<div>Hello. My name is Lillian and my daughter Rebecca and I are fundraising for Mildred Del Carmen and her family. Mildred is my sister-in-law and Rebecca's aunt. It is with a heavy heart that we ask for assistance during Mildred's battle with cancer.

<div>In late April 2024, Mildred went to Baptist Urgent Care in Miami due to shortness of breath. She was told it was pneumonia and that she had fluid in her lungs. She was told to go to the ER immediately at Jackson South on April 27th.

<div>After numerous tests and procedures, they unfortunately determined her symptoms were due to cancer. Her blood work and biopsy results confirmed it was Stage 4 ovarian cancer. She has pleural effusion in the area around her pleural cavity around her lungs. Fluid has to be drained about every other day from around her lungs so she can breathe comfortably. Lab work for the fluid accumulation also showed there were malignant cancer cells in the fluid buildup. Doctors stated the cancer had metastasized and it was advanced. Her family is devastated and heartbroken.

<div>After a two week stay at Jackson South, Mildred was discharged and was able to be home for Mother’s Day. However, on Monday, May 13th, she did not feel well due to shortness of breath and checked herself in to Baptist Hospital in Miami. On Friday, May 17, 2024, Mildred had extensive surgery which lasted almost 3 hours. They performed a hysterectomy and also removed a considerable amount of the apron like organ called the Omentum. Her surgeon stated there was a lot of cancer, but the surgery went well. He was able to remove as much cancer as he could.

<div>On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the doctor’s team recommended for Mildred to start chemotherapy. Mildred is unable to work at this time. Her husband has had to take extensive time off from work to help care for Mildred, their two daughters, and his elderly parents. Bills are piling up and this is only the beginning of this long battle with cancer.

Update 08/19/25<br />My Health Journey: <br />A Testament of Resilience<br /> Life has a way of challenging us in ways we never expect. My health journey has been a rollercoaster, marked by multiple battles with cancer and the toll it has taken on my body and spirit. 

It all began with a kidney tumor, a shocking diagnosis that led to the discovery of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Just when I thought I had faced the worst, my fight continued with multiple myeloma. Each diagnosis brought new challenges, but I was determined to persevere.

The treatments have been grueling. I've undergone quadruple bypass heart surgery, wrestled with diabetes, and faced severe joint disease affecting my hips, spine, hands, and ribs. Most recently, I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, which has added yet another layer of pain and discomfort to my daily life. 

Beyond the physical toll, the financial strain has been devastating. I’ve had to sell everything of value—my home, my business, my jewelry, and even my cherished guitar collection. My retirement accounts are gone, leaving me with nothing but the will to survive and my faith to guide me through this darkest of times.

As I look to the future, I'm at a critical juncture in my treatment. I need to complete a final cycle of medication, which comes with enormous copayments, before I can move on to CAR T-cell therapy. This therapy holds the promise of not just extended life but the chance to live it more comfortably. Following that, I will need lifelong maintenance drugs to help me manage my condition.

This is where I need your help. I am reaching out to my community, asking for support as I navigate these next steps in my journey. Your support means the world to me.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />***UPDATE***05/16/2024The countdown is on Entering the 12th month of partial Remission!! I wanted to share with all my friends and family who are still here by my side, fighting with me. Through your prayers, love, &amp; support, I am still here. There is good news and bad news to share but the way I see it, every day I wake up is a win!! I am approaching the end of the 12th month of partial remission and after the 28th of this month I will do another bloodwork that hopefully will confirm that all my blood markers have remained stable and improved. With no sign of cancer present. The only issue I’ve had this month is not being able to afford these last 10 days of meds, I literally took the last pill this morning, and have no resources to get the rest. So I decided to sell, &amp; pawn whatever I own of value. Literally recorded the last songs with my guitars so I can sell &amp; pay for my treatments. Don’t worry I’m not asking for any donations, those who can and want to you know how to!  The bad news is that the cancer has done its damage, myeloma affects the bones. The fracture in my Ribs, Hip, S/I Joint, hands, sternum and now my spine are more prevalent than ever. The pain is quite unbearable and I have to prepare for what’s ahead. The fight isn’t over yet!!!  I have numerous compression fractures in my spine and have been diagnosed with vertebral metastases. I will need a surgical procedure called Cement augmentation, where they fill in the fracture cracks to help relieve the pain temporarily, also I am seeking a new surgeon to fix my left hand which never healed properly. Alyiasia Pastora turned 15 on October 24th and spent the weekend with close family and friends. Just 2 days after her 15th birthday she was involved in a terrible accident that left her on life support for the next 11 days until she passed away. Her loss has broken so many hearts and has left the family unable to function properly or focus on work. There are no words that can help repair our family during this unexpected loss of such a young beautiful woman who still had so much life left to live. Alyi and her Mother Summer were inseparable, the best of friends and did everything together, so this pain has been unbearable for her and the rest of the family. Alyi also has a younger brother who is currently 5 years old who needs their parents to be able to have enough time to mourn the loss of their daughter, maybe get some counselling if needed to help them learn how to cope with their loss so they can be fully there for him as well. <br /><br />We know that everyone has been hit one way or another with COVID and understand it isn’t easy to help financially. But even the smallest donation can make a difference and if you can also share the link with others we would greatly appreciate it as well. <br /><br />Please help us raise enough money to help the parents of Alyi get the time they need to mourn without having the financial burden of the hospital bills, funeral cost and their day to day bills for the upcoming months to come.
