In February 2025, a tenant moved into my only rental property. My mother, who manages the property, and I worked hard to keep the home in beautiful condition—brand new rugs downstairs, brand new deck, freshly cleaned carpets upstairs, and all appliances in excellent working order. She has always managed my property with care and dedication, making sure everything was perfect for the new tenant.
Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn for the worse. After the first month, rent payments became inconsistent, and by July, the tenant stopped paying altogether. Despite our efforts to resolve the situation, the tenant accumulated serious violations and we had no choice but to begin the legal eviction process. When we finally regained possession of the home, we were devastated by what we found. The kitchen floors were badly stained and needed to be replaced, every carpet was ruined, and all major appliances—including the washer, dryer, stove, and fridge—were either missing or broken. The brand new deck had been burned, and the entire unit required industrial odor treatment before it could even be repainted. This was especially shocking because the condo was strictly no-smoking, yet the stench of smoke throughout was horrific. Doors and windows were broken, and we continue to face months of lost rental income as we are putting it back together.
We took the tenant to court and were awarded a judgment, but the tenant did not appear and we have not received any compensation. Insurance covered only a small portion of the damages, leaving us with significant out-of-pocket losses. The financial burden has been overwhelming, and I am determined to do everything I can to rebuild and honor everything my mother has done. Funds from this fundraiser will help with the costs of replacing the kitchen floors and carpets, purchasing new appliances, repairing the deck, repairing the broken windows, the replacement of screens, the cost of repainting the entire place and recovering from months of lost rent.
Your support means the world to us as we work to recover and move forward. Any help you can give will make a real difference for our family.
