<div>My name is Sheila and I'm a lollipop - a complete sucker for the abandoned and mistreated puppies of my sleepy Pueblo Magico - Todos Santos, BCS Mexico. Puppies in need seem to find me wherever I go and I just can't turn my back on them. I'm working on setting up a proper puppy rescue organization and I would appreciate your help.

Mamá Luna's Puppy Rescue

<div>Marsha Fowler, nurse scholar and nursing ethics historian, escaped the fire that raged through Altadena, California, on January 8th. However, she lost her home and many precious belongings. We are grateful that she is safe. She only had a few minutes to grab what she could carry in one trip to the car, so she drove away with only with the clothes she was wearing, a mini laptop and her hearing aids. <strong>Please contribute whatever you can to ease her journey through this loss.</strong>

<div>My name is Peggy Chinn (<a href="https://peggychinn.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://peggychinn.com/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://peggychinn.com/</a></a>). I am initiating this fundraiser so that Marsha's colleagues and friends can provide this form of support for her during this trying time. I came to know Marsha personally through her contributions to the Nursology.net blog (<a href="https://nursology.net/author/marsha-fowler/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://nursology.net/author/marsha-fowler/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://nursology.net/author/marsha-fowler/</a></a>). I was also honored to preview her groundbreaking book "Nursing Ethics, 1880s to the Present: An Archaeology of Lost Wisdom and Identity" (<a href="https://www.routledge.com/Nursing-Ethics-1880s-to-the-Present-An-Archaeology-of-Lost-Wisdom-and-Identity/Fowler/p/book/9781032200712?srsltid=AfmBOoqqmqSURO1P7_rSJ0XdEmtlbBxGbZUlzPK6quT4CSxgkJeZBzk7" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.routledge.com/Nursing-Ethics-1880s-to-the-Present-An-Archaeology-of-Lost-Wisdom-and-Identity/Fowler/p/book/9781032200712?srsltid=AfmBOoqqmqSURO1P7_rSJ0XdEmtlbBxGbZUlzPK6quT4CSxgkJeZBzk7" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.routledge.com/Nursing-Ethics-1880s-to-the-Present-An-Archaeology-of-Lost-Wisdom-and-Identity/Fowler/p/book/9781032200712?srsltid=AfmBOoqqmqSURO1P7_rSJ0XdEmtlbBxGbZUlzPK6quT4CSxgkJeZBzk7</a></a>).

Marsha Fowler Needs Our Support Now

<div>Update on Sean. Please help if you can...
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The technical news (it's not great):
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sean's doctor has decided on the best course of action for his surgery. First, they'll block off the blood vessels (embolization) to reduce blood flow to the problem area. Then, he'll have brain surgery to remove the abnormal blood vessel formation (AVM). This involves removing a part of the back of his skull to access the AVM. The surgeon will gently move aside brain tissue to reach the AVM, which is located near the center of his brain in the cerebellum, a part of the central nervous system. Before the surgery, he'll need a special CT scan to help guide the process.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The real world news (also, not great):
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sean's brain surgery is scheduled for July 10th and while the $7000+ raised when we launched this fundraiser has been helpful, but it's nowhere enough at this point. The property management company for the apartment he and Amy live in is getting ready to evict them. They have a scheduled a court date for June 24th and SDI (disability) is delayed due to paperwork and won't help right now. Sean and Amy not only owe back rent but they need a chunk to get into a new place after the surgery is over and he's on the mend.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With that, we really need to hit the $25,000 goal of this fundraiser, if not more. If you have anything to give and can help by sharing this gofundme to your network or other people who know Sean and Amy it would be so helpful.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thanks for all your continued support. Sean and Amy love each and every one of you.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hi, if you know Sean you know he's a kind, selfless, hardworking super human, but today he needs our help. Sean suffered a serious stroke earlier this week. To be more exact, it was a "non-traumatic cerebellum stroke." And as far as I can explain, this means there was bleeding above his brain stem in the cerebellum, which is the central nervous system. He was sent home after a few days but was back in the ER for a bit today before being sent home again. The after-effects are impeding his vision and doing a number on his blood pressure. Sean sits at a computer every day for work, writing code or sharing memes with all of us, both of which are difficult to do when your eyes and your brain aren't functioning at the warped speed it's used to. While Sean has health insurance right now, this could take months to recover from, and he and his amazing wife Amy could use some help covering day to day living expenses that still need their attention (and money). If you know Sean, you know he would do it for you. If we all give a little, it'll surely add up to a lot. Let's show Sean and Amy some love to get them through everything they are going through right now.
</div>

Sean Renet can use our love right now.

<div>Hey guys! My family and I have never been the kind to ask for financial help but we have been faced with a situation where we don’t know what else to really do, my grandma Nancy recently had a stroke and became partially disabled in half of her body when it happened, she also lost memory of her name and age but still managed to pull through it and is in recovery at the moment.
</div>
<div>With all this done, we became faced with a medical bill that our family is having trouble paying.
</div>
<div>If you can help in any way it will be highly appreciated, in these situations anything counts.
</div>
<div>If you don’t have change to spare, your good wishes and energy is enough, we love you all and will keep you posted.
</div>
<div>Update.
</div>
<div>She went back in to the ER with liquid in her lungs but is stable now

HELP us FEED 16 equines

<div>Hello friends and community members,
</div>
<div>Our favorite Chingona, Ivonne Jeremy, needs our help. I am sharing her message with you:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>"You know me, I am always “Super Ivonne” that can do everything but I am vulnerable. This time, I will listen to my heart and reach out for help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am in the hospital now (April 19). Last year doctors found a stone half the size of my right kidney. I had surgery in March 2022, in which they took 90% of the stone and would wait for me to recover in order to remove the rest this year. 10 days ago, I started with pain and vomiting. The doctor in Todos Santos said it was a urinary infection, and he gave me two strong antibiotics. After two days without improvement, I went back. They sent me straight to a hospital where the doctors told me it was my bladder and wanted to remove it. Panicked, I called my doctor in Guadalajara who had performed the procedure last year. He told me not to let them take my bladder and come immediately to Guadalajara. I flew here yesterday and after many tests, I am scheduled for emergency surgery to remove two stones that are blocking the urethra. The kidney is so inflamed that I risk losing it without immediate surgery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As you know, I am an employer and business owner of Hablando Mexicano English School. I have insurance but, sadly, coverage for this surgery has been denied because the insurer said it was a preexistent condition. A clause in my policy says that I must wait at least two years to treat the issue. That is not possible now. And, to make matters worse, the public hospitals will not host my surgery because I have insurance. It is maddening and terrifying at the same time. To face a potentially life-altering condition is hard, but to do so knowing that you may also face financial ruin for your family is heartbreaking.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning. I am told that the procedure will cost approximately $10,000 USD.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As hard as it is to say, I need help. Anything you can spare will help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ -Ivonne"

Emergency surgery needed to save Ivonne's kidney

8/18 <br /><br />It’s with a heavy heart that we have to share that heaven has gained another angel. Hazel fought so hard and was such an amazing puppy. She went through a lot and is now at peace. <br /><br />For the short amount of time Hazel was ours, we made sure she knew she was loved and we will miss her very much. This ending has broken our hearts but we wouldn’t change how much we fought for her. We tried everything we could. We have been left with $17,000 dollars in vet bills that we need to pay off. <br /><br />Any relief that we can get is truly appreciated. <br /><br />8/17 We rescued Hazel on August 5th, 2019. Of the 12 days that she’s been a part of our family, she’s been in the hospital for 11 of them.<br /><br />5 hours after she came into our lives we had to rush her to the emergency vet where she was diagnosed with Parvo.<br /><br />She spent a total of 1 week in the hospital battling Parvovirus where her health was touch and go and we weren’t sure if she would survive. Miraculously, she pulled through and we were able to pick her up along with a vet bill of $7000+. Even though that number was daunting, we had created an aggressive plan to tackle the cost and pay off her treatment ourselves.<br /><br />Unfortunately, Hazel’s saga did not end there.  <br /><br />Only 24 hours later, Hazel was rushed back to the hospital where she was put back into isolation due to complications from her illness. It was discovered a day later that the virus had caused damaged to her intestines (Intussusception: Her intestines fold into themselves causing a blockage of her GI tract). Less than an hour after the diagnosis Hazel was taken into surgery.<br /><br />She made it through the surgery. However, the virus and the Intussusception had taken its toll on her body and she required a blood transfusion today. Her prognosis is still very hopeful, and we are doing everything we can to help her recover quickly.<br /><br />At this point in her journey, she has accrued a new vet bill of $8000 and counting. We are looking for any resources available to assist us in paying for her surgery.<br /><br />We hope to bring her home soon.<br /><br /> <br /><br />P.S. We are happy to send more details/information if needed.<br /><br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/41393840_1566068828586684_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" />(Hazel's only day home: Before the surgery)<br /><br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/41393840_1566068852171399_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/41393840_1566068874643609_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/41393840_1566071413921465_r.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" />(The day we brought her home)

Jonathan Gold’s <a href="http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-fo-jonathan-gold-obit-20180721-story.html">sudden death at 57</a> , mere weeks after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, dealt a concussive blow to Los Angeles, the international food community, his many friends and a legion of devoted readers. But it stunned and devastated his family with whom he shared so many adventures —his wife, Laurie Ochoa; their 23-year old daughter Isabel and 15-year old son Leon.  Jonathan loved being a food critic but he loved his family more, and though they are a valiant trio, his death has unmoored them in many ways, including financial.  Contributions will help them cover immediate expenses and provide for Izzy and Leon’s education.<br /><br />Photo courtesy of Anne Fishbein.

For the Family of Jonathan Gold

For the past two years, I have suffered in silence because of a legal battle.  Honestly, I am facing the biggest obstacle of my professional life.  If you have ever watched me cook, you know that I am most careful to take my time to bring out tremendous flavor in the food I prepare.  My challenge is from individuals that originally backed my expertise. <br /><br /> <br /><br />The work that I do and the level of proficiency that I employ, took time to perfect.  Each day, I spend countless hours honing my culinary skills so that only the best food is eaten by the people I love.  Unfortunately, some of my early backers misunderstood the culinary process and decided to sue me.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />As a self-confident and proud woman, I have no problem working hard to correct problems. I have spent all of my money and also repeatedly tried to resolve this matter peacefully. However, this fight will only end if I settle this lawsuit for $111,000.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />Several of my closest friends and supporters have pledged to donate generously to help me.  In light of the numerous pledges, I am still in need of financial assistance to reach my goal.  If I do not raise $111,000 by August 15, 2017, I may no longer be able to continue working at 2 Cents LA.  My absence will affect the other 17 beautiful people who work with me and pour their hearts and souls into the food that they prepare each day.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />The time is now and the need is immediate.  Please donate what you can to support our role in our wonderful community and to keep me cooking at this place I call home.<br /><br />With gratitude,<br /><br />Chef Alisa<br /><br />Please share this campaign on social media using the following hashtags: <br /><br />#savechefalisa<br />#freechefalisa

It's hard to put into words exactly who our friend Jakleen  is... she is so many things. Smart, strong, courageous, beautiful and a loving mother to a young son... this is just a small way to even begin to describe her.  <br /><br />In February 2013, Jakleen was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer that she is now fighting for the FOURTH time and on December 21, 2015, she shared her story on Facebook: <br /><br />****With the year coming to an end and Christmas around the corner I find myself reflecting on the past year &amp; subsequently about the past 2 1/2 years. (give or take a few months) To say my family and I have been "challenged" would be an understatement. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in February 2013 just 5 days before my cosmetology exam (which I took and passed.) I used my love for my career choice to help me cope with this very scary and unsettling news. I chose to keep it somewhat private sharing with only a few friends and family. However, after many bumps in the road with four more recurrences, four surgeries &amp; being told to quit my profession due to the caustic chemicals I was starting to feel like I was losing. To think the ONE thing (aside from my family and little man) was now being taken away from me. It gave me focus &amp; strength, gave me calm &amp; the perfect amount of distraction, not to mention to just feel normal &amp; so happy because I was doing what I loved and now to be told I had to stop was just depressing. SO after I had my pity party &amp; meltdown I decided to take a different approach &amp; share my story with my friends through my posts. It began on my 41st birthday (November 8th.) It was fitting it was the ‪#‎cityofhope‬ ‪#‎walkforhope‬ &amp; I decided to use it as my rebirth to embrace &amp; acknowledge my disease versus hiding it from my friends &amp; myself. The result was such a profound outpouring of love, support, prayers, encouragement, positivity, &amp; strength. It has been such an amazingly humbling experience that I just had to put my sincere gratitude out for all to read. We live in a world where far too often we share angry, frustrating, or downright pointless stories just for the sake of filling space. This is just my way of pouring some gratitude &amp; happiness out there. After all, it's been said that a positive thought is twice as powerful as a negative one so if we all just take a sec &amp; do this who knows maybe you can fill the space with something that will touch &amp; help someone dealing with a difficult time who unbeknownst to them needed it. It worked really well for me. Thank you to all guardian angels &amp; cheerleaders. I love you all.*****<br /><br />This is just a glimpse at how positive and beautiful Jakleen is... inside and out. <br /><br />So today we are here to ask for your support, generosity and  kindness. Jakleen and her family have been devastated by this illness on so many levels. She has never asked for help or money, so we are doing it for her.  Because of her illness, treatments, medical bills and loss of her career... Jakeleen has been burdened with incredible financial hardship. We are hoping to make one part of her battle easier as she continues to fight this horrible disease. She is currently fighting her FOURTH and god willing her last, reoccurance of this disease. Jackie has been battling infections and low white blood counts... which causes her to miss treatment, which in turn causes her tumors to swell.  After a double masectomy and mulitple  surgeries, the cancer has still managed to  spread to her lymphnodes. This is a horrible, awful diesease and she has a rough road ahead of her, but Jackie is a fighter and SHE WILL beat this!<br /><br />We would greatly appreciate anything you can share... the smallest amount will help. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for taking the time to read about Jackies story and for all your kindess. <br /><br />With Love &amp; Gratitude, <br /><br />Elle &amp; Vanessa

<strong>Page</strong> is truly something special. When my boyfriend, Mike told me he had a then twenty four year old daughter I became intimidated. Then I met her. This is one young woman who has a true sense of self. She had a very rough childhood and her mother Heather really did a great job. Responsible, funny, intelligent, Page has an infectious smile. That smile started to dwindle as she began experiencing severe headaches. Randomly, for another matter, Page had an MRI and they found she had a 3 cm cyst/tumor of the pineal gland in her brain. Now some go on fine without  surgery but hers is causing unbareable pain and could lead to significant loss of motor function and eye site as the cyst is pushing on her other parts of the brain.<br /><br />Her current insurance says she needs surgery asap however they won't do it nor will they refer her. There is an amazing doctor who can do the brain surgery but the cost is high. We are trying to switch insurances even without it being open enrollment. <br /><br />At best scenario we would be paying a copay as much as $40k. At worst it could cost almost $200k. <br /><br />The most important thing here is that <strong>Page</strong> is healthy and gets her quality of life back. I want to see that girl that has the contagious laugh flourish. <br /><br />She and her parents, Mike and Heather need your help. Any bit will help. She is so loved that we have faith this will workout but footwork is also needed. From the bottom of all of our hearts thank you. And PLEASE make this go viral. Namaste
