Help Miesha Brown fight racial hate crimes

Hurricane Ida’s terrible winds tore off siding and weakened the foundation of Debbie and Curtis Watler’s house in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. Due to the age of the house, the structure is barely standing.


 


Ms Debbie's family has owned the house since 1958. Debbie and Curtis are pillars of the Treme community and are always the first to support neighbors, their church and every other person who knocks on their door. They are incredible people.


 


Our goal is to shore up the home so that it is structural enough to be a safe environment. Debbie turns 70 this year and I want to make sure she can stay in her beloved home, with her community, for the rest of her days.


 


They do not have home or flood Insurance.


 


With their permission, and because they are too humble to create a GoFundMe themselves, we are raising funds to help them fix their siding, shore up the foundation so that in future storms they will be safe.


 


Ursulines Ave in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans in an incredibly supportive community. Most of our neighbors are in their 60's and 70's and grew up on this street playing together as children. Another neighbor in the area paid 10,000 dollars of her own money last year to help the Watler’s restructure a portion of their home and that is probably the only reason the house didn’t fall down in Ida.


 


On September 8th they will celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary, possibly still without power.

Hello, community! One of our own needs your help in the form of monetary support. After a shift at his beloved Driftwood Sunday evening (May 9th), Paul left the bar on his bike. He was hit by a car in the intersection of Folsom &amp; 18th, and suffered numerous injuries including a broken clavicle, broken ribs, brain swelling and minor internal bleeding. His condition is stable and non-life threatening, but his head injury is very serious. Paul will not be able to work or support himself for an undetermined amount of time, and will likely need rehabilitation and ongoing care for months to come. We need your help to get him through this. There is an account on Meal Train to schedule a visit to see him while he is in the hospital. Due to covid restrictions there is a 2 person limit a day, so we ask that you schedule a visit through the website in orderto allow everyone an opportunity to see Paul. It has been almost a year since we successfully raised almost $6000 to help our beloved <a href="http://MARCELLAKROLL.COM" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marcella Kroll</a> cover the first round of procedures in the costly oral surgery she needs.  Her second (and hopefully final!) surgery is scheduled for May 8, 2020, and so I am once again, creating the space for her to receive community support for the care she needs and deserves. This GoFundMe is for Russ Murawski.  He lost his house in the California Butte Fire.  It was only a year that he lost his partner Robert. "Hello Friends! We are rallying on behalf of our dear friend and Hole in the Wall Howlers teammate, Darrel Mortimer. On may 5, on his way home from a pool tournament, he encountered an assault by three young men on an elderly gentleman in the vicinity of 10th Street and Jessie Alley. Being the man he is, Darrel stepped in to thwart the attack of the elderly man. In the process of trying to ward off the assault, the attackers turned on Darrel and beat him severely, resulting in his being hospitalized with serious injuries to his abdomen. A complication at the hospital has also occurred, which will extend Darrel's hospitalization and healing time, rendering him unable to work for the foreseeable future. At this time, while his biggest concern should be healing and getting back to his life, he is troubled deeply by his situation of lost work and wages, as he is self-employed and lives alone. It's for this reason that we are establishing this Go Fund Me campaign, to alleviate his stress and allow him the peace of mind necessary for a full recovery. Our campaign goal is $5000, to help offset the costs of Darrel's rent and bills while he recovers. We ask, on behalf of our friend and teammate, that you dig deep and support our effort to the extent that you're willing and able, so that when he's finally released from the hospital, he will have the funds necessary to cover the expenses that will be there waiting for him. On June 13, 2015 at 8:22 am, our warrior went home to be with God. He lived an amazing life. In the 12 years that he spent with his family and friends, he made sure that everyone he came across with whether family or friends, that they are always happy and taken care of. And the past 14 months during his journey and battle, not once did he complained or gave up. He fought to the end.... And he WON! He left this earth with peace in his heart and a smile. A beautiful smile that we will always remember him by whenever we think of him. Please remember our Christopher by advocating for childhood cancer funding or share his story of courage to kids who may need that little boost to accomplish a goal that they are struggling with. Lastly, Aaron and I truly appreciate all of you who have been there for our Christopher, and our family, throughout this journey. Your prayers, thoughts, messages, phone calls, shoulders to cry on, meal deliveries, smiling faces, and just the simple hellos were a tremendous help and comfort for us. Christopher (lilbeatpusher) is an amazing 11 year old who is loved by many, especially his siblings.  He is a very active boy who loves outdoor activities, including his training to be a boxer.  His world changed after a visit to the emergency room at Manteca Doctor's Hospital on March 30, 2014.  Chris experienced some muscle weakness on his right arm and leg for a couple of weeks prior to his visit to the emergency room.  After a CT Scan, the ER doctor informed us that they had found a "mass" in his brain.  Chris was transported to Oakland Children's Hospital on March 30, 2014.  He underwent an abrasive brain surgical biopsy, several MRI's and CT Scans, IV treatments, and numerous blood tests.  And on April 11, 2014 he was diagnosed with an inoperable Stage 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma brain cancer.  Due to the nature of the tumor, surgery is not an option at this time.  Because the tumor is growing rapidly and is very aggressive, which results in major pressure in his brain, it causes his right side to be partially paralyzed and short and long term memory loss. Chris is scheduled to undergo an aggressive treatment of radiation in conjunction with chemotherapy for 5 days a week for a total of 6 weeks, and 1 year of chemotherapy.  Chris will also undergo physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy for as long as he needs it.  We are praying that with the marvelous neurology team, advanced oncology treatments, and amazing family and friends praying and keeping a positive attitude and outlook that the radiation and chemo will shrink his tumor down.   The hospital that he will be receiving his treatments from is at Oakland Children's Hospital, which is 130 miles roundtrip from our home.  His current medical insurance will cover some of his medical cost for his treatments and therapies, however there will be remaining out-of-pocket medical costs that will not be covered.  There will also be transportation, possible hotel stays, food, and other medical items that he will need for therapy that will all add up.  During this time, Chris will be homeschooled and will need a lot of assistance from us.   We would greatly appreciate any donations through this site or personally.  We would gladly accept gift cards for gas, food, and/or hotel nights, etc.  And if you can also donate any items to help Chris with his therapy, we would be very grateful. On August 28th, the “Black Life Matters Ride,” an initiative of ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬, will bring activists and professionals of color from across the country to Ferguson, Missouri, as part of a national call to end state sanctioned violence against Black people. We are a coalition of volunteer medics, community organizers, cultural workers, artists, media specialists, counselors, and legal professionals (from the Greater Bay Area) and we will provide on-the-ground support to the Ferguson community. AGENDA: Aug 28th and 29th: Travel days Aug 30th and 31st: Solidarity march and local community engagement efforts coordinated with local community members Aug 31st: Establish next steps and key action items in the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Riders return to their communities ready to organize within their local networks. YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL BE USED TO HELP: 1. FERGUSON FREEDOM RIDE BAY AREA

Marcella Kroll received some of the worst news anyone could ever get, her father has suffered a horrific motorcycle accident. He is in the hospital in ICU unconscious with not a very good prognosis. I can't imagine this happening to a loved one of mine and being across the country as Marcella is in LA and her father is in VA. There have been numerous efforts to find her a last minute flight to VA so that she may say her final goodbyes to her dad. Unfortunately even with medical family emergency discount the expenses are quite exuberant and not realistic for one to come with last minute.  I ask that you please donate any amount that you can afford to help fund Marcella's travel expenses at this very very difficult time. The time has come where the Dr. and Hospital bills are adding up to treat my Mom's Cholangiocarcinoma (Cancer of Bile Ducts). I want my mom to feel like she did in this picture again!! We met with her oncologist today and were informed that all the past chemo treaments and radiation have not been successful. BUT there is still hope! She has been recommended/approved to use a new expiramental drug that is a match with her genetic mutations! It has been super succesfull with other patients who have melanoma. Her cancer is super rare so they are very excited to try this on her. We are not even sure what the cost of this medicine will be yet but it won't be cheap. We have the love and support of many family members and friends who have been there throughout this long and draining process. We appreciate every single one of you!
