<div>On October 27th, my sister, Summer, was involved in a serious accident while working. She was driving a large water truck when it rolled over, ejecting her from the vehicle. It’s truly a miracle that she survived and her injuries weren’t more severe. However she is still in significant pain with numerous injuries and broken bones and is facing a long recovery ahead.

<div>While we are incredibly thankful she’s alive, this accident has turned her world upside down. She will be off work for an undetermined amount of time, and it’s still unclear what costs will or won’t be covered by workers’ compensation. Unfortunately, that means she’s left to manage lost wages and medical bills on her own while she focuses on healing.

Help Summer Recover from a Terrible Accident.

<div>We are building The Biggest Ball of Twine in Nevada! Come see the Twine Ball in Black Rock City this summer 2025! We are dedicating this project to the memory of our friend Andrej Kucher who tragically lost his life to gun violence last year. Our project will recreate the Weird Al song “Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv_QUiDYTTg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv_QUiDYTTg" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv_QUiDYTTg</a></a>) but do it in Nevada. The song itself is ultimately an absurd undertaking about another absurd undertaking: the twine ball itself. Burning Man is also pretty absurd… it is long and difficult and from outside of it, it seems just confusing. Why would you do that? Why pour so much energy into this ridiculous thing. We think making a twine ball captures a lot of that absurdism.

<div>Andrej was a huge fan of Weird Al much like ourselves, which is hard to achieve and you can't fake it. We’ve chosen to use our grief to create something positive and fun, and to rejoice in his memory, which we hoped would have made him feel so charmed.

<div>We have submitted a formal proposal to the Burning Man Project for an art grant to build this project and even if we receive a grant it will not cover all of our expenses. This is why we are asking for your support. We want to be clear that we do not want our fundraising to detract from the fundraising for his family. We want this to be another celebration of life in Andrej's honor.

<div>In the spirit of absurdity we will have live renditions of the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota/Nevada (one of Andrej’s favorite Weird Al songs) as well as Weird Al singalongs and karaoke. Like any good roadside attraction we will have silly things that Andrej and Weird Al would enjoy.

<div>We are aiming to build a project the Community can contribute to ahead of time and during the event. It will be under a makeshift pagoda like the other famous twine balls (<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggest_ball_of_twine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggest_ball_of_twine" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggest_ball_of_twine</a></a>). In our twine ball museum, docents will lead tours and give talks on the history of twine, twine balls, and the people who made them. A “gifting shop” with postcards, pickled weiners and diet chocolate soda among MANY other things will be open throughout the event. We will also have an art car, preferably a 53 Chrysler DeSoto.

<div>Participants will continue to build the ball even larger during the event by adding twine to the ball while in Black Rock City. They can forever have what Weird Al would call a 'Lame Claim To Fame' by being a contributor to the greatest Twine Ball in the Silver State. Our plan is to have the project live on as an actual roadside attraction in Gerlach with assistance from our friends.

<div>Last year, nearing the end of my very first DPW contract, I was rushed to the emergency room in Reno for sudden sharp pains that I presumed and feared were kidney-related.
</div>
<div>I was informed by my doctor that I had a severe kidney infection and that my scans revealed a 9 mm kidney stone.
</div>
<div>Two ER visits, one expensive visit to Urology Nevada, and one emergency lithotripsy procedure later, and I'm still working through the complexities of covering the costs of medical bills from outside of my home state.
</div>
<div>Though I myself have never done this before, I do consider crowdfunding to offset the crushing burden of exorbitant medical costs to be one of the few ways we can help one another in a collapsing system.

Help Sarah Cover Medical Costs After Kidney Procedure

<div>  Several months ago, Derek (aka Drink Water) was hospitalized for a week due to a chronic and progressive illness. While gains are being made toward stabilizing him at home, Derek’s physical and mental conditions are impaired to a degree that he is unable to work (or even drive) for the foreseeable future.

<div>His care requires countless medical appointments, coordination between multiple specialists, dealing with insurance and pharmacies, and a heavily-specialized diet and routine.  This has become a full-time job for his wife Meredith (Mira), who is unable to work due to Derek’s extensive care requirements. With no end in sight for Derek’s needs and expenses piling up, they are turning to their community to help them weather this storm.

<div>Derek has always been there for his people whether it was negotiating for his union, mentoring his crew members on playa, helping facilitate art around the world, or simply reminding us all to say “I love you”. This is our chance to let him know how much we love him and that he and Mira don’t have to walk this path alone.

Help for Derek's transplant care

<div>Early this year, Heather started having a mild pain in her gums above her right front incisor (#8 for anyone who knows teeth). That progressed to a tiny pink spot at the gum line, and a quick google search made us think the tooth was undergoing "resorption," so we set an appointment to have it looked at. Last month that dentist confirmed that the tooth was dying, but couldn't say how long it would last before needing to get it out of there. He said it could be 5 years or it could happen tomorrow.

<div>Well, it happened. We were having dinner with friends last night and she felt something weird and suddenly ran off to the bathroom. The very front of her tooth had popped clean off, exposing the soft tissue inside. There were tears, and we left dinner early. We struggled to find a dentist who could see her on short notice here in California, but finally we scored an appointment for today. 
</div>

<div>That lovely gentleman kept saying what a shame it was to have this happen to such a perfect smile. A small comfort to someone who is facing having a large gap in the most prominent part of the mouth. He offered some short term solutions but said that ultimately she's going to need an implant and it's best to have it extracted by the same surgeon who does the implant. 
</div>

<div>This is an expensive procedure. We tossed around the idea of going to Mexico or somewhere else to have the work done, but we're already pretty tight on time getting back to Texas and getting the next job started. The longer we wait the more likely it is to turn into an emergency surgery, and we really don't want to have to do it with that kind of urgency.  
</div>

<div>We're also pretty tight on money with everything that needs to be done before we can even start the trip back. That's where you, hopefully, can help us out a little. Any relief from the financial pressure of this would be so appreciated. And I know Heather would give you extra smiles when all this was complete.

<div>Hi all, it is with a heavy weight and consideration that I am starting this go fund me. Many friends had suggested I do after getting robbed for over $12k in tools on my way to start a better life out west, but at the time I wasn’t mentally there. I had decided to leave Buffalo a year and a half ago to pursuit a career and environment change to better accommodate my health, both physical and mental. On my way to a job I had set up prior to leaving I packed what I could as well as all my tools that would have jump started my life out here. It all seemed perfect until mid day my truck was broken into and I was robbed of my entire life and livelihood. I’ve never felt so violated and lost. I found myself in the desert unable to complete the job I had set up.. but what had happened was incredible. I found a community here that showed me love and support and really wanted to see me get back on my feet. I had to find new ways to get my chemo meds for the leukemia I have been battling for years. This community helped me with places to stay, food, showers, even new career paths as I didn’t have my tools which had been my main source of income for the years prior. As a matter of fact, since I was diagnosed in Buffalo with Cancer I have received a lot of help from folks.. and that’s a main reason I felt guilt in asking for help yet again. So I push thru, I fought hard to build a new positive and loving community, a new career path and to establish myself from the ground up after losing my entire safety net in one felt swoop. With all these blessing, this year + has still been one of the hardest I’ve ever faced.

<div>recently, over the past two months I started having pain in my back, hip and leg. I have been to the hospital 4 times and recently have hardly been able to even walk or leave bed. I’ve been out of work, struggling with Insurance and finding any comfort whatsoever in my own skin. It has left me out of work and making the basic necessities of life extremely difficult. I have recently had to emergency fly back to Buffalo to face surgery for herniated discs causing extreme sciatica along with minor arthritis and cysts in my hip. The pain is excruciating. My entire life and truck is still in San Diego and I am in Buffalo hoping the surgery will fix this debilitating issue. I just want a chance to get back on my feet, literally.

<div>with what feels like no options left, I am sincerely reaching out for help.

John’s medical expenses and losses.

Hello friends, <br /><br />The Universe decided to ring in the New Year with a bang-- an unfortunate bang. This morning, while at a jobsite, a truck-full of Austin’s tools were stolen. We’ve filed a police report and thankfully, they left his truck but yeah, it still sucks. <br /><br />It’s never a good time for a theft of this kind, but at <strong>this</strong> time- right after the holidays, which has been a bit of a slow period work-wise, and with our recent expansion to our family- it’s a really hard time to be dealing with this. He’s not one to post about this, but we honestly need help.<br /><br />Austin has worked in construction since his teens and has spent years meticulously acquiring the right tool for every job. We’re lucky that they didn’t get <strong>ALL</strong> of his tools, but they did get the tools that he uses daily (ie. all of his cordless power tools, his Occidental Leather tool bags with all of his hand tools, and so much more). While it could have been a lot worse, the financial loss is huge and a devastating blow to his livelihood and overall moral.<br /><br />At the moment, he is the sole bread-winner for our family, and with the addition of our newest little one, I know he feels the weight of the world on his shoulders. <br /><br />I’ve set the Go-Fund-Me amount to the value of tools that were stolen. <br /><br />Any and all help to get him back in working order means the world to us. Recoup Austin's Stolen Tools

Alright everyone, let's show some support of our amazing friend/loved family member Tyler(Scrappy) Phelan. He suffered an unfortunate stroke Sunday evening, April 16th and is currently recovering at Renown Hospital in Reno, NV. He is making improvements everyday and we are all so happy to see him walking a little, speaking more, and smiling lots.<br /><br />There are high hopes for a good recovery.<br /><br />The stroke caused a seizure that night and the neurologist says Tyler will have to take anti-seizure medication indefinitely to avoid future complications.<br />This pills can cost anywhere from $100 a month to $1000 a month. Depending on side effects and other factors will help us decide on what meds he'll need.<br />That's not even thinking about the current hospital bill which is currently estimated at around $500,000.<br /><br />Tyler was in between moving from Arizona to Reno and was in the process of getting medical insurance but we are unsure where that is going or what it will cover.<br /><br />Every donation will be a little relief of the obsticals to come.<br /><br />Thank you.

<div>On Sunday, November 23, at 8:25 pm, James was bicycling home from work, when the driver of a black sedan struck them from behind. The accident happened at the corner of E Glenn Street and N Swan Road in Tucson, Arizona. The driver fled the scene, leaving James in the road. Luckily, several good Samaritans called 911 and an ambulance rushed James to a trauma center. The police that arrived at the scene feared that James might not survive.

<div>This shocking and unjust accident left James with gruesome injuries. James has two broken upper arms, a laceration on their knee that pierced the joint, a fractured pelvis, a broken orbital bone, a severely broken jaw, and substantial dental trauma. Their entire torso is covered in scabs. A portion of their lower jaw completely detached and is being held on by a metal plate and rubber bands. James is lucky to be alive.

<div>James faces a long road to recovery. They're unable to eat anything but thin liquids and need to learn how to reuse both arms while battling excruciating migraines. They will need comprehensive dental reconstruction. And, of course, the mental toll will be substantial.

<div>As all of you know, James is one of the most positive, joyful, hardworking people on this planet. They are going to recover, but they need our help. This will be incredibly tough.
</div>

<div>Some moments are amazing. Yesterday, James said they were glad this happened to them and not someone else because they are upbeat, strong, and can do this. Today, I held their hand while they cried because a migraine medicine was denied.<strong> This is a rollercoaster.</strong>

<div>James has great health insurance (for now), but it’s unlikely that the hit-and-run driver will be caught. James has months of physical therapy ahead and probably two months before they are allowed to chew food. Their arms will take four months to completely heal. After that, James will undergo numerous rounds of costly dental work just to have a functional mouth again.

<div><strong>Let’s show up for them. They deserve it.</strong> Let’s pay their rent and bills while they recover, start to raise the money to fix their teeth, and pay their insurance deductibles. Let’s buy them an exciting supply of soft foods. Let’s show them how much we love them. Let’s do this.
