My name is Tim Earls. I am a set designer, illustrator, artist and former architectural designer. It is incredibly difficult to ask for help, but navigating a prolonged period of hardship entirely alone has become a burden too heavy to carry.
Following a major personal loss and the sudden halt of my film production work in late 2022, I tried to turn adversity into an opportunity for growth. I poured my natural optimism, drafting skills, and creative experience into learning modern fabrication techniques. I bought a small laser engraver, a 3D printer, and a CNC machine, working tirelessly to translate my knowledge of architecture and concept design into physical models and graphics.
Despite launching an Etsy shop—deeply inspired by the legacy of my friend Geoff Mandel—the market has been tough, and sales have not caught up to my reality. My savings and an emergency-depleted pension are now completely gone. My current monthly income cannot stretch to cover basic living expenses, let alone the vehicle repairs I desperately need to get back on the road.
I am rich in ideas, blueprints, and determination—including plans for a book on hard-science spacecraft design. But I am completely out of resources. I am asking for your support to help me hit the reset button. Funds will be used to clear out costly storage spaces, resolve my transport issues, and provide short-term stability while I seek the professional direction and opportunities required to get back on my feet. Thank you for reading my story and for any help you can give.
These are the expenses that I need help covering:
· Rent for two months: $3000
· Storage Unit near home: $860
· Storage Unit 1: $296
· Storage Unit 2: $650
(I am exploring options to close down storage units 1 and 2 ASAP and transferring the contents to my home storage unit. So I don't have an estimate yet.)
· LADWP (power) bill, past due: $1110
· SoCal Gas: $70
· Car Repair: $Unknown. (As I am unable to, only a mechanic can determine the cause and cost.)
· Miscellaneous costs of non-food home supply items.
Cheers
Tim
