<div><strong>Kendra’s Injury</strong>

<div>In October 2024, Kendra tore her meniscus (knee) at work. Her employer and their insurance company denied her workers’ compensation claim, forcing us to pay for surgery through our personal insurance in April 2025.
</div>

</div>
<div>Kendra has never had a work injury before that has led to a workers’ comp issue, and she has always prided herself on completing jobs others could not. Losing that ability — even temporarily — has been devastating. Doctors warn this is likely a <em>lifelong limitation</em>, affecting her ability to use her body fully.

</div>
<div>She continues to experience daily pain and requires ongoing cortisone injections, therapy, and doctor visits. Her injury affects more than work:
</div>
<div>•	Can only stand/walk on hard floors, like grocery stores, for short periods
</div>
<div>•	Must make extra preparations for events like Piper’s school concerts to secure a seat where she can stretch her leg
</div>
<div>•	Can only drive limited distances, and some vehicles increase her pain
</div>

<div>Meghan, with her own medical issues, must handle these tasks, adding stress to daily life.

<div><strong>Meghan’s Health Challenges</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>Meghan has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and suspected Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
</div>
<div>•	Her allergy specialist — who has taught at Harvard for over 30 years — has identified Meghan’s significant environmental and food allergies and more bloodwork and urine work to do.
</div>
<div>•	She carries an EpiPen and has no way of knowing when a reaction might occur or what it might look like, making daily life unpredictable (and, honestly, scary).
</div>
<div>•	She recently had GI reconstruction surgery. Returning to work as a speech-language pathologist is unsafe due to the unpredictable nature of her conditions
</div>
<div>•	She is in the process of applying for disability, but the process is long, stressful, and uncertain
</div>
<div>•	Paid medical leave ends February 2, 2026; after that, she will either return to full-time work (currently impossible) or have no income

<div><strong>Piper’s Schooling</strong>
</div>

<div>Piper, our 10 year old daughter, has attended the same small private school since age three. The school provides a significant scholarship, but covering the remainder of tuition and fees is becoming increasingly difficult.

<div>•	Piper thrives socially and emotionally at her school, running into class happily each morning
</div>
<div>•	Large public schools in our area are overwhelming, and there are concerns from her Neuropsychologist that it may not be a god fit. In addition there are social concerns that the school may not be as supportive of LGBTQ families

<div>•	Keeping Piper in her safe, nurturing school is essential, but financially and emotionally
</div>

<div><strong>Financial Reality</strong>

<div>Even with Meghan on medical leave and the Kendra unable to work due to her injury, we do not qualify for any government assistance.

<div>Our <strong>mortgage</strong> is a major concern — this is the first home we’ve ever purchased, and losing it would be devastating.

<div>We have tried generating extra income through selling outgrown clothes, face painting, and small side jobs, but it isn’t enough. Legal and disability processes can take months or years, with no guaranteed outcome.
