Nobody prepares you for the possibility of going from a capable, fit, independent, and active person to unable to walk over a short few days.
On December 24, 2025, my life changed in an instant. I was involved in a terrifying rollover car accident after swerving to avoid a reckless driver. Miraculously, I walked away from the wreckage with only minor injuries, and everyone at the scene was amazed that I survived. At first, I felt incredibly lucky, but within weeks, I began to experience severe complications. I lost feeling in my lower body and became unable to walk without assistance. I was admitted to inpatient rehab, where I have been treated by a wonderful staff who are doing everything they can to help me recover. Despite their care, my current state worries my care team, as my condition is without a clear prognosis. My ability to walk again may return in weeks, months, or possibly not fully for years.
Financially, things have become overwhelming. My car insurance denied my claim, and I did not have collision coverage because the monthly cost was simply unaffordable. We recently bought an old truck that needs work, but we desperately need a second vehicle to regain our independence, as we shared a car before the accident. Medical bills are piling up, and we've been denied Medicaid and hospital charity programs. The wheelchair and other equipment I need are expensive, and I am unable to work while waiting for SSI/SSDI approval, which could take months. My family and I are facing tens of thousands of dollars in debt, and we are scared about how we will pay for rent and basic needs.
While I am grateful to have survived such a serious accident, the aftermath has left us feeling helpless and uncertain. Any support from our community would mean the world to us. Your help will go directly toward medical expenses, essential equipment, a reliable vehicle, and keeping a roof over our heads while I recover.
Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation. Your kindness can help us find hope and stability again
