My friend Al has faced unimaginable challenges this year. After an unexpected medical crisis, he lost both of his legs. With no family to turn to, my husband and I have stepped in to help him as much as we can. For the past year, we've been doing everything possible to keep Al in his home, even working extra jobs delivering food on our days off. Despite our best efforts, it's become increasingly difficult to support two households, especially as Al waits for his disability application to be approved. Al hasn't been able to work for two years, and we've struggled to find any assistance for him. Our two 16-year-old boys have also given up their time to help, sacrificing moments with us so we can work enough to cover both rents. While there is no tangible obligation, I feel a deep responsibility as a human being to stand by Al and not leave him to face this alone. He is a proud man who never likes to ask for help, so I'm reaching out on his behalf. Please help me stop my friend from losing more than just his legs.
