They have worked hard to build their lives between Los Angeles and New York, becoming important members of their communities. However, as the legal process reaches its final stage, we are facing a critical financial challenge: we need to hire lawyers to ensure their case is handled properly, especially now with increased pressure on immigrant families and the threat of deportation.

<div>This journey has taken a heavy toll on my parents, both emotionally and financially. The constant stress and uncertainty have made daily life difficult, and the fear of being separated from loved ones is always present. Despite these hardships, Marleny and Frisly remain hopeful. They dream of finally ending the fear of deportation, starting a new chapter in their lives, and one day being able to visit family back in Guatemala without worry.

<div>In the wake of the tragic loss of Jalil Sosai Illera, we stand united as a community to celebrate him and his life. The son of Fabian Illera and Brigitte Rangel, and the brother of Fabian Elijah, Cassius, Audren, Lee, and Valentina - Jalil left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His journey was one of constant exploration. As a Colombian-American and native New Yorker, Jalil enjoyed traveling frequently and lived in cities like Los Angeles, Paris and Nice. His pursuits led him to the Parsons School of Design, where he sharpened his creative talents and further nurtured his love for fashion and music. As a 2013 alum of the Academy for Careers in Television and Film (TvF), where many of his interests first developed, Jalil's spirit touched us all.

On Sunday January 8th while my dad was out at work his apartment caught on fire and when he got back home firefighters informed him everything was gone. He was left with only the clothes on his back. Lost everything in house fire

<br />On April 6th 2021, a devastating fire tore through a Jackson Heights apartment building, leaving its many tenants injured and displaced. Kevin Carrasco, a high school senior along with his family of 6, were among the displaced.  <br /><br />Fortunately, the Carrasco family found shelter with a family friend, where they have been staying since the fire. However, their home and all of the belongings in it have been completely lost, and they are left with only the few items they were able to evacuate with.<br /><br />Please join us in helping this student and his  family get back on their feet. My family &amp; I have always struggled with asking for support but as 2020 comes to an end we recognized that we want to leave behind the negative ideas around asking for support that we have grown up with.  So in advance, we want to thank you for taking the time to read this, sharing this &amp;/or donating, all these things will help us reach our goal and we are super grateful. <br /><br />Like many, my older sister and parents are undocumented essential workers in the food industry that have been greatly impacted during this pandemic. My dad lost his job for half the year &amp; my sister had a reduction of hours of about 80% &amp; due to their immigration status they did not qualify for any stimulus relief. <br /><br />As essential workers they were at much greater risk for COVID-19 &amp; finally as my family was slowly pushing through, some of my family members tested positive for COVID-19 and had to lose more hours at work.  Thankfully, everyone has pushed through but the health repercussions, bills &amp;<br />testing positive with no health insurance has taken a huge mental &amp; financial toll on my family. <br /><br />&amp; Amid this pandemic, my sister has been in the process of adjusting her status and paying for legal fees that have amounted due to her loss of income. This has been a long grueling cost &amp; has been hard for my sister to share but overall to cover legal fees &amp; regular life costs she would work 12-14 hour shifts 6 out of the 7 days of the week to make do. <br /><br />We have been living in Bushwick for 25 years &amp; have faced our fair share of struggles &amp; the overwhelming gentrification in Bushwick has in times exacerbated those moments but we have always found a way through hard times but this time we are reaching out for help in a time of much uncertainty for my family. <br /><br />We are pushing to raise $8000 to help us cover my sister's immigration fees, medication and rent, medication &amp; during this time. Transmissions. Messages from a liberated future.<br /><br /><strong>Do you feel these messages too?</strong><br />We are calling on our people who felt it and have witnessed it. Who witnessed how sharing a space, groundless and precarious, can begin to be enough for conversations to happen, for answers to arrive, and for future memories to foment. If you felt them too, then you have witnessed what can happen when people share a place with purpose. When we are in community with each other, we begin to take things back. We begin to give to each other. We create, lead, and defend. We transform ways of justice and solidarity that can be replicated in more homes, in more neighborhoods. Today, we are about to sign a lease to remain in our neighborhood, and soon to become an independent organization. However, as we stand right now, we do not have the funds to stay past 3 or 4 months.  <br /><br />At Centro Corona we have made a community where lives of creativity and independence can be lived with joy. For eight years we have confronted the cultural and economic oppression facing working-class and immigrant communities. For eight years we have created safe spaces within our neighborhoods for people to rehearse a liberated future. We have turned violence into art, education, activism and, over time, slowly yet crucially, liberation.  <br /><br />We are made to believe that our future is uncertain, but we heard them speak to us. We feel new frequencies resonating inside us. They are transmissions from our liberated future, sometimes vivid, and sometimes faded, never gone, but never complete, the voices strange, yet familiar. They have never been stronger than they are now. It is up to us to make them true.<br /><br /><br /><strong>How do we honor them?</strong><br />We accept their messages, and believe they are real. We accept their affirmations that we are working towards freedom, so we start sowing freedom now. Our struggles now bring great opportunity to stabilize Centro, in this place, as a permanent part of our future.<br /><br />We decided on a raising goal of $60,000, because it is the minimum amount needed for rent and maintenance of our building for the next year. It is devastating to share that <strong>Ericka, her mom, and her sister Flor lost their home and all of their belongings to a tragic house fire.</strong> This past Saturday, Jan. 19th at around 7:45am, Ericka and her mom were awakened by the smell of smoke coming from her mom's room.  911- fire and medical services were contacted immediately.  The fire was caused by an electrical shortage. Ericka made an attempt to minimize the fire but it began to spread rapidly, leaving her and her mom with no choice but to evacuate instantly. <br /><br />Both her and her mom inhaled smoke from the fire, and shortly after evacuating, Ericka's mom had a panic attack and collapsed right outside their home, she was taken to the hospital immediately. <strong>It is a blessing to say that no one was injured and they are extremely grateful for the support from the firefighters and paramedics.</strong> The fire was safely put out.<strong> Unfortunately,  all of their belongings including clothes, pictures, shoes, personal items, appliances, furniture, food and everything dear to them were lost. </strong><br /><br />As some of you know, the Flores family recently lost their brother, Bryan. Bryan was terminally ill but fulfilled his lifelong dream to become an officer and was sworn-in days before his passing as honorary Deputy Sheriff.  <strong>All of Bryan's belongings and memories his family was still cherishing were completely destroyed in the fire.</strong> This was heartbreaking news for the family.  <br /><br />Aside from the emotional, mental and physical distress this tragedy brings, it also brings tremendous financial hardships. <strong>We ask that you find it in your hearts to make a donation and help this family rebuild their lives.  Anything, no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated.  Please share with family, friends, co-workers and help us spread the word. </strong><br /><br /><strong>About Ericka:</strong> An independent, strong and vibrant mujer who has dedicated her life to advocate and fight for underserved communities. Bryan has terminal cancer and the time we have with him is very short. Doctors tell us he only has days left, maybe weeks. Bryan was diagnosed with cancer going on 3-years now, and as a family we always felt hesitant to ask for help, but we are now in a situation where any support is needed as we are experiencing a lot of financial stress due to this heartbreaking phase in our life. ❤️<br /><br />Although Bryan is in a lot of pain, there are a few activities he would still like to do and we could use your help to make his last wishes happen.  We will also begin to make funeral and burial arrangements and your love and support through this page is appreciated. <br /><br />We do not have much time left with Bryan, and want to make every minute count. As a family we appreciate any donations that can help us celebrate his life while he is still with us and afterwards as we put together the funeral. <br /><br />Even if you are not able to donate, we ask everyone to please pray for Bryan so he does not suffer from any more pain. Being undocumented in this country has not been easy and yet despite all these limitations my Abuelitos managed to raise me into the man I am today. <br /><br />Abuelito is no longer with us. All I have left is my old lady and since graduating college I have been working tirelessly to help support my family. For those of you that know my Abuelita, you also know that she is none stop. She can sell you anything from a perfume to some tamales. This lady is hardworking so even when I tell her to take a break she doesn't know how to.<br /><br />I am creating this fundraising effort because since my Abuelito's passing  I want to ensure that she lives her best undocu-life. <br /><br />I have been saving some money with my ultimate goal being to get my Abuelita out the hood. We arrived here in 1991 and in her time in the United States my Abuelita is proud that she saved $10,000 for when she is no longer able to work. That might not sound like a lot but when I tell you that I was raised in extreme poverty, this is a huge accomplishment. <br /><br />This fundraiser is a long time coming and I want to see if I can double that amount. He has touched our hearts in much greater ways then he himself could have imagined. His life revolved around helping others and ensuring our children had the opportunity they deserved. Though the news of his passing seems surreal and hurtful, we all know Commander Orduna has left behind an enormous legacy that will forever have a big place in our hearts. <br /><br />The realization of his passing has ever so slowly come to reality and no we must come together to help his son and family in the quest of giving Alirio the burial he deserves. Nothing will ever match his larger than life legacy but it is our duty to lay him to rest with the honors Alirio has earned. Alirio Orduna Funeral Expenses

My name is Kawan Akil Glover. I am a 23-year-old graduate from the University of Maryland College Park. I studied business finance and now I am a budding financial advisor and business consultant, working to help any and everyone achieve financial freedom through consultation and hands-on advice. Unfortunately, my career is being put on hold because of a recurring issue. In August of 2014, I developed something called a cavernous malformation on my Brain stem which caused me to lose control of my right side motor functions, develop slurred speech, and difficulty swallowing. The mass was discovered and subsequently removed for the most part. I returned to the university about two weeks after recovery, and as any 20 year old would do, I returned to my normal life but my body hadn't been given proper time to heal. I was president of the campus chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, taking a full load, and pursuing opportunities outside the classroom. Due to my incessant work ethic, I was not able to slow down and I suffered a stroke on September 18, 2014. I was rushed to the ER and spent a month at MedStar National Rehabilitation center in inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy. I was released on October 17, 2014, and spent the remainder of the year in outpatient therapy. I turned 21 on December 25, 2014. Following the stint in rehab, I returned to the University and completed a successful spring 2015 semester. Throughout the year I would continue to check in with my neurosurgeon and have MRI's to monitor the status of the malformation. Unfortunately, about September, it was discovered that the mass had regrown and was much more aggressive this time so we slatted a second surgery for October 1st, 2015. The surgery was successful in getting a lot of the mass material out of that small area of "high-priced real estate", and the doctors were happy. The scan did still show something there but not enough to raise alarm. Post surgery recovery was rough and took the rest of 2015 to do so. Constant checkups and MRI's were used to monitor the status. The whole year of 2016 and the first half of 2017 went swimmingly. I returned to physical activity, became independent, and best of all I graduated from Robert H. School of Business and started my career two days later. All seemed to be going according to plan until it wasn't.  Starting on September 9, 2017,  I began having constant headaches accompanied with waves of full body weakness and dizziness. By Thursday, September 14, 2017, I had decided to see my primary care doctor but she was out sick so I went to the ER. The CT and MRI scan showed that I had suffered another hemorrhage in the same area. The neurosurgery team thought it would be best stave off surgery, for now, so I was monitored for two days and sent home. The next day the Headaches got worse, and some new symptoms set in. The left side of my face is numb and nonresponsive, I cannot taste on the left side of my mouth, and the deficits on my right side are returning as I type. I woke up the next morning with double vision and nausea so It was back to the ER. It was discovered that yet another hemorrhage had taken place in the same area. The doctors had done two approaches already and the risks we high for a third entry so we were referred to a skull based specialist at Rutgers University hospital. All of my previous work had been done at  George Washington University Hospital. The doctor is highly qualified and is very confident that he can fix the problem in my brain. The only issue is that his practice does not take my insurance, and thus we would have to pay out of pocket for this procedure. The date is set for October 12, 2017, so time is of the essence. The deficits are getting progressively worse and  I need this procedure finally do away with something that has plagued my life for the last 3 years. Please donate what you can or even provide me with names of qualified neurosurgeons. My family and I need help, and if you are reading this I hope you can find it within you to do so.

Brain Surgery #3- Oct 12! Help Us!

My name is Nicolas Leclerc. I'm an United States Army Solider. I recently discovered my mom became terminally ill , but didn't know the extent of it , so life went on till recently when I received a Red Cross message saying that she is in the hospital. I rush home back to New York to discover my mom has Advanced/ stage 4 Colon Cancer along with other complications. It's hard to believe things like this can happen but it does and in 10 days I have to go back and perform my duty. All I'm asking for is help with anything you can. If you are unable to donate, that is completely fine. Corey Menafee is a former employee of Yale University who resigned after breaking a dining hall window featuring a racist depiction of slaves picking cotton. His resignation followed advisement that being fired would make it difficult to find employment. All proceeds from this fund will go directly to Mr. Menafee, to assist him and his family in his interim of unemployment.<br /><br />My name is Bianca Brooks and I'm a junior at Columbia and community outreach chair of Columbia's Intercultural Resource Center. In solidarity, I partnered with Yale black student leaders Akintunde Ahmad and Ivetty Estepana as well as Mr. Menafee's lawyer Patricia Kane to start this fund. I'm the only organizer I know of that has been in consistent contact with Mr. Menafee's lawyer and his family. All proceeds go directly to a trust Patricia Kane has set up for Menafee. Right now, he is trying to acquire a cell phone, a laptop, and Internet in order to communicate with his lawyer and the press. According to Ms. Kane, who is working pro bono, that's what the first of these funds will be used for. Mr. Menafee mentioned that he is also trying to support his family and is grateful for the outpour of support he's received. <div>While at ACA I will focus solely on my documentary film WHAT THE LAND GAVE US. This experimental and poetic film interweaves four immigrant narrators as they take us through the four seasons during a year in the life of an undisclosed pier. Many immigrants who live in Brooklyn spend their evenings on this pier, fishing and contemplating their lives as they look out to the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. All are from different parts of the world facing the same uncertainty of not knowing how long they will stay or when they will leave the US due to their legal status.

<div>My project is the cathartic experience of what it’s like to be an immigrant in the United States through the power of film. There are about 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Being undocumented means feeling like you have to hide your identity because you are in the United States “illegally.” Living with that constant threat of deportation and feeling like you have to hide your identity because of it, is a detrimental way of living for anybody. I know this because I was once undocumented. For this film I wanted to add a poetic sensibility to such dehumanizing experiences by transforming “living in the shadows” into a cinematic tool.  As I am developing this project I don't want to give too much away but<a href="https://vimeo.com/117018498" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> here is a teaser for the fall vignette. </a>

I started filming in Nov. 2012 with one seasonal vignette and since then it has developed to four different immigrant narrators. While ostensibly a film about fishing, this is really a film about loneliness; it's about feeling alienated and never feeling human enough.

Natalia Almada chose me to participate in the October residency at ACA. To be under the mentorship of one of my most influential filmmakers is a grand, grand feeling. However, considering my current financial situation, at this point the trip would be nearly impossible without your help.
