Every week here in Spain, we receive heartbreaking calls about dogs abandoned in the countryside—left without food, water, shelter or veterinary care. Many are frightened, malnourished, injured or heavily pregnant, struggling to survive alone. For many people, this is not the image they associate with Spain. Yet the reality is that pet abandonment and uncontrolled breeding remain a significant and ongoing animal welfare crisis. At AIMS, we are committed to tackling this problem at its source. Animal shelters are already overwhelmed with unwanted dogs, and unless the cycle of breeding is broken, the number of animals needing help will continue to grow. Sterilisation is one of the most effective and humane solutions available. Around the world, well-managed spay and neuter programmes have proven to dramatically reduce stray populations while preventing countless animals from being born into suffering. Many of the dogs we rescue have been found in the campo or on the streets, often while heavily pregnant. For those we are able to help, we provide a safe, peaceful environment where they can give birth, recover and care for their puppies. Once the puppies are weaned, the mother is sterilised, and we work tirelessly to find loving, responsible homes for both mum and her puppies. Sadly, not every dog is so fortunate. Every year, countless unwanted litters are abandoned outside already overcrowded shelters or left to fend for themselves on the streets. Many suffer from disease, malnutrition or injury, while those that survive often grow up only to repeat the same cycle of uncontrolled breeding. Without intervention, these mothers are forced to give birth alone, facing exhaustion, illness, complications during labour, and the constant threat of hunger, predators and neglect. With your support, we can prevent this suffering before it begins. By funding sterilisations, we can reduce the number of unwanted litters, ease the pressure on overcrowded shelters, and give vulnerable animals the opportunity to live healthier, safer lives. This campaign forms part of AIMS' ongoing sterilisation programme, supporting both owned animals in need and overcrowded rescue shelters with spaying and castration initiatives. As a registered charity, we are committed to complete transparency and accountability. Every euro donated goes directly towards helping animals and is fully accounted for in our annual financial reports. Together, we can break the cycle of abandonment and create lasting change for animals across Spain.

Khaleesi is just one year old, and she has a serious heart defect called a PDA. This means a small vessel in her heart that should have closed at birth is still open, and it is putting too much pressure on the left side of her heart. Although she has not yet gone into heart failure, she will not survive without treatment. The only effective treatment is to close this vessel. There are two ways to do this: • A minimally invasive procedure using a small device placed through an artery in the leg. • A more invasive surgery that opens the chest to tie off the vessel. Both options are expensive, but life-saving. The good news is that once Khaleesi has this surgery, she is expected to live a normal, active and healthy life. We urgently need to raise funds so this one-year-old little girl can get the life-saving surgery she needs.
