He's an avid cyclist who loves sharing miles with friends, and his home has become a gathering place where neighbors and loved ones are always welcomed around the dinner table or a backyard fire. Cain has spent his life building community by simply showing up for the people around him.

<div>Recently, their lives changed in an instant. Cain was diagnosed with cancer that has already spread to other parts of his body. While he and his family are facing this diagnosis with incredible strength and determination, the road ahead will be long and filled with uncertainty.

<div>As Cain begins treatment, the Hickey family is facing overwhelming medical expenses, travel to specialists, medications, lost income, and countless unexpected costs that come with a diagnosis like this. Yesterday my family unexpectedly lost a wonderful mom, sister, aunt, daughter, sister-in-law, and friend. She was an amazing woman who would do anything for anyone and a wonderful single mother to her two daughters, they were her world. She was strong for her girls and her family; loving, kind, giving, selfless, and compassionate. Stephanie will be missed by everyone who knew her. <br /><br />She was involved in a car accident on Monday morning on her way to work. She has left behind a 20 year old daughter, who is now bearing the burden of planning her mothers funeral, and trying to step up and raise her 14 year old sister. <br /><br />This account is for them, and whatever they may need during this time, to help them put food on the table, clothes in their backs and keep them together. <br /><br />Anyone who is willing and able to donate, even a few dollars, will help these girls out immensly during this very difficult time. They are good kids, and will be forever grateful for everyone's generosity.<br /><br /><br />Stephanie will be forever loved and in our hearts, she made everyone around her smile with her bubbly personality and ability to brighten the darkest days. Hello.  We are the Majczyk family from Millcreek, PA.   During the May 11th storm, we lost our home of the past 9 years to a "down burst".  It was enough pressure to knock down a VERY large maple tree in our side yard.  That tree landed on the front of our house and sheared off the gas line.  The fire department had to evacuate our neighbors while fighting a fire the next street over.  5 homes total in our neighborhood were destroyed during this storm.  It may only have been a trailer, but to my 3 kids, husband and myself, it was our home.  We raised our children here.  We know we may never have our "home" back due to the amount of damage.  We unfortunately had to cut back on our budget last year when my husband and myself both got laid off.  One of the ways we cut back was by cancelling our insurance, along with many other things.  We are both back working, and finally were getting caught back up financially.   However, we only got our bills caught up and started living "comfortably" about a month ago.  We did not get the insurance again yet.....and there is no emergency savings.  So we find ourselves here in a hotel room, so happy to just have each other, thankful that everyone is alive and safe, pets included, but realizing we will soon be homeless.  In a flash everything can be taken away.  Any help would be appreciated by our family.

A tree took our home

<br />There is no set "goal" amount. Whatever people can afford even if it's a dollar it's greatly appreciated! <br /><br />Sophia went to be with the Lord Feb. 26th, 2014.. two days shy of her 1st Birthday.<br /><br />    Sophia was born premature via c-section at 35 weeks due to almost no amniotic fluid. The Dr's thought by looking at all the different sonograms we had done that Sophia's ureter (tube going to the kidney) had a kink or obstruction- They wanted to take her early because they were afraid if they didn't that she would be stillborn. When Sophia was born she was barely breathing and was placed on a ventilator. She also is having some bowel issues and urinary issues.. She was born with one kidney, the kidney she has is cystic and we then found out that the kidney isn't functioning. She has underwent 16 surgeries already and will need more including a kidney transplant down the line, she also receives dialysis treatments everyday. Sophia wears oxygen because due to the low amniotic fluid (babies use the fluid to wash their lungs with while in the womb) and her lungs were born a little smaller. <br /><br />UPDATE: Sophia has been in the PICU for 3 months now fighting for her life after getting RSV. She has coded 3 times now, but is fighting through it all. She will remain in the PICU for quite some time. The family could use help, they have alot of medical bills- They are staying at Ronald Mcdonald house etc. Thank you!<br /><br /><br />Sophia's parents were so excited to be expecting a daughter, they had lost twin boys in August 2011 due to Mom's water breaking and delivering prematurely at 20 weeks... so this makes Sophia a little miracle for them. Mom was temporary living in Erie,PA to help very sick elderly family members when Sophia was born. They lived over 2 1/2 hours away from Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh where Sophia was for her first 2 months of life and they stayed at the Ronald Mcdonald house next to the hospital. Sophia was transported back to were her family lives in Northern Virginia. Mom drives a total of 420+ miles a week to ensure she is with Sophia daily at the childrens hospital she is in. Sophia so far has been in the hospital her entire life (6 months) The Dr's will not do a transplant on Sophia until she is at least 1 1/2 or 2 years of age (until she is big and healthy enough) Even through all the different things this family has been through they are still positive, they have faith and know God has big plans for Sophia and their family! There is a lot of medical bills,expenses, etc. will need to be covered and they can use all the help they can get! Thank you and God bless.
