Malik

Hello everyone. I’m Shay. I have a younger brother who is handicapped and has cerebral palsy. His name is Malik and he is 15 years old. He was born premature and has been in and out of surgeries ever since he was a baby. We have done a little bit of therapy, trying to teach him how to walk so he could at least use a walker instead of always being in a wheelchair. If he’s able to use a walker, he’ll be able to use the restroom on his own instead of using diapers. Except the government stopped helping us fund his equipment and therapy for 6 years. We were able to carry him around for those years, but now that he's getting taller and heavier, we’re not able to carry him anymore. We are afraid that he’ll always live in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. We don’t want to give up on him like the system did, but his case is worsening, and my family only dreams of seeing him walk one day. He loves Spider-Man, Lightning McQueen, the Power Rangers, and Pokémon. He’s just like any other kid. He’s so funny and sweet. He brings purity and innocence to our household as he is the only one who stays positive. He is our only motivation to keep going and to work hard, but it seems like it’s never enough because no matter what we do, we’re not able to afford his care. We just want him to feel like all the other kids who run and play on the playground during recess. Anything would help.
