<div> My mother and two younger brothers have contracted Hepatitis and jaundice from the contaminated drinking water here in Gaza and we have been struggling to treat them from the room we are staying in, without adequate medicine and unable to isolate from them. In addition, I have always struggled with respiratory issues, but they have become very severe during the war due to all the smoke and debris constantly in the air from non-stop bombing. I <strong>require an operation and treatments that I cannot receive in Gaza because of the collapsed healthcare system</strong>. I must be evacuated and treated abroad, which increases the costs my family will face when we reach Egypt, as I will have to have at least one operation to discover what the cause of the disease is and likely more to try to treat it.

<div> <strong>This is on top of all that we have already been through in this horrible war, including being displaced more than five times</strong>. At first, we believed that it was a war like any of the previous wars we had lived through, and it would end in a matter of days and life would return to normal. However, we were all shocked by the insanity we've been through so far and how this war was unlike any other and has ended life in Gaza as we knew it. For the first few days, we held our ground in Gaza until we were forced to evacuate to the south, thinking that it would be "safe." Not long after that, we figured out that even in the south, the war was completely destructive, and there was literally no safe place in Gaza. ‎‏

<div>A few days after our first evacuation, we received the news that the university where I study has been completely destroyed and that education in Gaza has become impossible. A few days later, we also received the news that the house in which we lived our whole lives had been destroyed. After all we had been through, late last year, we were forced once again to evacuate to Rafah despite having no place or shelter to move to. <strong>With severe shortages in food, fuel, electricity, and water and the presence of horrible diseases and no medical treatment, life is truly impossible. </strong>

<div> We were blessed to make it out of Rafah safely in May when the ground invasion began - our 6th time being displaced in this war, <strong>but we are still living in constant fear as the air strikes, phosphorus bombs, and smoke bombs get closer and closer to the area where we are sheltering each day. </strong>

<div><strong> You have to see what the people look like here in Gaza. We have lost the meaning of life and everything.</strong> The children are dying, they have lost life and everything. We do need a lot of time to recover from all of this, and the disaster is that the nightmare continues and has not ended. There are always obstacles and we just have to look forward. It’s really tiring, and now with education and everything destroyed, I have to forget everything that happened and focus on rebuilding my future. This is really very tiring. It takes a lot of mental health. But I am forced to keep going. If I fall and look behind me, I will lose everything. My family depends on me a lot as the eldest son, and there are many responsibilities that I was assigned to and I have borne since my childhood, so we are forced to move forward and not give in to despair.

Rebuilding Dreams: A Medical Student's in Gaza War

<div>My name is Lama Maher from Gaza...a high school student and it is the last stage of my school life. The fate of my future will be completely determined. At this stage, I was very excited because I was close to the end. I had a dream and ambition to study medicine and excel, but the Israeli occupation destroyed my school, my books, my home, and my dreams. With everything we have in Gaza, we have nothing left...

<div>The occupation forced us to forcibly displace us from northern Gaza after we were displaced more than 13 times in northern Gaza. There was no house left for family or friends that we did not go to. In the end, the occupation forced us to forcibly go to the south on foot, without bags or any possessions.
</div>
<div>We went to Khan Yunis to a relative’s house until the occupation made a ground entry into the area and forced us to leave it once again... We did not want to leave, despite the fierce bombardment and the non-stop artillery, but we had no other choice but to escape from death. We moved to Rafah, which the occupation claimed was a safe area, although we had no place to go, so we escaped with our souls from under the fire...Then a friend found us a room in his house and we settled in it until the occupation threatened to enter Rafah, which he said was a safe area. Indeed, the occupation made a ground entry into Rafah and it became unsafe, forcing us to flee again. There is no safe place here. No one is safe in Gaza. There were no institutions, associations, schools, mosques or homes left that were not bombed. Death is possible anywhere and at any time. We are now in the Nuseirat area (Salah al-Din), which is the closest area to northern Gaza. Despite its danger, we did not find A place to go to until now.. So I hope you will help us to have a safe and independent life and escape from this genocide.

Help Lama's Family Find Safety

<div> I am Taha, a 19-year-old man from Gaza. I finished high school with distinction. I was a first year student enrolled at Al-Azhar University in Gaza at the Faculty of Pharmacy with dreams of studying medicine. However, the war that began on October 7 radically changed my life. The university was destroyed in November. I think my last day there was October 5th. I don't know how I will continue my education. I was subjected to bombing and sustained serious injuries to my head during an air strike targeting Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip on November 17, 2023.

<div>My mother was also injured, and she is not in good condition and needs to complete her treatment as soon as possible. I stayed trapped under the rubble for 3 hours and endured some of the most excruciating pain during that time, which worsened the damage to my wounds. The pain is getting worse, and getting the necessary medical treatment has become my top priority.

<div> Due to the ongoing blockade and closure of crossings, it has become difficult to leave Gaza to receive necessary medical treatment. The conditions here are horrific: there is no electricity, internet, water, food or medicine. My family and I live in a tent that does not provide adequate protection from the harsh winter cold. I am not alone in this suffering. I have a mother, father and two younger brothers who face the same harsh conditions. In the future, I hope I can raise money to help them as well, but for now, my immediate concern is to get urgent medical treatment for my head. The health system in Gaza is collapsed, and I need to travel to a safe place where I can get the necessary care to prevent my health from deteriorating.<br />
