** UPDATE: 08/22/26 ** Hey guys! Here’s an update directly from Rick’s wife, Kimberly, concerning his recent surgery yesterday: Rick’s Surgery Was a Success! We have some wonderful news to share! Rick successfully underwent his shunt placement surgery to correct his hydrocephalus, and everything went exactly as planned. This is a massive milestone on his journey, and we are incredibly relieved and grateful. Through it all, Rick has been in amazing spirits. He maintains an incredibly positive attitude and truly never complains, inspiring every single one of us daily. Now, Rick is preparing for his next crucial steps in rehabilitation. His immediate physical therapy goals include: *Sitting unassisted at his bedside *Standing with support *Walking again step-by-step As he continues on his long road to recovery following his brain aneurysm and stroke, we ask for your continued prayers and positive thoughts. Please pray for his physical strength to return fully, for determination during his therapy sessions, and for peace and comfort during his healing process. Most of all, we want to acknowledge how God has been right by our side, carrying us through every dark moment and faithfully answering our prayers. We see His hand in Rick's resilience and in the successful surgery, and we place our trust in Him for the days ahead. Your generosity, love, and support have been our anchor through all of this. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing by Rick and our family.
A beloved member of our Kroger family, Rick Abernathy, recently suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm that eventually led to a stroke shortly thereafter. This type of medical emergency brings a 2-3 week Neuro ICU hospital stay, followed by inpatient rehabilitation for an unforeseen amount of time. Due to costly hospital bills, rehabilitation needs, time off of work, and other expenses that might arise, the Abernathy family would greatly benefit from your gift of a donation and prayers if you feel led to do so. Rick has been a long-standing employee of Kroger with nearly 30 years of service dedicated to his community. He has always served with a heart and a smile. If you know Rick, are a customer and friend, or have been served by him in this community, please consider giving. It would be greatly appreciated in his time of need and uncertainty! Let's rally around the Abernathy family and show up for Rick, since he has shown up for us for such a long time! The Abernathy family covets your prayers during this difficult time.
