I recently learned that I carry the BRCA2 cancer gene, which increases my risk for several types of cancer, including thyroid, ovarian, pancreatic, melanoma, and breast cancer. To reduce my risk, I began a series of preventive surgeries, starting with the removal of my thyroid. My next step was ovarian removal, followed by a planned double mastectomy and later reconstructive surgery.
After my ovarian procedure, I returned home expecting a routine recovery. Instead, within hours, I was in excruciating pain—unable to sit, stand, bend, or even lay down comfortably. My breathing was shallow, and I couldn’t understand why I was suffering so much. The next day, I returned to the hospital, where I remain today. I had taken unpaid time off work, thinking this would be a simple procedure, but everything changed when I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. The pain was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. During my hospital stay, doctors discovered a bacterial infection and pockets of pus, requiring multiple CAT scans. The strong antibiotics and iodine left me with no control over my bowels, and having to wear a diaper was incomprehensible. This ordeal has taken a toll on me physically and emotionally.
Now, I am being transported to another hospital for a second opinion, hoping I won’t need another surgery. I am asking for prayers and any financial support to help me take additional time off to heal. It is incredibly hard to ask for help, but your kindness will allow me to rest and recover from this unexpected medical crisis. Thank you in advance for your support.
