Who this fundraiser is for
This fundraiser is for Dahab Sahara, a women-led cooperative in southern Morocco, supported by David Gordon of evanhealy, Stefan Hauke of World Artisan Guild, and Mohamed El Karz, also known as Simo, of Argand’Or Co. Dahab Sahara was created to help women build something lasting that they will truly own and run: a regenerative argan and cactus farm on 13 acres of empty farmland. The need is urgent because southern Morocco’s argan ecosystem is deteriorating under pressure from deforestation, soil desertification, and overharvesting. At the same time, women in rural villages who have traditionally produced argan oil are losing access to fruit and income as commercial traders buy entire harvests in advance. This threatens one of the few dependable sources of livelihood available to many women and puts both the land and their future at risk.
This project offers a different path forward. Funds will help Dahab Sahara turn unused land into a women-owned farm by covering drip irrigation and water filtration, argan seedlings and planting, soil preparation and organic fertilizer, fencing, goats, hens, a small barn, equipment, transport, and cactus plants. The cooperative will own and run the farm, and the harvest and income will stay with the women and their community. Funds raised through this campaign will be paid to World Artisan Guild LLC, run by Stefan Hauke in the US, and then sent directly to Argand’Or Co., the Moroccan company led by Mohamed El Karz, who is managing the project on the ground. Receipts and photos will be shared as each part of the budget is spent, and supporters can follow along for updates from planting day, the first harvests, and the cooperative as it grows. Please donate if you can, and if you cannot, sharing this page would mean so much. Thank you for helping these trees, and these women, put down roots.
