This is Rue. Our miracle baby. She was born at 34 weeks along with her twin, Peri. Rue has Torticollis (one neck muscle is shorter than the other, and therefore it hurts to turn her neck to the side). This was due to the lack of space while in the womb. It was undiscovered, and therefore untreated for over 7 months. Because of this, she has also developed Plagiocephaly (or severe flat head). Rue's pediatrician, plastic surgeon, and physical therapist all agree that a cranial helmet is necessary for Rue. If left untreated, it will cause her right ear to move, her right forehead to protrude, and also possible sight, jaw, hearing, and brain development problems. Unfortunately, after many appeals, our insurance is unwilling to pay for the surgery. They feel it is unnecessary at this time. If left untreated, Rue's skull plates will fuse incorrectly. At that time, our insurance is willing to pay for cranial surgery (repositioning of her skull), and THEN they will pay for a helmet. Rue's daddy is in the military, and Rue's mommy left her job as a teacher to become a full time mom, so funds are tight--and the bills just keep piling up. We are working hard to try and raise money for our sweet baby. But she needs to helmet within the next month in order for it to be treated successfully--so that is why we are asking for donations. Any little bit will help. But if nothing else, please share our sweet girls story.
