My name is Joshua, and I am a single father raising my son and doing everything I can to hold our family together. I am starting this fundraiser because there have been a string of setbacks that have come too fast in succession for us to recover from. After I was hit in a car accident, our vehicle was declared a total loss, but I still owe $19,000 on it. That car was not just transportation for us. It also helped me earn income through rideshare/delivery work while I work part time at a job that provided affordable healthcare for my son and me. While still trying to deal with the details of the accident, my fiancée lost her job, which had been the primary income for our household. We have been struggling to keep up with rent and basic needs since the car accident, this new blow will be a hard to recover from.
We moved to this area just over a year ago so my son could attend a certain charter school he was selected for being special needs. This is a great opportunity and being able to give that to him means so much to me. We were already trying to rebuild after leaving a toxic family living situation and going through an illegal eviction a year ago. For the first time, I have been able to give my son a stable family environment and a good school, and I am terrified of him losing that after already losing so much. The support from this fundraiser will help us pay rent, give us time to recover our income, address the debt owed on the totaled vehicle if possible, and help buy us time to find work so I can continue to stabilize our income and situation.
It is very hard for me to ask for help. I have never received child support and owed $68,000 in arears, I have never asked for help or this kind of support, or financial aid from DES or state until recently, and have always tried helped others. If you are able to give, share, or support us in any way, it would mean more than I can say. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping us hold on to the life we are trying so hard to finaly build.
I fear eviction and not being able to find a safe area to live, with a safe neighborhood and school for my son.
Credit is as important as Income nowadays and ours has taken some bad hits.
