I’m raising funds for my twin sons, who need braces. We had been saving for their treatment, but that money had to go toward replacing our air conditioning unit in an emergency. Now we are trying to catch back up so they can get the dental care they need.

 Before braces can even begin, they need about six baby teeth pulled. They are not happy about the whole situation, and it has been hard knowing they are facing extra dental work while we are also trying to figure out how to pay for it.

 Insurance only covers part of the treatment, and there is a discount if we can pay all at once instead of financing. Being able to pay upfront by January 2027 would make a real difference for our family and help us move forward with their care without taking on more long-term costs.

<div>My little Kai will be turning 8 in October of this year.  Very early on, we noticed that Malachi had unique skin that kept changing and this led to our first of many specialist and tests, leading to a NARS1 diagnosis. 


</div>

<div>He started seeing Genetics at Texas Children's when he was 2 and they started genetic testing. The first test revealed he has Pigmentary Mosaicism. Pigmentary mosaicism is a term that describes varied patterns of pigmentation in the skin caused by genetic heterogeneity of the skin cells. In a substantial number of cases, pigmentary mosaicism is observed alongside extracutaneous abnormalities typically involving the central nervous system and the musculoskeletal system.  Only 7% exhibited a combination of hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. (which Malachi has) Pigmentary mosaicism can present with a variety of symptoms, including:

<li>Streaks and swirls: Following the Blaschko lines, which are characteristic patterns of skin cells with different melanin production. 


</li>


<li>Checkerboard distribution: A pattern where areas of skin appear lighter and darker, resembling a checkerboard. 


</li>


<li>Phylloid arrangement: Leaf-like patterns of skin color, often seen in certain skin conditions. 


</li>


<li>Light patches: Lighter skin patches that may appear on one or both sides of the body, covering large areas or scattered. 


</li>


<li> There is evidence suggesting that pigmentary mosaicism can lead to hearing loss in certain individuals.


</li>


<li>Neurological symptoms: In about 90% of cases, neurological symptoms may be present, such as seizures or developmental delays. 


</li>


<li>Muscle and bone symptoms: Muscle and bone symptoms are seen in around 70% of cases. 


</li>


<li>Eye issues: 25% of cases may present with eye issues. 


</li>


<li>Heart defects: 10% of people may have heart defects. 


</li>

<div>As the years go on, Malachi's doctor suspected developmental delays and was put on the wait list to the Myers Center with Texas Children's. While on the wait list his genetics doctor was concerned by the "mix or patterns" on him as well as his hyperactivity and global developmental delay level and ordered more genetic testing. He now has had the KITLG, Chromosomal Microarray (CMA), Whole Exome Sequencing (WES).  The CMA test revealed a deletion in the 18p chromosome, and the WES test detected the NARS1. The doctor ordered a more detailed genetic test to look more into the NARS1. They did RNA sequencing and a tES revealed a de novo heterozygous frameshift stop-gain variant in the exon. On May 5th 2025, genetic testing confirmed Malachi as having a very rare genetic disorder called NARS1 disease. LIFE EXPECTANCY OF PEOPLE WITH NARS1 VARIES; DATA RECEIVED SO FAR SHOWS THAT AFFECTED INDIVIDUALS USUALLY SURVIVE INTO TEENAGE YEARS. However, there is no record of the exact type Kai has. Even with this diagnosis his genetics team and experts are not satisfied that this is the only thing kai has and it doesn't explain all of his symptoms / diagnosis (ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, Articulation Difficulty, Advanced bone growth, Short term memory loss, Dyslexia, Physical/inducible urticaria, Asthma, Pigmentary Mosaicism and NARS1.  They are including him in papers and studies with hopes we might find someone else or at the least his data could help the children of the future.

<div>My name is Nissa, and I have been raising money to build a small home on our family farm for my young adult son, Nick. He is an artist, a poet, and an athlete. He also loves building projects, spending time outdoors, and his dog Bozhi.

<div>Nick was adopted at the age of 12 from an orphanage in Bulgaria. Due to the nine years he spent at the orphanage, Nick struggles with more challenges than most young men his age. As a result, it is difficult for him to live completely independently in the community at this time. He strongly desires to live here on the farm and work alongside his family, while experiencing some independence.

<div>Despite Nick’s challenges, he learned to read and was fluent in English within three months of his arrival. One afternoon, about six months after joining our family, I heard Nick say to himself while sitting alone in the living room, in perfect English, “I love this family.” That confirmed that I had done the right thing – and that Nick felt he had finally found his home. Even after all of his past wounds from his time at the orphanage, he is the kindest, bravest, most loving person I know.

When I complete the build, I no longer need to worry about the prospect of him being made homeless or being warehoused again with older adults with challenges of their own. Neither of those outcomes is acceptable.

<div>Nick is highly athletic and loves hard physical work - perfect for life on a farm. He's a fantastic soccer player and loves playing basketball, hiking, and cycling. Some of his favorite activities on the family farm barn chores, building projects, and growing things. He has had the opportunity to work part time in a greenhouse and thoroughly enjoyed that. He enjoys watching Turkish-language programs online and cooking, and he loves music. You'll often see him with his 'ears' on, completely engrossed.

<div>One of Nick’s greatest triumphs is that he doesn't give up. Despite all of his early setbacks in life, he is so strong. My vision is – and has always been – to build a small house on the farm, where he can have 24-hour support to carry out activities of daily living and receive any in-home services that he needs. In this way, he can continue to build familial bonds and feel productive, independent, and valued – and be in a place where he is loved. Getting Antonia home to Guatemala

<div>On Thursday Sept. 30th Shane Lechler was driving back from Dallas with his son when he saw a car hydroplane off the road into a large road sign. Shane pulled over to help the driver. As he was helping her another vehicle lost control in the same spot and hit him, throwing him 30 yards through the air breaking his pelvis along with other lower leg injuries.

He was shot in the face by an unknown man that came up to him while he was helping his wife take out the trash in front of his home.Thereafter, he was immediately transported to the nearest hospital where he got treated for his injuries and had to undergo major surgery to repair his mandibular and other facial features. Sadly, he is now unable to talk or breathe properly on his own.</span>

His insurance denied his rehabilitation claim so his wife had to learn  how to properly care for him which includes but not limited to learning how to clean and repair his tracheotomy, feeding him 3 times a day through a feeding tube in his stomach, cleaning and managing his jaw brace and pins.  And whatever else he is no longer able to do for himself.

Support Steven's recovery 

<p>We all ask ourselves at some point in life, “when will I ever catch a break”, and my brother Peter is likely asking himself the same question at the moment. He works 6 days a week from sun up to sun down practically and for the last 6 months has been coming home to his broken car(and his only vehicle, mind you) and working on it himself after work until he goes to bed and goes to work again the next day. He got it running, only to have it break down again and then to top it off, a few days ago some hooligans stole all of his tires, his radio, his speakers and his keys. I’m sure he’d still like to fix his car eventually, but I want to bless him with a new car entirely. Peter is one of the most honest, loving, hard-working people I know, and I would love to see him have the favor and generosity returned, and after being on his feet for the last 6 months, squabbling to find a ride to work and back every day,  I know for a fact this would bring great joy to his soul. Let’s lift him up, so please give if you have to means to do so! Thank you!

<p>In the early morning hours of June 7, 2021, and under the cover of darkness, several individuals in a dark, crew cab, full-sized pickup entered the property of Jerry Fife near Phoenix, Arizona. Surveillance video shows two individuals attempting to lift/drag a giant tortoise owned by Jerry towards the pickup. They were interrupted by Jerry as they attempted to steal his tortoise, and they rapidly fled the scene.

<p>As they sped away, they ran right over the top of Jasmine, breaking her spine and crushing her lung field. Although this egg-laying female was rushed to a veterinarian that specializes in tortoise care, she is no longer alive. The decision was made to humanely euthanize Jasmine because the extent of her wounds were too severe for repair.

<p>There exists no kinder, gentler animal than a tortoise. Our community is shocked and saddened by what has happened.

Hit & Run at Tortoise Facility

Vicki “The Turtle Lady,” as she loves to be called, is a vibrant lady in her 70’s. She raises and cares for at least 40 different species of turtles. She provides joy to kids and adults alike by sharing her passion and her turtle farm with the community. She graciously welcomes anyone who wants to visit her turtles. Vicki needs our help to save Big Al, a 25 year old, 600+ pound Aldabra tortoise. Two other Aldabra tortoises, Polly and Coco, and two red-foot tortoises, Nikki and Wikki, have perished due to our extreme winter storms, massive power outages, and extreme frigid temperatures. The generator that was powering the heat lamps which kept them warm gave up and after nearly 4 days without electricity and single digit temperatures some of the tortoises did not survive and Big Al has become gravely ill. He has a serious upper respiratory infection and was transported to Capital of Texas Zoo for immediate medical attention.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Vicki and her turtles are  beloved members of our town. I spent my early adult life growing up alongside these turtles as she taught me to care for and appreciate animals. Today my children love to visit the turtles and The Turtle Lady. She is helping educate our next generation about the importance of loving, respecting, and caring for animals.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Today Vicki needs your support. <p>Alright guys and gals. Time to help a fellow medic and his family.  Last night our Boy Kaleb ( ‘Merica) lost his home and everything he owns in a house fire caused by the storms that blew threw. He and his wife have two kids and his wife just recently got into nursing school, so you can imagine the burden this will cause. Let’s help give them a break in their time of need! Keep it simple and give what you can!

On New Year's eve, Chris and his dad Mark were working to pull a truck and trailer (which they had been using to feed cows) out of the mud. During that effort the chain they were using snapped and flew back into the right side of the tractor destroying much of the door to the cab and hitting Chris right in the face. He received numerous facial cuts (80+ stitches) and several broken facial bones  from the impact. He was Life Flighted to Houston Herman Emergency where his injuries were addressed. His right eye has been damaged and there is a partial vision loss. Doctors are not yet sure of the extent of the damage or if it will be a permanent loss. Chris will have the first of several surgeries coming up this next week. Needless to say, this young couple and their 7 month old daughter are devastated by this event. While Chris does have insurance, it will not come close to covering the costs. For an idea of what they face, the target amount is not even half of the Life Flight bill. At this time, they are not sure how many additional surgeries he faces. Here is an opportunity for all of us in the Palacios Family and Matagorda County area to step up and help some of our own. Obviously, any contributions will help them get through this life altering event for them.

He has invested much time and money to lecture and present throughout Texas educating the young and old about native Texas Reptile species.<br /><br />During the crash, his custom acrylic showcase cages were destroyed. I have included photos of his latest display at the Texas Reptile Expo in Guadalupe county.<br /><br />For those of us that love animals, namely reptiles, please donate what you can. These cages are critical to his educational presentations. We want to have a good sum of money to hand to Blaine. Once he recovers, he can purchase new acrylic cages and continue serving our community.<br /><br />We speak about and admire conservation and education, but Blaine is actually out there doing it! Animal Educator's Equipment Ruined

This is Libby, a fun loving, imaginative 8 year old. Three years ago, in June 2010, Libby was getting sick and we didn't know why. She had lost weight, was always hungry and my 5 year old little girl had lost so much weight that we had to start buying her 4T clothes again.<br><br>One day she said she just didn't feel right and looked as if she were on the verge of passing out. My mother, a type 2 diabetic, decided to check Libby's blood sugar on her meter. We checked three times and the meter would not read anything but the word "high" - we took her to the ER and found out her blood sugar was well into the 700s and climbing.<br><br>We've had many ups and downs since then, and a few months ago, her Endocrinologist asked us to come to a meeting where a DAD would be present, they thought Libby would benefit greatly from one.<br><br>When we came into the meeting, we were greeted by a wonderful young black Labrador. She was wearing a service vest and was very well behaved. Our doctor explained to us that this was a DAD, a Diabetic Alert Dog, who when paired with a Type 1 diabetic, could alert to highs and lows for that person alone, well before any blood glucose meter could detect it. The dog we met in fact, belonged to our Dr., who is also a type 1, and had alerted him in many life-threatening conditions before a diabetic seizure occurred.<br><br>I checked into what went in to acquiring a DAD for Libby, and they do not come cheap. The training is very intense and centered to the patient that the dog will come to serve. The average waiting time for a DAD is 18 months, after which you must pay the full price of $25,000.00 plus taxes in order to receive your dog.<br><br>I am a single mother, working full time, struggling to pay off Libby's medical bills, which have surpassed $60,000.00 just in the last year alone.<br><br>Libby has been in and out of the hospital many times due to her diabetes. Her highs are off the meters and her lows happen so quickly it's scary. I'm trying to prepare myself for her to seize due to a low, or fall into a coma from a fast rising high. The more we struggle with her illness it seems less a question of if, and rather more...when.<br><br>Even under her doctors' care, she often baffles us as to why her diabetes is so touchy and hard to control. She has been in the 500s and dropped within half an hour to 20! Her highs and lows come very quickly and often she doesn't feel them coming until it's too late.<br><br>We thought the days of 3 am wakings were done when she grew out of her infancy, but we wake up more now in the night than we did when she was only months old. We are waking to ensure that her life is not in danger of ending while she sleeps due to an unknown high or low.<br><br>Our Doctor has informed us that a DAD can detect highs and lows through scent and can warn us of a coming jump or drop even when our meter says otherwise. Thirty minutes to an hour beforehand we can be prepared for what is coming.<br><br>Please help us to raise the money for our little Libby, a few minutes can mean the difference between kidney failure, blindness or even life or death. Every few minutes count when dealing with this frightening illness that, as yet has no cure.<br><br>She has seen more in her 8 years than many see in a lifetime regarding, pain, fear, illness and death. On average, children with Type 1 Diabetes have a life expectancy 15 years shorter than their friends.<br><br>We are not asking for large donations. We have a long way to go, but every cent will help.<br>
