Donna Sparks, my mother, is facing a difficult medical crisis after developing sepsis in her knee just one month after surgery. The infection began while she was visiting me, my wife Julie, and our two sons, Jacob and Zachary. Donna and my father had come to see Jacob's last baseball game and Zachary's final equine class, but sadly, Donna's symptoms worsened and she was unable to attend either event. She was rushed to Penn State Hershey Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove the infection and replace parts of her recent knee replacement. The seriousness of the infection means Donna will be hospitalized for at least the rest of the week. She will need to extend her stay for 6-8 weeks to undergo intensive intravenous antibiotic therapy and inpatient rehabilitation for her knee. This unexpected medical emergency has placed a significant financial burden on my parents, who are both on fixed incomes due to their physical disabilities. The costs of medical care, extended lodging, and travel are overwhelming, and they need support to get through this challenging time. We are asking for help to cover Donna's medical expenses, as well as living and travel costs during her recovery. Thank you all so much for your prayers and generosity during a time of need for my parents, who have always been so generous with their time and money to others. Your support means the world to our family and will help Donna focus on healing and getting back to the life she loves.
