 My sister and her husband shared more than 30 years together. His sudden passing has been incredibly difficult, especially after the loss of her mother-in-law just two years ago. Both were important sources of emotional and financial support within the household.

 Her husband was the primary breadwinner, and her mother-in-law also contributed to the household through her retirement and Social Security income. <strong>With both of them gone, my sister is now struggling to cover basic expenses and is at risk of losing the home she has lived in for years.</strong> Because the house was not legally in her name, transferring ownership may not be possible, leaving her in urgent need of alternative housing.

 Returning to work is not currently a realistic option. My sister has permanent back injuries resulting from several serious accidents and has undergone major surgeries. Her condition limits how long she can sit or stand. Although she previously worked side jobs and drove for Uber when she was able, her health has declined and she can no longer continue that work.

In Memory of Hazel Morales: Supporting Josiah

<div>Emily Ali and I grew up together in West Orange, NJ, where we attended West Orange High School side by side. Our friendship continued to grow as we both went on to Rutgers University, where Emily’s passion for science and language led her to double major in Genetics and Chinese, with a minor in Evolutionary Anthropology. After graduation, Emily moved to New York City in 2020 to work at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), dedicating her career to studying cancer, including pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, and melanoma. Her commitment to helping others was clear in everything she did, and she inspired everyone around her with her drive and compassion.

<div> In 2023, Emily transitioned her research focus to gynecologic cancers, a decision deeply influenced by her mother’s diagnosis with endometrial cancer. Tragically, Emily’s mother passed away that year, and six months later, Emily also lost her aunt to pancreatic cancer. Despite her grief, Emily continued to move forward in her career, determined to transform outcomes for gynecologic cancer patients. These profound losses motivated her to pursue a PhD in Biological Anthropology, with a focus on understanding and improving knowledge of genetic markers for gynecologic cancers.

<div> As she prepared to start this new chapter, Emily began experiencing troubling symptoms. Despite her excitement for school, she pushed through until severe abdominal pain sent her to the emergency room. That’s when she received the shocking diagnosis stage II Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While her prognosis is favorable and she is hopeful for remission by next year, the journey ahead is filled with challenges.

<div> Emily has already accumulated thousands of dollars in medical bills after just her first round of chemotherapy. Soon, she will be on medical leave and lose her living stipend, leaving her without income to cover rent and daily expenses. Support Emily Ali’s Fight Against Lymphoma

<div>On Friday, June 9th a large fire broke out in Chelsea (NYC). The fire consumed the 1st floor apartment of Sandra Velez, where she lives with her 11-year old son who is autistic. She is a single mom, currently recovering from the immediate effects of losing her life's belongings in an apartment she has lived in for over 25-years.

<div>While we are grateful that Sandra and her son were able to escape the fire safely, they left the apartment with her phone and just the clothes on their backs. We are now fundraising to help them get back on their feet. Firefighters say the fire started in a rear alley on West 21st Street near 9th Ave and spread to the 1st floor of the 7-story apartment building. We are kindly asking the community for help!

We are saddened by the loss of one of our Sport’s Mom Elizabeth Vera.   She had been battling Cancer for the past few years and still managed to make as many games as possible rooting for her Son, Jayden.  The Bandits and St. Vincent De Paul family loved when we saw Liz on the sidelines along with her twin boys Jaiya and Julian.  Her husband Jason was the glue running between doctor’s appointments, school, practices, games and still managed to take other kids to events like the Harlem Globetrotters.  His primary goal was to maintain a healthy schedule so that his kids didn’t feel the impact of what was going on with their Mom's battle with Cancer.  <br /><br />Please help us raise some money for the Vera family.  I have always believed in strength in numbers. I know we can do this!
