I am due to return to university this September after having to drop out previously. I am stuck in an accommodation contract I cannot escape, despite not being able to live there because of constant loud noises from the pipes. It became impossible to sleep and seriously affected my mental and physical health. Even though I was not living there, I have still been required to pay £2,600 per term, and the landlord has refused to release me. According to Student Finance, I was only entitled to around £2,000, but my rent for just one term was £2,600. I had to use the £4,900 I received to cover rent and basic living costs across 2 terms, and now I am being asked to repay it by September 2026. If I cannot, it will be deducted from my future funding, leaving me with only about £5,000 to live on for the academic year of 2026-27. I do not have family support, and the university hardship fund will not be enough. I am trying to rebuild my life and return to my studies, but I cannot do it alone. Any support or shares would mean so much. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
