Hi Everyone ❤️
It’s been a while since our last update. We hope you’re all keeping well and safe.
It’s October already, and since Liv’s kidney transplant in mid-May, we’ve barely spent 3 weeks at home! We did manage to celebrate both Liv’s 5th birthday and Vitalia’s birthday at home, which was lovely, especially for our little Liv. ❤️
Unfortunately, Liv has gone from one infection to another, mostly UTIs, but also infectious mononucleosis and a suspected kidney infection. It’s been incredibly rough on her, and her seizures have returned and worsened. She has now also been diagnosed with epilepsy. Thankfully, treatment was started quickly, but the seizures are still happening, mostly in hospital. We hope they’ll settle once she’s more stable and back home.
The doctors are also worried that all these infections could eventually affect her new kidney. They’ve told us they’ve rarely seen so many infections and complications in such a short time.
After numerous bladder tests, it’s also become clear that we need to take further action. On Monday, Liv will undergo a vesicostomy, creating an opening to help her bladder empty completely and reduce the risk of further infections and urine reflux into her kidneys. It’s not what we hoped for, but it’s necessary to protect her new kidney and, hopefully, keep us out of hospital for a long time.
Despite everything, we see how much Liv wants to do, learn and develop on her good days. We desperately hope she can finally start making progress after everything she’s endured.
We’re holding on to hope that, after this hopefully final operation, we can finally go home for a long stretch, help Liv regain her strength and watch her grow. ❤️
This journey has taken a huge toll on all of us, in more ways than we can explain here. We hope the coming months bring some much-needed peace and energy.
Thank you all for your incredible support, love and kind messages throughout this past year. It means more to us than words can say. ❤️
With love from all of us,
Liv, Vitalia & Lasse ❤️
