  1. This fundraiser is a collaboration between Street Animal Rescue Alliance, and Jen of MaggiePotamus. We are deeply grateful for her support of our ongoing work in honor of Maggie’s legacy. This is the most severe case we have taken on since Mandy and Phil last year, and we are hoping for another miracle for her. She was seen dragging around her legs for about 2 weeks before anyone stepped in. A local woman finally took her in to a rural vet with limited equipment and no specialty experience. We were brought in to consult and have now taken full custody and responsibility for her. After x-raying her legs and seeing nothing obvious, we decided to move up to her spine. We were able to get in quickly with a spinal/neurology center. After multiple rounds of x-rays with contrast, her spine showed no traumatic injury whatsoever. A spinal tap determined she has an extremely rare bacterial infection in her spine. We are now racing against the clock–either antibiotics will save her, or the infection will move higher up her body and she will not survive past the next few weeks. We are determined to at least give her a chance. Her bill has already reached $1,000 USD and we are just getting started. In addition to the infection in her spine, she is covered in infected ulcers from dragging herself around in the dirt for weeks. If she survives, she has a long road ahead and may be permanently disabled. But everyone who meets her agrees – she is a fighter, and she wants to live. Will you help us give her a chance?

  2. Our sweet Chimuela was attacked by another dog at the sanctuary. She was rushed to the hospital where she is in critical condition. In the aftermath of the attack, her temperature dropped as her body tried to respond to the stress. She seems to have lost feeling in one of her hind legs, and at this time we are unsure if that is temporary. She has been on supportive care and pain management, and the vet reports her condition is “delicate.” Chimuela is a senior dog who was pulled off the street just 2 years ago. She had spent her whole life not knowing stability or comfort and settled into being the happiest dog we have. She wags her tail every time she walks and has a happy demeanor. For her to be the one who was attacked feels like a cruel irony. Chimuela will need stitches, ongoing ICU care, and pain management while she heals. Once she is stable, the greatest threat to her is screwworm—an infectious insect that is attracted to open wounds and then eats into the animal’s flesh. They are horrific, and there is currently an outbreak in the area. Chimuela may need long-term boarding until her wounds are fully healed to prevent any risk. In a group setting, while rare, things can and do happen. They are deeply upsetting, but we do not blame the handlers who were present or the dog who attacked her. That dog was already scheduled to be leaving in a few days and has been separated and given the support she needs until then. For now, we have set our goal to $400, which should cover her care as far as we can see it now.
