My name is Jessica Windham, and I am writing this as the only surviving member of my immediate family. On June 9, 2026, my mother was found deceased in Palmdale, California, under tragic circumstances that are currently under active investigation. If I am being entirely honest, my mom and I were not close as I’d hoped we would be before God called her home. I was not raised by her, and because of that, our relationship was complicated. For a long time, I always believed and hoped that we would have more time in the future to heal, talk, and finally get closer. Someone cruelly took that choice and that time away from us when they ended her life.
This is not the first time stolen time has devastated my life. My father has already passed away, and back in 2000, right before my summer vacation, my brother was also murdered right here in Palmdale. I was waiting for school to end so my summer could start, so I could finally meet and hug him in person for the very first time in my life because he was taken from my grandmother's custody when I was just a baby, and because my dad was determined to find my brother and bring him home and try to rebuild his family and make it whole again after years of separation, it was all coming together. We started talking on the phone, and we became so close like we were never apart. Our summer was coming fast, so we started making summer plans. Until that day when that new piece that had just been put back in was ripped out because I was no longer going to meet him, but instead saying goodbye to my brother, who was taken from us again.
Now, as her only living child, that responsibility of laying my mother to rest falls entirely on my shoulders. Because of the tragic circumstances of her passing, my mother's body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when she was found. This heartbreaking reality means that a traditional viewing or open-casket funeral is not possible, and my children will be saying goodbye to their grandmother, whom they never met in person but had spoken to a few times on the phone.
My ultimate goal is to fulfill what I know she would have wanted: to bring her back to Lancaster to be laid to rest alongside my dad or my brother at Joshua Memorial Park. After a lifetime of separation, distance, and violent tragedy, your donations will directly help me bring our immediate family back together in one final, peaceful resting place.
Because we were distant, I am completely unprepared for the sudden financial burden of these final expenses. We will be moving forward with a direct cremation or immediate closed-casket burial through the mortuary, followed by a graveside service to place her with our family.
Every single dollar raised will go directly toward the fees at Joshua Memorial Park to make this family reunion possible. Any amount you can give will help me give her a dignified resting place and bring a small piece of closure to a lifetime of family tragedy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, and supporting me through this.
