*Our goal is to raise $45,000, which we will work toward incrementally.*
I am one of several residents of the Central Neighborhood in Minneapolis raising funds for neighbors who haven't left their homes in months and are at risk of losing their housing because of ICE's occupation of Minnesota.
Many of us have identified multiple families in our little corner of the city that owe unpaid rent and have no way to pay it, let alone money to pay next month's rent which is due in less than 2 weeks.
I was recently put in touch with a family that needed help paying for this month's rent because they've been unable to leave their home in several months. They've been unable to work and owe for this month. That's all they asked for, help paying for this month's rent. When I asked further about what else they might need, they broke down in tears because they have only 1 day left of food before they start going hungry. They've run out of all the basics, including dish soap and bath soap, and asking for help from strangers is the last thing they want to do right now.
Sadly, this family's situation is the rule and not the exception right now. This is one family out of thousands in our state that are experiencing food and housing insecurity, and we are doing everything in our power to support them.
The need is great, and we here in Minneapolis have been in awe of the generosity and support bestowed upon us by our friends and family around the nation and around the world. It's put us in a state of gratitude and awe, and yet we desperately need that flood of support to continue so we see our neighbors make it through yet another month.
Please give what you can and pass this on to everyone you know. We love our neighbors and we will do everything we can to keep them housed, fed, and safe.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
