I am a 72-year-old woman who has spent the last four years supporting my adult handicapped son and my grandson. My son was born with hip dysplasia in both hips, and due to his age, he can only get lifetime state healthcare. He is too young for SSI and unable to get a hip replacement at this time. Caring for him and my grandson has been my priority, and I have always worked hard to provide for my family.
After working for my last employer for 22 years, I was let go despite handling over 500 calls a week and maintaining excellent performance stats. Now, my Social Security income is not enough to cover our basic needs—rent, bills, food, medication, and even household essentials like toilet paper. I am also managing my own health issues, including afib, high blood pressure, and diabetes. My doctor has advised me to keep my stress level down, but that has been nearly impossible with the constant worry about how we will get by.
I am reaching out for help because I fear for our future. Without support, we could end up on the streets with nowhere to go and no car. I worry about what will happen to our belongings and how I will continue to care for my family. Your support would mean the world to us, helping us stay safe, healthy, and together during this difficult time. If you are able to help, please know that your kindness will make a real difference in our lives.
