Hi, my name is Gabe Sharpe and I have been specially selected to go on an expedition with Ullswater Community College, to the island of Madagascar in June 2027, the expedition will last 2 weeks!
'Operation Wallacea' is a two week long research and conservation trip, it's not a holiday! as we'll be working alongside scientists making a real difference. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, will build confidence, independence and teamwork.
In the first week of the trip we will be staying in a dry forest site called Mariarano and doing 3 surveys daily! on birds, mammals and arachnids as well as many species of plants. Over 90% of the plants and animals found in Madagascar are endemic, meaning they are found no where else in the world!
In the second and final week we will be staying at a marine site which is on an island called Nosy Be just off mainland Madagascar. In this week we will take part in scuba diving training and learning how to track and record marine life and coral through different types of surveys.

The expedition cost covers research equipment, local conservation support, accommodation, travel, and training. It’s a significant amount (around £4500 in total) , which is why I’m fundraising to help make this opportunity possible.
Any donation would mean so much, no matter how big or small!
