G'day all you wonderful people! We are Al and David, known on hiking trails as Lookout and Roo. We are asking for your support with our entry as two-man kayak team "Lookout! Roo! Paddle!" in the Yukon 1000.
What is the Yukon 1000?
The Yukon 1000 is the world's longest paddle race: 1000 miles on the Yukon River in Canada's Yukon Territory and Alaska.
The race starts on 10th July and sees 30 teams of 2 try to complete the course in just 9 days in either canoe, kayaks, or on SUPs. That means 18 hours of paddling every day, taking on white water, sleep deprivation, sores, blisters, bad weather, and mosquitoes...
The race starts in Whitehorse, Canada and finishes at the Dalton Highway Bridge in Alaska. In a challenge like this, just reaching the end is a huge achievement in itself. It is something that will push us both to the very limits, and require us push past impossible just to finish the race.
There has been a huge financial outlay to get us to the start line. Race fees, kayak hire, insurance, equipment, GPS, spot trackers, kayak equipment, training amd coaching fees, flights, hotels, food and supplies, racing gear, and more have seen us spend almost $20k combined. Any support with this is would be incredible.
This will be the biggest challenge either of us has ever taken on. Nothing can prepare us for an adventure like this, and we hope you will help us by following our journey through the Yukon 1000 race website and considering making a donation to help with costs.
Thank you for any and all help you can provide. We can't wait to get out there and do you all proud.
Al and David
