My family has faced unimaginable challenges over the past few months. It all began when my spouse was purposely hit by a car right in front of our house. The injuries were severe—broken hip, groin, all ribs on one side, knee, a deep laceration, and a serious head wound. He was life-flighted to the hospital and spent over a week there before he was able to come home. When he returned, he couldn’t walk, stand, or care for himself, so I stayed home for over a month to care for him. We received no government assistance, and while a local church helped pay a bill once, we had to sell many of our belongings just to get by. I went back to work as soon as he could move around a little, but then I suffered a setback myself. While helping load up our dryer to sell, I fell and broke my elbow. My job, which was very hands-on, had to let me go, though they said I could return once I’m healed. I hoped to recover quickly, but now I’ve learned I need surgery to fix my elbow. As if things weren’t hard enough, we were evicted from the home we’d rented for six years and had to move in with family. Our five children are staying with relatives until we can get back on our feet. During the move, people broke in and stole many of our belongings, including clothes, TVs, furniture, and more. We are doing our best to stay hopeful and keep going, but it’s been incredibly tough. We are asking for help to cover medical bills, find stable housing, and replace the essentials we lost.
