<div>Along with informing you about this project and the trajectory towards international touring that I have been recently invited to (more on October 15th), I am contacting you to ask for support with cultivating the necessary resources for presenting A Tale of Fire &amp; Flight and preparing for international touring.

<div>There are few compounding events that have greatly impacted the funding of this project. From the defunding of arts programs on a federal level to funding sources shifting their priorities, heightening the competition for arts funding as a consequence, the financial stability of A Tale of Fire &amp; Flight has been greatly impacted.

<div>The last blow that took the wind out of me was discovering that <a href="https://www.statepress.com/article/2025/08/politics-graduate-student-government-suspension-investigation" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ASU has suspended the Graduate Student Government </a>and paused all related funding. GSG, through their Graduate and Research Support Program and Travel Grants, has been instrumental in financially supporting graduate research for decades. Due to this suspension, my applied project only has I am at least $3,000 in debt due to a summer travel grant I was awarded from GSG that can not be reimbursed and thesis funding no longer being available.

Fund Dance & Technology Thesis: A Tale of Fire & Flight

<div>I never thought I'd ever have to make a post like this but unfortunately my parents along with my little brother were taken in by ICE/Bounty Hunters this Tuesday near the Phoenix Children Hospital (Be very careful, they're still doing multiple ICE raids around this area. We're trying to work on getting him a lawyer asap. If anyone is able to help in any way, I will greatly appreciate it. <div>He is being detained by the police in Japan at this time where he was sponsored to conduct dance classes and participate in the judging of competitions. Due to Japanese law, Singen is prevented use of a phone in or out, only through a private lawyer. Currently the sum of $ 12,000 dollars is needed to proceed with a private, English-speaking lawyer and other court costs.

Dion has a heart evaluation coming up on 7/16.My son was near death, surgen said Dion Humphrey was experiencing a pseudoaneurysm caused by police brutality while he was in police custody IN ERROR for about 7 hours. The police refused him medical help and dumped him off at home. His heart nearly bleed out according to the surgeons of Phoenix Children's Hospital. He is now in need of heart surgery.My son Dion Humphrey was wrongfully attacked by the Phoenix PD. Dion Humphrey is an African American with Sickle Cell Anemia which makes him very fragile and appear prepubescent. Dion is a sensitive soul who has never been in any kind of trouble.Dion Humphrey was arrested with extreme prejudice causing life-threatening injuries and irreparable mental and physical damages. Instead of being treated humanely he was shot in the heart and near his genitals with rubber bullets. The task force of 4 white police officers threw flash grenades out of their unmarked vehicles. They suffocated him by stepping on his back as they held him to the ground. They have admitted that he was not the person they thought he was. Dion Humphrey was in critical condition when they interrogated him for hours. The Children's Hospital's surgeon said that he now needs heart surgery as a direct result of the police assult. All this happened because he is a black kid walking his little sisters to elementary school.

Dion Lives

The humble beginnings of The Jukebox started 2010 in a small room at a ballet studio. With perseverance to push the art and passion for dance, we were able to relocate to a place of our own. Though smaller in size, The Jukebox continued to push the love for dance into the community and began to grow it's students in numbers. Our little space could no longer hold the amount of students coming in to feel the energy that The Jukebox has been able to generate through the years. With time and hard work, we were able to relocate to a bigger space.  <br />As The Jukebox continues its mission to inspire through art and mentorship, we have been blessed with an increasing growth of amount of students. Our classes have been packed, with limited space for the dancers' movement. In order to provide a  safe place for students and keep it affordable for everyone, we need to expand yet again and we humbly ask for your help. The money that we raise will be used to transition into a bigger facility and the amenities that the studio will need in order to be fully functional. We are so grateful for any amount that you are willing to contribute to The Jukebox. Dear Movers, <br /><br />We would like to clear the air and update you on our current situation. BreakOut prides itself on having an incredible atmosphere where all are welcome and dance steps are never judged. It is important that the space we occupy is drama-free. The behind the scenes work to keep that type of environment should, if all possible, stay hidden. Unfortunately, we no longer are able to keep repairing our space and dancing inside of it. <br /><br />For the past three years, we have been located at 828 N. Stone Ave. We have loved the massive size of the space and its location near University Blvd. We have fought, almost from day one, to tackle its challenges and push forward even when our budget was taken over. Upon moving in, we only had 2 weeks to completely empty out of our 4th Ave space and relocate. Building studios from scratch with sprung floors can take time, we managed to pull it off. Over the first few months we began fixing a windfall of the properties promised upgrades - electrical, plumbing, cooling, and the list goes on. We were told that all of these utilities had been upgraded prior to our move-in. Needless to say, over the next three years this did not end and the list grew. Our success as a business took a backseat to expensive repairs. Not only was the physical building not in good condition, but the city had no records of the space - we were liable for 65 years of random ad-ons and additions. Two years to get a CofO which ended up being challenged by fire dept inspections upon a parking complaint. Meanwhile, the owners of this building have not once stepped in to help with anything. Not even to provide documentation on the space to speed up permits or city inspections. Promises of help, but never follow-through. <br /><br />We have come to the point where we are unable to keep this continued liability of excessive rent, repairs and money out of pocket. Paying rent and keeping this old unkept building in good order. Over 3 years we have paid 95% of the rent on top of these expenses. The owners have sprayed for termites when we originally moved in - that's it. 5% of the rent has been withheld over the last few months as leverage to bring the owners to the table to discuss what we have spent on this space. The owners being out of state would arrange meetings but never show, demanding more funds. Yesterday we were told that we had only a few hours to vacate and a 24 hour lockout process would begin. Only a few hours to strip a space we had paid for and occupied for over 3 years. We got to work and most of our items got out. We could have caved to their demands but with council decided to stand our ground to protect the business longterm. It was a heart-breaking moment for all of us. So many hours - so many steps/ joy in that space. <br /><br />BreakOut is moving forward. We have relocated our valuables to my family's remaining space on 4th avenue. BreakOut will create a small pop up studio in our old 4th avenue space for the next couple weeks while we search for a new building. We will not stop dancing, we will not give up. BreakOut will need to reduce down to a 1 class per hour schedule for a while, but we will not close. We do not take lightly the trust and value we hold with our movers. We love you all deeply. <br /><br />BreakOut will need help. To be honest, we are depleted by the last 3 years. We will be needing support from the community to help relocate and continue our operations. BreakOut will be setting up a relocation GOFUNDME. These funds will be strictly used to open a new space, which we are already actively seeking. If you have any resource such as a contact on a rental space, time to help but not the funds, anything would be greatly appreciated. All current class cards and memberships will be extended as we make this exciting transition. <br /><br />We cannot thank you enough for the support we continue to receive. BreakOut Studios Relocation Fund

Hello friends. As I am not typically one to do the Go Fund me projects and ask for help nor money, someone by the name of Rob Rushing with Love Hope Strength was kind enough to organize one for my band and I during a very difficult time and the outpour was beyond words and thanks. Especially extremely helpful during the hard times.  I would now like to pay it forward and do the same for a very good and dear friend of mine and his family who have fallen on some very hard times. On the day after Christmas on December 26th of 2015, my friend Kevin Figueroa's father and mother were in their house as many were. That evening during a violent wind storm a tree in their front yard snapped and came crushing down onto their roof causing not only significant damage to the house, but startling his father Mr. Edward (Ed) L. Figueroa enough to trigger a heart attack. Upon going to the doctor they come to find out he has a blood clot the size of a grape in diameter  blocking one of his Heart Valves which comments is "massive". The clot depends on an "aggressive clot dissolving" medication which is very unfortunately not covered by insurance and is $1000 per bottle lasting only a month per bottle.  The doctor bills, visits, and stress that has been put on the family both financially and emotially is through the roof (no pun intended). I know many of you if any don't know Kevin Figueroa nor his family, but I do, and as a dear friend he has done so many kind acts for not only myself and family,  but also many people in his community as Kevin is a Firefighter in Strawberry Arizona. My hopes are  that this is in some way  can help him and his family if even in the slightest. Thank you for your time as well as any possible donations.
