Our friends recently moved to their new home and had finally settled into this wonderful space when tragedy struck. Not many of us got to experience this home they created but it was a magical little spot that has been taken away all too soon. They are fortunately safe and for that we are extremely thankful.

<div>My name is Angel. I was halfway through finishing my degree when my adoptive family kicked me out for being "too transgender" to have around their children. I have been told by strangers, coworkers, and family members alike that being trans is a disease, contagious, and downright sinful.
</div>
<div>In 2022, one of my best friends, a trans woman, was interning at the legislative session where they passed HB11, where they banned trans women from playing in school sports, then overruled the governor's veto on the bill to make sure it passed anyway. There was nothing she could do, even in the same room as the people signing these laws spat vinegar at each other about people like her.
</div>
<div>In 2023, Utah banned transgender healthcare for minors with SB16.
</div>
<div>In 2024, this past year, lawmakers like Kera Birkeland passed bill HB257, "Sex-based Designations for Privacy, Anti-bullying and Women’s Opportunities". Which is a misnomer. HB 257 bars transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people from accessing privacy spaces and other facilities in public schools and government owned or controlled spaces. Meaning most of Utah, as many buildings are owned by the government or the church.

<div>Ever since the election results in November, my pharmacy's computer system has switched back to deadnaming me. I had a legal name change years ago.
</div>
<div>In 2025, I'm scared what they will do next.

<div>My roommate and I are transgender lesbians living in the very very VERY Mormon state of Utah. We (and our 2 big fluffy orange cats!!) are not optimistic about the future here in Utah and what it may bring. We are dirt poor and have no family we are able to rely on for help. Rent and bills take up all our money, and this last year I had a huge medical emergency that I still cant afford to be paying....

<div>I have a place to go, with many long time friends, and my girlfriend, across the country, where we can be safe, and hopefully not just survive, but thrive!

<div>We need to be able to afford a Uhaul, rental car, gas money for the drive, pet and human food, pet carriers for our cats, and boxes for the move.

<div>We also need help affording the first month's rent and deposit on the place. We can barely afford our own rent, and saving up is impossible with all the bills we have on our plate. When we move, we will have to lose all our furniture and most of our belongings to do this in the most cost-effective way, and start entirely from scratch when we arrive. There will be so many fees I probably don't even KNOW about. This will be my first move across the country, and I'm scared. I want to be prepared for what's to come.

<div>I did a lot of research and found between everything, our safe estimation should be around 6K USD in order to move everything and everyone safe and sound, and to ensure we are stable while we find jobs in our new location.

<div>At the age of seven, I already knew I was a girl. I grew up in Germany, but my childhood was cut short. My father was heavily abusive, enough so that my mom feared deeply enough for my life to flee the country with me, and bring me to the United States. Following this, she spiraled into a deep depression. It didn't take long for my mom to self-medicate by any means available. I've been starved, abused, abandoned, homeless, and so on. I'd rather not be direct, but I’m a survivor.

<div>I live in a red state, which is dangerous enough in and of itself, let alone without a mask to hide my face, for fear of harassment, violence, or worse.

<div>As most people do, I work far too much for far too little pay. 45 hour weeks are common, but my employer doesn’t even provide me with health insurance, let alone a living wage. I thought I could do this on my own, but the cost of living here is so high that I’m only ever treading water at best, and I’ve had no choice but to do desperate things to get by.

<div>Since the start of my transition, in October 2020, I've found and achieved my feminine voice, entirely on my own! I've also volunteered over a hundred hours inspiring and tutoring other trans femmes to find their voices. Voice training can be very difficult, but I can’t let these girls give up, because being properly gendered is often critical to our survival.

<div>Thanks to my feminine voice, people correctly gender me, but only if I'm wearing a mask. I'm tired of only feeling safe in public with a mask on. I can't wear it forever. I know that the day will come when I have to show my face, and it terrifies me.

<div>I want to be able to look in the mirror, and not only see the girl that I've always been, but no longer cry myself to sleep most nights over what's looking back at me.
