Hello all. My name is Danika Rowan, and I am raising funds for my surgery housing and recovery process.
On Oct. 12th will be the culmination of the three-year process to get gender congruency reconstructive surgery.
While my surgery itself is covered by my insurance, many parts of the recovery are not.
After the surgery, I will have to stay in a medical "hotel" for recovery for two weeks. While my care staff visits are covered by my insurance, the room itself is not covered by my insurance. The doctor said I should budget about $100-$125 per day for 10-14 days.
After the surgery:
The recovery for the surgery is rather long, and for the first 6 weeks I am limited to 150 steps per day and I have to have someone prepare my meals or order delivery.
For the first three months, I am going to be restricted to not lifting more than 10 lbs.
Already being disabled, this is going to further limit the work I can do. It will be six months before I can go back to work.
As you can probably imagine, I am going to be very bored, stuck in the house for a month and a half and unable to work for six months.
Fighting off confinement boredom:
To ease my restlessness, I have also revisited a craft that I took up when I worked at my uncle's "boutique" leather shop. I will be making leather restraints and collars, along with some leather toys. I am also raising funds for hardware and more leather. I already have some, but I am lacking some tools and hardware. My loving friend has already donated an actual leather working kit. I am hoping to offset some costs by selling some of the leather goods I make while recovering. I would also like some art supplies and books.
Thank you for reading.
