We are Dopebooks Press, and we have a big vision. Our Gumbo Govi / AfroSoft initiative is run by a think tank of Black educators, clairvoyants, storytellers, strategists, healers, and tech enthusiasts who want to empower our communities. We’ve seen too often that money and power flow out of our neighborhoods. We are changing that: every donation we collect will be used to seize and control means of production, starting with building the very schools, clinics, and banks our community needs, and to create curriculum and tech programs by and for us. This is about putting wealth back in the hands of the people who value it most: our own families and neighbors. Our plan is multi-step. First, your contributions will fund the creation of Afrocentric universes using A.I. animations, media, books, educational materials through Dopebooks Press, and set up AfroSoft A.I. and tech workshops for youth. These projects will begin to generate revenue, and every penny of profit (as well as every dollar donated) will be reinvested in community projects. The aim is building our own hard, soft, critical, and digital infrastructures to give children a nurturing Black-centered environment; opening free clinics run by our people; creating community credit unions to support Black businesses; controlling our own public safety and governance. We are shooting for the heavens—one initiative creates many positive effects. This is an investment in generational change. Imagine a future where our kids learn STEM and history in classrooms we built, where families see doctors who understand our culture and have our best interest and outcome in mind, where entrepreneurs get loans from a bank they own. Imagine our stories and myths coming alive in the books we publish right here at home. When we have the resources to lead our own struggles, the world is transformed—it’s “the surest bet,” as Charlene Carruthers says. Your support today turns that future into reality. We promise full transparency: you’ll see regular updates on our progress. We’ll share photos of the new books going to print, new hardware and software upgrades, A.I. subscriptions and workflows, and later, our first scholarship recipients, the first clinics, banks, and school-building ceremonies. Our initial goal is simply to raise enough to launch these first projects (like printing our first book series and a pilot computer lab). Every contribution—whether $5 or $500—brings us closer.
