<div>Our daughter Lizzy has been battling persistent gastrointestinal issues for most of her life, experiencing chronic abdominal pain and food sensitivities. In 2022, she began eliminating foods from her diet to manage the pain. But last year, our family faced an unimaginable tragedy when Lizzy's younger sister, Delaney, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 16. This loss has profoundly impacted Lizzy, adding layers of grief and emotional pain to her already fragile health.

<div>In response to her grief, Lizzy's eating became more restricted, and over time, this led to the development of a serious eating disorder. Over the past few months, I’ve been searching tirelessly for help, and in August 2024, God connected us with a health coach specializing in eating disorders. However, as Lizzy's food intake increased through re-introduction, she has become at high risk for refeeding syndrome—a life-threatening condition if not addressed immediately.

<div>After consulting with her medical team, we’ve been told that the best option for Lizzy is residential treatment.  This program offers comprehensive care not only for her eating disorder but also for her underlying gastrointestinal issues and mental health concerns.

<div>The reality of residential treatment is daunting, both emotionally and financially. Insurance will cover only a fraction of the costs, leaving us with significant out-of-pocket expenses. Our family has already faced financial strain after Delaney’s passing, with funeral expenses, missed work, and medical bills. As a mother who has already lost one child, I am terrified of losing another.

<div>Lizzy’s estimated stay at the treatment center is 2-4 months. We need your support to give her the chance to heal and regain her health. We don’t want money to be the barrier that prevents her from getting the care she so desperately needs.

<div>My brother, Kori, was in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, June 21st. He’s in the ICU at the University of Iowa, intubated in a medically induced coma; letting his body heal while he rests. Currently we know he has several broken ribs, a broken collar bone, a collapsed lung, and a small brain bleed. Doctors will determine tomorrow what the next steps are for him. At this time we don’t know how long he’ll be in a coma, how much time he’ll need off work, etc.

<div>The money raised will be used to cover lost wages, medical bills and make sure Mallory and Emily are taken care of as needed.

Michael Clasen Dancing w/the Stars Dubuque Style

Just a quick summary on what Molly has been going thru since January 25th.  She was not feeling well and having a hard time breathing on Thursday afternoon but started to feel a little better that evening so we did not seek medical treatment. Unfortunately on Friday morning she was in very bad shape and having a very difficult time breathing so we called 911 and she was transported to the ER at Mercy Hospital where it was discovered thru an xray that her left lung had collapsed. This is due to a lung condition that she is being diagnosed with and we have a million questions about still. The doctors think that a blem in her lung tissue burst during a cough possibly and led to the lung collapsing. At the ER the doctors quickly put a chest tube in and she began to feel a little better and she was transferred to the ICU. After a few days in the ICU the doctors determined her lung was not getting better so surgery was the decision and that is what she underwent this morning. The surgery was successful and went well. She now has 2 larger chest tubes in to help inflate her lung back to where it should be. She is resting comfortably now but has many days of recovery in the hospital ahead of her. Then we will tackle and learn more about how to deal with the lung condition long term.<br />As you can imagine, the ongoing expense of her hospital stay and continued healing will add up.  We thank you for your continued prayers and support and we will keep you updated. Thank you to all of you who have reached out to help over the past week.<br />We are really looking forward to getting Molly healthy and back home to her boys and her fur baby. Thank you!
