<div>Hi, my name is Helena Tellez. Yesterday my family and I were forced to evacuate our area quickly. In our rush to escape and with hopes that we would be able to return after a few days we left behind almost everything except for our backpacks full of clothes and our pets. We got a call later that morning that our house, along with almost every other house on our street had burnt to the ground. Everything we owned is now ash, childhood memories, sentimental and irreplaceable items, and the comfort and security of our home was all gone in a matter of hours. With almost nowhere to go we have ended up at our relatives’ house, but with only 2 rooms and 10 people, my entire family is sleeping in the floor of the living room. The fire has devastated our family along with hundreds of others, but as a community we will persevere. <span>The love and support we have received already means so much and hopefully your generosity can help us move forward.</span>

<div>I come to you today with a heavy heart and a plea for help. My beloved dog, Apollo, is currently facing a daunting battle against cancer. It all started when a mass was discovered on the inside of his lip, which turned out to be cancerous. Surgery was swiftly performed to remove the mass and the sample was sent off to pathology. Despite testing, the specific type of cancer remains unclear, with only a diagnosis of spindle cell melanoma.

<div>Unfortunately, our journey recently took a devastating setback when the original lab, where Apollo's sample was being held, disposed of the sample before it could be transferred to a different lab and tested further. With little information to guide us, my oncologist and I are left with uncertainty about the best course of action for Apollo's treatment.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Despite the setbacks in a treatment plan, Apollo is fighting bravely and remains eager to enjoy life, chase birds (sorry birds), and eat alllll of the veggie snacks his momma will allow. He is undergoing immunotherapy to boost his body's ability to combat cancer cells; specifically, he is receiving bi-weekly melanoma vaccinations, which have shown promising results in extending survival time.
</div>

</div>
<div>However, to give Apollo the fighting chance he deserves, further tests and treatments are essential. The oncologist recommends a CT scan for detailed analysis to see if the cancer has spread, and a recut of his lip to remove any remaining microscopic cells that may still be present from the tumor. She is also recommending the removal of his mandibular lymph nodes, as testing could not determine whether the trace amounts of abnormal cells present were due to inflammation or if the cancer has spread.

<div>As much as I wish I could shoulder the financial burden alone, I've been unemployed since January and have been struggling with my own medical issues. I'm doing everything in my power to provide Apollo with the care he needs, but the costs are mounting up quickly. Without these crucial tests and treatments, Apollo's chances of survival or remission diminish significantly.
</div>

<div>Apollo is not just a pet; he's my loyal companion, my confidant, constant shadow, and my source of endless joy. He is my baby. Black Lives Matter - Los Angeles

<p>Hello! I am a 911 dispatcher, and as you can imagine we come across some crazy stuff. On the early morning of November 26th I received a call that would change my life forever. In short, I am now part of the Stork club! The mother was alone,  and I instructed her over the phone on the delivery of her baby. It was 4 am and 39 degrees out, and she was in a homeless encampment under a bridge in a tent. She had NOTHING. I collected money from my amazing coworkers and some close family and put together a diaper bag with some essentials. Together we had enough to also get her a stroller and carseat. When I went to visit her at the hospital, we found out she actually had twins (the 2nd born at the hospital). The mom has nothing, she literally doesn’t have clothes to leave the hospital in! My goal is to raise enough to help with a down payment and first months rent on a place for her as well as some money for clothes and essentials. As you can imagine, things in the Bay Area are not cheap hence the high goal amount.  I understand it’sclose to the holidays and even so much as a share will help!

Homeless and living under a bridge in a tent when the contractions hit, slow and steady so you thought you had time to find a way to the hospital. When they increased in intensity you realized that was not the case at all and quickly dialed 911. Your call hit CHP who then transferred you to me. It was chaos as I tried my best to keep you calm and get your location, which you could only give as a general area in a tent under a bridge. When I asked how far along you are you told me you didn’t know! As the field responders were on their way, I did my best to get through my medical protocol. You were in so much pain and alone, I can’t imagine how you felt but you definitely were not an easy caller. When I asked you once more to feel for any parts of the baby, you yelled out that you could feel her head!! As I talked you through delivery, you exclaimed that she’s out! Those precious cries are something I will never forget. I think we were equally relieved when the fire department got on scene. They transported you and your baby separately to the nearest hospital and I said a prayer for the health and stability of you both. This call was a rough one for me, as I’m a mom too and couldn’t imagine going through what you did. You are so brave and strong!

<p>The next day I reached out to my supervisor and got the ok to reach out to the hospital. Thenurse checked with you and let me know that you’d love a visit! So I reached out to my amazing coworkers and closest family, and together they pooled $350 together for you. That along with my donation allowed me to buy you a stroller/car seat combo, diaper bag full of clothes, diapers and wipes and some blankets. You were so surprised when we arrived at the hospital, but had a surprise yourself when you told us you had TWINS!! TWIN. GIRLS!! The first baby was born in the tent with me on the phone and the second baby at the hospital.  You affectionately nicknamed your babies Lobster and Panda, and sat and shared your birth story with my supervisors and I. You told us that you had no pregnancy symptoms and barely found out a month and a half ago that you were expecting! The doctors estimated that the girls were born at 35 weeks gestation, they only weighed 3 and 4 lbs. The babies were transferred to a higher level NICU so we weren’t able to meet them, but you invited us to come see them at the other hospital. My heart broke for you and your story, alone with no family to support you.  Although I know you’re so excited you also expressed your concern due to your current living condition. A social worker has been assigned and is going to help with resources, job placement and parenting classes but  my hope is to raise enough money to help get you and your beautiful family on your feet. After meeting you and seeing what a great attitude you have towards everything, I could tell you really want to do better. We all fall on hard times but there’s always hope, sometimes all you need is a little love and support

A call out to our loved ones!<br /><br />Our dear friends, Virginia and Sarah, are about to go through a couple of months when they could use some love and generosity.<br /><br />Virginia just donated a part of her liver to a friend of hers (more details below) and when Brooke and I found out about this we wanted to send flowers, or something. <br /><br />But we learned that in the transfer ward no one can receive anything fun. So, we reevaluated and thought about how we could help them in the long run. We kept thinking about how we could show our love and support and maybe you are too.<br /><br />*Below is some more information from Virginia about everything. :)<br /><br />-------------------<br /><br />From Virginia:<br /><br />A colleague and friend of mine needed a new liver. We discovered I was match, so I went through the evaluation process and decided to do this thing. <br /><br />The surgery is a hepatectomy - so they’ll take the right lobe of my liver out through a “chevron incision” that supposedly will end up looking kinda like a hockey stick. I SINCERELY HOPE it does end up looking like a hockey stick, because that will make the tattoo so much easier to design. ;) <br /><br />I will spend a couple of days in ICU, then will be in the hospital another 5 days or so, then will be recovering at home for another 6-12 weeks. I’m hoping for the shorter end of that recovery, but have to be honest with myself that I might not have the recovery speed of a 20 year old.  <br /><br />-------------------<br /><br />Brooke and I are moved but not not surprised by Virginia's and Sarah's generosity and we want to help them get through the next couple of months while Virginia recovers. And while they realize they are luckier than many, they still need to cover all of their expenses and some health-related costs. <br /><br />Virginia won't be able to work for at least a couple of months and we're hoping to help them out a bit. It'll be a long recovery and the lovely Sarah will be working full time, while also taking care of her wonderful wife, but going from two incomes to only one, will be a challenge.<br /><br />Any amount helps. While he was there, he collapsed and had to be hospitalized himself. After an emergency procedure and hospital stay, he came home New York City, where he lives with his husband, Morry.<br /> <br />Life became a blur of tests, doctor visits and new prescriptions. Barry was diagnosed with liver disease, and will likely need a transplant.<br /> <br />Barry and Morry do have health insurance (COBRA from Barry’s last job). Like many Americans, Barry found himself downsized out of his career, and has been freelancing and living on savings since.<br /> <br />How many of you have been on COBRA? (Many people raise their hands. Some say: COBRA? I couldn’t afford THAT.) COBRA means you have insurance, but there’s a large payment due each month, compared to an employer-sponsored plan.<br /> <br />Barry and Morry have friends and family who love them, and are working to provide the support they need as they figure out What Happens Next.<br /> <br />The first thing we’d like to do is to make sure that their rent, COBRA and co-pays/prescriptions are covered for the next three months. <p>Odin, my wonderful rescue pup who survived living on the hard streets of LA for years, the master of eating things he shouldn't, has found himself with a linear foreign body within his intestines and a splenic tumor that's potentially cancerous. I'm asking my friends and family to please help us. From Jeanie’s journal…<br /><br />“Feb. 17th. will remain the most difficult day of my life. I drove in the pouring rain to Cedars Sinai Hospital.  There by the grace of God he delivered me to this amazing place. I was so sick as I walked in the rain from a parking lot to the ER and a young volunteer rescued me and took me to a peaceful pediatric waiting room. My incredible oncologist got me into the hospital and saved my life. I had no white blood cells or platelets and my bone marrow was compromised. I have Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. This disease, it’s curable. I was two days from leaving this earth.”<br /><br />Jeanie Brandes, who had never been sick a day in her life, was in the hospital for 36 days.  Although she is home now, Jeanie is undergoing intense chemotherapy treatments 5 days a week.  <br /><br />If you know Jeanie, you are familiar with her infectious smile and bubbly personality. I can tell you, even in the midst of this diagnosis, she is the same optimistic person who makes a friend wherever she goes. <br /><br />For years, Jeanie lived her lifelong passion of singing and songwriting. with a career that blessed many who were fortunate to hear her perform.  The beautiful sounds she used to sing effortlessly are now in jeopardy of being heard again. She is fatigued and her vocal chords were affected by the medications during the lengthy hospital stay.<br /><br />As a vocal coach, Jeanie has touched countless lives with her God-given talent through the years.  Her extended family is her students, friends and colleagues. HOW IS #SOPHIA WILANSKY <br /><br />Sophia Wilansky is a water protector from New York. She left New York City several weeks ago to help with the struggle at Standing Rock. She been an active participate and family to the activist groups NYC Shut It Down and Hoods4Justice. Sophia has always been committed to confronting injustice through vigilance and resistance. <br />Sophia was giving out bottles of water to protectors holding down the space when she was shot with a concussion grenade. This was the response of police and DAPL mercenaries as she and other brave protectors attempted to hold the line against the black snake in hservice of protecting our water. As of last night, we found out she was air lifted to County Medical Center in Minneapolis were she’s currently undergoing extensive, hours-long surgery from injuries sustained from the blast.<br />Please consider donating to help pay for her treatment. Immigrants rights groups and community members have confirmed that street vendors are being detained while at work. Immigrants are being detained without cause, without due process, and by federal agents who refuse to share their identification and where they are being transported to.

<div>These incidents have spread fear throughout Los Angeles. Street vendors are afraid to work, and those that are risking vending in our communities, are faced with little foot traffic. For many vendors, even one day of lost wages will mean they will not be able to put food on their families table or pay their rent.

<div>The LA Street Vendor Campaign is fielding more and more calls from street vendors and their families who are struggling financially. Many relatives and friends ask for support in identifying vendors’ whose whereabouts are unknown.
