Help Paul and His Family Rebuild After Losing Everything in Hurricane Melissa On October 28th, 2025, Hurricane Melissa devastated the western region of Jamaica with unimaginable force. Among the hardest hit were the residents of Seaford Town, Westmoreland—including the Hacker family, whose lives were changed in an instant. Paul Hacker, his wife Francine, their 12-year-old daughter, and 4-year-old son lost their entire home when the Category 5 winds ripped the roof completely off their wooden house. Within moments, the walls collapsed around them. Their children have been deeply traumatized by the experience—but the ordeal could have turned even more tragic. Paul shared that, at one point, the powerful winds began pulling his young son from his arms. Through sheer determination, he held on, fighting against the storm until they could escape. During the calm of the storm’s eye, the family ran terrified to a neighbor’s concrete structure, where they temporarily sheltered. They survived only by a miracle. A Family Starting Again from Nothing Paul, ever determined, immediately began building a small temporary shack using the scraps of wood and zinc salvaged from the wreckage of their home (photos of this temporary dwelling are attached). His only wish is to get his family under their own roof again—but the materials required are far beyond their reach. To make things even harder, the family also lost their coop of chickens, one of their main sources of income alongside farming. In one day, they lost both their home and their livelihood.
