<p>Hello, my name is Khala. Around midnight on June 11th/12th, I was awoken from sleep and assaulted beyond recognition by my mother and brother. After going to the hospital, I learned that my face was fractured. I was kicked out of the house I was paying to live in, and subsequently lost my new job due to the assault. Now, I am without a home or occupation for no good reason.

<p>This traumatic event has left me struggling to find stability and safety. I am working hard to rebuild my life, but the challenges are overwhelming. I am seeking support to help cover the costs of medical treatment for my injuries and to secure a safe place to live. Your kindness will make a real difference as I try to move forward and heal from this experience.

Support Khala's Recovery and New Start

<div>On Friday night 10/25/2024, my mom, Gloria Martinez-Granados, made a split second mistake that anyone could make. She simply cut her hand on a knife while doing the dishes.

<div>My mother rushed to the ER when she discovered that she was completely unable to move her ring finger and half of her pinky, with little movement in her other fingers as well. This morning on 10/28/2024, we received the unfortunate news that she would need surgery because of two severed tendons in her hand.

<div>Gloria is the most talented mom I could have ever asked for. Currently showing her cross-stitch piece titled "Retratro de Pablo" and her other cross-stitch piece titled "My Mother's Hands" at the Phoenix Art Museum, she is a hardworking artist who has created impact across multiple communities through her art. Though hardworking or not, art-making continues to be a difficult career to pursue because of the lack of financial stability.

<div>As an emerging artist, movement of her hand, especially her dominant one, is necessary to create the intricately detailed work that she makes. She has tirelessly pursued her passion despite the financial sacrifices she has been forced to make, such as a lack of health insurance.

<div>After spending her life serving her community, we now must unfortunately ask that same community to help support her and the many years she has to come of creating space for dialogue through her artwork.

<div>All of the funds will go towards her ER bills, surgeons fee, facility fees, anesthesiologist fees, follow-up appointments, and physical therapy that is necessary for a full recovery post-surgery.

<div>This type of injury requires quick attention before any permanent damage begins to occur. We have a goal of raising this money by Wednesday night in hopes of being able to afford the surgery on Thursday.

<div>On July 15, 2024, Crystal Marie noticed she was experiencing difficulty breathing. After a visit to her local Urgent Care, she received the unfortunate news that there is an abnormal growth near her heart—<strong>a mediastinal tumor growing in the space between her heart and sternum</strong>. Initially, doctors thought there might be blood clots causing her to have trouble breathing, but further tests revealed a far more serious condition. Something far beyond what we could have imagined. Far beyond what we are prepared for.

<div>Crystal has since been referred to “No Sleepless Nights,” a program for <strong>possible cancer patients triggered by abnormal diagnostic imaging findings.</strong>
</div>
<div>6 days later, A PET scan was scheduled, and the results were alarming. <strong><em>The growth was confirmed as abnormal, and further testing, including a biopsy and blood work, is urgently needed to determine the exact nature of the mass. </em></strong>The possibility of it being “nothing” is no longer an option, and it has become painfully clear to Crystal, her husband Keenan, her chosen son Aireus, and myself - that she is not okay.

<div><strong>In just 2 weeks, the mass has grown by 2 cm</strong>, <strong>and her doctors have admitted her to the hospital.</strong> The biopsy, which will now take place today, August 2nd, and additional bloodwork will hopefully provide a clear diagnostic and next steps.

<div><em>Why We Need Your Help:</em>

<div>Before this, Crystal was already dealing with a herniated disc and recently diagnosed liver disease, which has impacted her ability to work full time. She has been in treatment and as a result, is unable to work full time. With the newest developments, the financial strain is becoming overwhelming for Crystal and her family.

<div>Admittedly, Crystal is scared, and so are we. As we wait for a proper diagnosis, we are seeking support during this frightening time. <strong>We are asking our community for support to help her and her family navigate this difficult time. The funds raised will be used to cover:</strong>
