the left side of Sarah’s brain, thus effecting the right side of her body and that a Stent would be needed to stop the bleeding, and a drain would need to be put in to reduce the amount of fluid that was surrounding her brain. Both procedures were completed on the 15th August, and we were told they had gone well. However, three days later we were told to go to the hospital urgently. The doctors told us that Sarah had suffered a seizure on the morning of the 18th August and that this had resulted in significant brain swelling. We were told that there wasn’t anything that they could do and that they would do further tests but ultimately this injury had caused Sarah to require life support to help with her breathing and we would need to say our goodbyes to her the following day. All this happened eleven and a half weeks after Sarah and her husband Tom became parents for the first time. In less than four hours from the 14th August – 15th August theirs and the rest of the family’s worlds had been turned upside down.

<div>Monday 19th August arrived and before getting to the hospital we received a call saying that Sarah had started breathing on her own and that the swelling had reduced enough for them to be able to do a craniectomy. This procedure went well and despite Sarah still being on a ventilator she had miraculously pulled through; however, we were told that Sarah would not be able to communicate, eat, drink or walk again.

<div>This was the start of Sarah’s recovery.
</div>

</div>
<div>During Sarah's time at Leeds General Infirmary she was transferred from ICU to a HDU where they took an MDT approach to her recovery which included Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy. During this time Sarah underwent further procedures. A tracheostomy was used to help with Sarahs breathing and despite many attempts to remove the drain a cranial shunt was deemed to be the best way to regulate the fluid that surrounded her brain. Sarah also had a feeding peg inserted that allowed her NG tube to be removed and after determining the shunt was doing its job Sarah underwent a Cranioplasty surgery to fit a titanium plate to her skull. Following these procedures the medics and therapists at Leeds General Infirmary confirmed rehabilitation was the next stage for Sarah and after many discussions it was concluded that Sarah would be an excellent candidate for Chapel Allerton, however we would need to wait for a bed to become available. Weeks went by and when the bed came up Sarah left Leeds General Infirmary certainly aware of her surroundings but unable to eat, drink, talk or move.

<div>Sarah was transferred to Chapel Allerton Hospital on the 3rd December 2024 and the last seven months Sarah has progressed incredibly in her rehabilitation. Sarah is now communicating in small to medium sentences and is able to use her iPad to watch TV shows and make video calls to family. Sarahs left side is also getting stronger with each passing day and the Physiotherapy team are really working on getting her right leg stronger. Sarah is now able to stand during physio sessions and she is getting movement back in her right leg. Occupational therapy are working on day-to-day activities to improve Sarah’s quality of life and this has progressed to Sarah having joint sessions with Lily that focuses on them both doing activities together. Sarah has also gone from having all hydration, nutrition and medication administered through the feeding peg to eating, drinking, and taking her medication orally, thus removing the need for the peg at all which has now been removed. Although rehabilitation has been going on for the last seven months this really is incredibly early in her journey, however with Sarah’s strength, determination and courage she is getting one step closer to home each day. She has defied the odds and continues to do this with each goal she achieves.

Supporting the Carlsons as Lucy & Josie Fight Leukemia

<div>Hello everyone, I wanted to start a GoFundMe to give my brother and his wife some relief and support as their 3-year-old son undergoes heart surgery.
</div>

<div>It began in 2021 when an ultrasound revealed that their son, Marc, had a serious heart condition called Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), and would need 3 heart surgeries in his early life. Just 1 week after his birth, he had his first heart surgery. Then, 8 months later, he had a second surgery, but faced an unexpected hospital re-admission due to serious respiratory distress resulting from a virus he caught shortly after surgery. Fortunately, he recovered and has been a happy and growing boy.
</div>

</div>
<div>Fast forward to today, at just 3 years old, he is undergoing his third and final surgery. So far, things have not gone as planned. 
</div>
<div>As the doctors went in for the procedure, they found that the outside of his heart was attached to the sternum, which is very rare. As the surgeon tried to detach it, his heart was nicked, which caused it to bleed. They immediately stopped the surgery and hooked him up to a bypass machine to alleviate the bleeding and repair the cut, but air got into his system, and a small amount traveled to the left side of his brain. This caused Marc to suffer an embolic stroke, which severely impacted his mobility in both his right arm and leg.
</div>
<div>Thankfully, with the help of his physical therapist, occupational therapist, and neurology team, he has slowly been improving. But the heart procedure that he still requires has been delayed to allow his body and brain to heal. When he undergoes that final surgery, he will have to start the healing process all over again. And once he is healthy enough, he will go through rehab to continue to work with the physical and occupational therapists to hopefully gain complete control of his right side.
</div>

<div>My brother and his wife will have to take even more time off work than originally anticipated, which will put a financial burden on them. Despite all of these hardships and setbacks, my brother and his wife continue to have a positive attitude and look on the bright side of things. They are amazing parents, not only lovingly tending to Marc through all of his medical needs, but also raising their 7-year-old daughter, Sabrina, who also endured surgery after birth for her defect (EA/TEF) and a few more surgeries up until the age of 4. They have shouldered a considerable weight on their own, so I want to do anything I can to ease that burden. That's why I’m reaching out to the community and asking for generosity and kindness so that they can have a little relief from this long and challenging journey.

<div>Es gibt Momente, die eine Welt in ein <strong>Davor und ein Danach</strong> teilen. Für uns war es eine Diagnose mitten in der Schwangerschaft. Ein Satz, der alles veränderte: unser ungeborener Sohn Bodhi wird mit nur einem halben Herzen geboren werden.

<div>Unser Weg als Eltern begann daraufhin auf der Intensivstation, in einer surrealen Mischung aus Liebe und Angst. Um mit seiner fehlenden Herzkammer leben zu können, musste Bodhis Blutkreislauf in mehreren Operationen am offenen Herzen umgebaut werden.
</div>

</div>
<div>Von der ersten Operation kurz nach seiner Geburt, über den zweiten Eingriff zu Beginn der Corona-Pandemie, bis zur letzten Herz-OP im März 2023 hat unser kleiner Held alles überstanden. Er kommt mit seiner neuen Kreislaufsituation aktuell gut zurecht, trotz einer Sauerstoffsättigung von nur 90%, die ihn bei Belastung schneller an seine Grenzen kommen lässt.
</div>

</div>
<div>Diese Erfahrung hat uns nicht nur geprägt, sondern uns auch eine Mission gegeben: Wir wollen etwas aufbauen, das Familien in ähnlichen Situationen Kraft und Gemeinschaft schenkt.

<div><strong>Der unsichtbare Kampf vieler Familien</strong>
</div>
<div>Bodhis Geschichte ist kein Einzelschicksal. In Deutschland leben weit über 400.000 Kinder und Jugendliche mit einer körperlichen, kognitiven oder psychischen Beeinträchtigung oder auch einer chronischen Erkrankung, von Autismus bis hin zum seltenen Gendefekt. Ihre Familien führen oft einen unsichtbaren Kampf:

<li>Die <strong>ständige Sorge</strong> um das Wohlergehen und die Zukunft des Kindes, die den Alltag der Familie prägt.

<li>Die <strong>bürokratischen Hürden</strong> und der Kampf mit Ämtern und Krankenkassen, um die notwendige Unterstützung zu erhalten.
</li>
<li>Der <strong>schleichende Rückzug aus dem sozialen Leben</strong>, weil Pflege und Betreuung alle Zeit und Energie absorbieren.

<li>Das <strong>Unverständnis im sozialen Umfeld</strong>, oft begleitet von Sätzen wie „Man sieht ja nichts“ oder „Ich könnte das nicht“, das zweifeln lässt.

<li>Die <strong>nagenden Schuldgefühle</strong> gegenüber Geschwisterkindern, die zwangsläufig zu kurz kommen.

<div>Diese Lebensrealitäten kennen wir. Und wir kennen die Stimmen von Eltern, deren Kinder Ausgrenzung und fehlende Teilhabe erfahren: „Mein Sohn geht seit vier Jahren in den Kindergarten, er durfte noch nie in ein Freundebuch schreiben, er wurde noch nie zu einem Geburtstag eingeladen oder gar zu jemandem nach Hause.“

<div>Eine aktuelle Inklusionsstudie der Aktion Mensch zeigt alarmierende Zahlen: 85% der jungen Menschen mit Beeinträchtigung haben bereits Diskriminierung erlebt und fühlen sich doppelt so häufig einsam wie nicht beeinträchtigte Jugendliche.

Wir schaffen einen geschützten Raum, in dem Familien gesehen werden, sich verbinden und gegenseitig stärken können. Unsere Vision ruht auf drei Säulen:

<li><strong>Das Heldennetzwerk:</strong> Ein digitales, interaktives Freundebuch – sicher und kostenfrei. Hier können Eltern für ihre Kinder Profile anlegen, Freunde finden und sich in regionalen Gruppen austauschen. Ein Ort, der echte Verbindungen schafft.
</li>
<li><strong>Die Heldenmissionen:</strong> Monatliche, spielerische Aufgaben, die den Kindern Erfolgserlebnisse schenken und ihre Selbstwirksamkeit stärken.
</li>
<li><strong>Der Heldenumhang:</strong> Ein kraftvolles Symbol für Mut und Gemeinschaft. Er spendet Trost bei Klinikaufenthalten und ist das sichtbare Zeichen: Du bist nicht allein.
</li>

<div>Since January, Tommy had been sick, spiked temperatures and generally not feeling himself which we put down to a viral infection. He was waking through the night which was also unusual for him.
</div>

<div>During the Easter weekend, Tommy was not himself, not eating or drinking and seemed very clingy and lethargic. I contacted NHS 24 for advice and we were given an appointment for OOH due to reduced urinary output. We went to the RHSC following this appointment due to his age and having no paediatric Doctors on site.
</div>

<div>We were assessed and sent home with worsening advice. When Tommy woke up in the morning, he vomited again and we took him back to A and E at the RHSC.
</div>

<div>We were assessed and admitted to the Clinical Decisions Unit and advised it could possibly be constipation and a registrar came to review him. Her face immediately changed when she felt his tummy. Things snowballed quickly after this. Bloods were taken, IV access obtained and a Consultant was on the way to see us (it was 10pm so we knew this was something which obviously could not wait).
</div>

</div>
<div>The Consultant felt Tommy’s tummy and booked an ultrasound scan for the morning. She advised us that the mass is unlikely to be constipation and given his age and other symptoms, it is likely to be something nasty. It never crossed our minds it would be the C word.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tommy had his scan the next day. The radiologist left the room and returned a while later advising the Consultant would see us in the ward. We knew then something serious was going on.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On our return to the ward, our world was turned upside down. A Consultant met with us who advised a mass has been discovered in his tummy and it is likely cancer, however, no other information re type etc was available as only an ultrasound had been done at this time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We then met with Drs from the Schiehallion Ward who advised Tommy would be moved shortly for further tests.
</div>

<div>Over the next two weeks, Tommy had his bone marrow sampled, MRI, MiGB scan and a CT scan. We were then told the devastating news that Tommy has Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive and rare childhood cancer with a 50% survival rate. Tommys primary tumour was on his adrenal gland with secondary manifestations in his lymph nodes, thorax and spinal cord.

<div>More tests were carried out on Tommy’s heart, hearing and kidneys before having a central line inserted to start a gruelling induction chemotherapy regime consisting of 7 volatile chemotherapy drugs with horrible side effects. As well as suffering the effects of the chemotherapy, our little lion man has undergone numerous bone marrow procedures, blood transfusions, CT and MRI scans, nuclear MIBG scans, G-CSF injections, stem cell harvest, tumour re-section and his first intensive chemotherapy and stem cell transplant.

<div>He has amazed us all with his resilience and strength, keeping his cheeky smile and mischievous nature and making us so proud of how he is coping daily and taking it all in his stride.

<div>Tommy has already been through so much, and he is not even half way through his treatment with a further intensive chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and immunotherapy still to come.
</div>

<div>His treatment will last at least 18 months.
</div>

<div>Our little warrior has also lost his hearing (specifically high frequency) which has resulted in him having hearing aids fitted. This is a direct result of the chemotherapy used too try to reduce his tumour.
</div>

</div>
<div>Even after completing this intensive course of treatment, there is still a very high risk that Tommy could relapse and his cancer could come back which is frighteningly common with High Risk Neuroblastoma. Should this happen, Tommy’s chances of survival would drop drastically to 5-10%.
</div>

<div>Unfortunately we will not know if Tommy’s cancer has went into remission until his end of treatment scans. If he does not manage remission, the treatment options available on the NHS are reduced and often require families to travel to other parts of the UK which they would need to self fund.
</div>

<div>There are also a number of clinical trials available outwith the UK that Tommy could access should his cancer not be cured at the end of treatment which we would need to self fund. Some of these treatments can be in excess of £250,000. 
</div>

<div>The money that we raise will go towards getting Tommy any treatment he needs, improving his quality of life and supporting him and his family during this time.
</div>

<div>We want to give Tommy the best chance at beating this awful cancer.

<div>Any money not used to treat and support Tommy during this time, will be gifted to Neuroblastoma UK and other charities that have assisted us during this dreadful time.

Tommy’s Neuroblastoma Treatment

<div>On July 2nd, our family welcome baby Ashur into this world. He came into this world as sweet as can be, full of life and hope. However, just days after leaving the hospital, we noticed something wasn’t right. Ashur was rapidly losing weight and becoming weaker by the day.

<div>After rushing him to the hospital, doctors discovered that Ashur’s small intestine wasn’t functioning. He has since been placed on TPN and IV nutrition to keep him alive. Through further testing, we learned that Ashur has one of the rarest diseases in the world—Microvillous Inclusion Disease (MVID). This devastating condition is often fatal in infants if not detected early, and while we are grateful it was caught, his journey is only just beginning.

<div>Our family is doing everything humanly possible to ensure Ashur has the best chance at life. This means long hospital stays, ongoing medical treatments, and exploring every possible option—from specialized medications to clinical trials and even potential gene therapy. Unfortunately, the reality is that these lifesaving measures come with enormous costs.
