My good friends, Evan Reiss &amp; Amy Harrity (and their two beautiful kids, Frankie and Rosalie) have been displaced by the devastating Eaton Fire in Altadena. Their house is still standing, but it is severely damaged, and they face a long, expensive road as they get their lives back together. In the family's words:

She's had a lot of success since then, and has developed her own unique style. Evan is a gifted musician and songwriter. I've been a fan of all his projects and, in recent years, I've had the pleasure of playing bass and singing harmonies in his latest project. Little Frankie and Rosalie loved the house and played in the yard every day.

Altadena Fire Relief for Evan and Amy

<div>In January 2023, our dear friend Heather was hit by a drunk driver while at a stop light in Los Angeles. Driver was going 60 mph. Rental car she was driving had horrible insurance - covered zero medical, etc. and drunk driver did not have adequate assets/policy to cover medical costs. 5 days later, Heather was let-go from her job (a new job, a trial period). She therefore did not qualify for unemployment.

<div>She was concussed and sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Due to financial circumstances, she was forced to move to sub-par housing and is now being treated for mold poisoning which is debilitating for her nervous system. Treatments take time are out-of-pocket and expensive.

<div>Heather cannot read for more than 10 mins per hour and her comprehension has been affected (and therefore cannot work) due to TBI and cannot do physical labor due to acquiring PoTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) after brain injury.  Also fatigue and chronic pain, as an autoimmune has been set off from the trauma.

<div>She is finally in concussion rehab after months of self advocating. She is under the care of a neurologist and is being treated for SiBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth connected to nervous system stress and leaky gut). weight-loss, severe IBS, nutritional deficiencies. She is in critical need of financial and community support to heal.

<div>Heather began the process to receive disability almost a year ago; it is a difficult and slow process and if received it is but a fraction of the cost of living in ny, and there is a high chance to be denied due to the invisibility of her disabilities.

<div>Her temporary housing ends in a few weeks and she is facing houselessness. She has been separated from her beloved cat, Bird, her emotional-support buddy. 
</div>

<div>Heather needs funding/support for: mold-free housing, food, transportation to docs (concussion rehab etc.), co-pays,  out-of-pocket IVs and prescriptions. She is deeply dedicated to her healing and is a spiritual warrior. For those of you artists out there, Heather is one of us. She is a profoundly gifted writer, performer, comedienne, has built a beautiful body of work and was deep in process when the accident occurred. She wants dearly to return to her work and life.

<div>Hi, my name is Claire, and I’ve been a friend of Maria Yagoda for the last decade. Two weeks ago, Maria checked into the ER for what she believed to be symptoms of an ear infection and a swollen lymph node in her neck, just in case they would irritate her during the 17-hour plane ride she had planned to take for work later that week. The doctor easily discerned it wasn’t an ear infection, and poking and prodding of Maria’s body progressed with urgency from there on out: excision of the entire lymph node, a biopsy of tissue, and a PET scan later, <strong>Maria was given the diagnosis of advanced Hodgkin lymphoma</strong>, a cancer where white blood cells grow out of control and cause swollen nodes across the lymphatic system.

<div>Since her diagnosis, Maria’s appointments with NYU-Langone have been ongoing, most notably yesterday, when she visited a surgeon to have a chemo port connected to a vein installed in her chest. Now, starting next week (April 6), Maria will begin aggressive chemo treatment to kill the cancer, which is in her lungs and has traveled to her spleen. She’ll undergo 12 sessions, each lasting about five hours, every other week for 24 weeks (six months). There may be more treatment after that.

<div>If you know Maria, then you understand that she’s handling this terrible news with her signature fearlessness, droll sense of humor, and total mental clarity about the various humiliations, trials, and tribulations we must undergo to live in human bodies. <div>Maria has two months of full-paid leave at work but will have to continue working through <strong>the last four months of her chemotherapy with disability accommodations that reduce her pay. Maria</strong> lives alone, and will also require car service both ways to her treatment in Manhattan, plus a dog walker for Bucatina during and after treatment, food delivery on and after chemo days, and funds for over-the-counter pain relief and comfort. <strong>Maria has already spent $4,000 in the last two weeks on appointments.</strong>

<div>Joe and Shannon met in the San Francisco Bay area music scene in the late 2000s, where they collaborated with dozens of artists and helped build the vibrant music scene that flourished there. Years later, after Joe had returned home to work on his family farm outside of Portland, Oregon, Shannon and Joe began a long-distance romance that would lead Shannon to relocate to Portland, where they fell fully in love. They traveled the world playing music together, loved board games, dinner parties, barbecuing, swimming and watching their friends’ babies grow up. Joe proposed to Shannon in 2021 and their wedding was scheduled for November 2022. They had planned to raise a family of their own and spend their lives together. Tragically, Joe passed away on the morning of August 16th 2022 in a sudden fatal car crash outside of his family's farm.

<div>Shannon is completely shattered by this loss and unprepared to do this alone. The death of a partner or family member is devastating, and the financial stresses that follow can impede and complicate the grieving process and overwhelm the ones left behind. Shannon needs our support & love

<div>Hi, Nicole and Kaleb here. Our sweet baby Garmr had a tragic accident tonight. As we were letting her and Sid out a glass milk jug got knocked over and shattered on our back steps. Garmr came down directly on a jagged piece of glass causing a very large deep cut. We rushed her directly to the ER where she is currently undergoing surgery. We will be hearing back from the vet first thing in the morning and are hopeful that she will be okay! Our current bill is over $2800 and coming here to help alleviate the cost.

<div>Garmr's story: If you know Kaleb and I you know how much we love animals. We have 2 dogs, 4 cats, a rat, and a recuse chicken. We just finished our wildlife rehab classes and are volunteering with AWARE. At the end of the summer 2021 we heard about a group of two dogs and a few cats that were left behind by their previous owners in an empty apartment. Garmr was one of those dogs. We suspect she was previously abused as she had many scars, bites, and cuts that have since healed. She was also malnourished and pooping foam (we suspect she was eating furniture while left behind). We already had our male pittie, Sid, so we made arrangements to meet Garmr right away. It was love at first sight! Her and Sid got along so well on their first walk together and we knew she would fit right in. We took her home right away. We took her to our vet for a check up (thankfully a clean bill of health), got all her vaccines, and had her spayed. Shes silly, playful, and extremely loving despite all she's been through. She has become an integral part of our pack and we can't imagine our lives without her.

<div>In the middle of the night on October 5, 2021, Ra'Meka Cherry woke up to a raging fire in her Albany, New York home. She immediately woke up her four children Joseph, Jo'saad, Jo'Ve-on, and Jo'Rihanna Davis (ages 6-15) and alerted her first floor neighbor to get out of the house. Thankfully, everyone made it out of the building alive but the family lost almost all of their possessions in the fire and are currently without a permanent home. Along with necessities, they also lost items with sentimental value, including family photos.

<div>As Jo'saad's school social worker, I am asking that we pull together to help the family through this difficult time. Donations of any kind are appreciated as the family is seeking permanent housing and will need to replace their possessions including furniture, clothing and school supplies. <div>On March 11th, 2021 our sun Amen’Ra was forcefully taken from us by CPS, who claim we refused a B12 shot that was a matter of life and death, which is an absolute lie. We never refused a B12 shot, and at no point was he on the verge of death. Our Sun was then placed with a foster family without interviewing qualified relatives or friends of our family for placement while they investigate. He was later moved to another caretaker. At the time of being taken from us, he was 15 months old and I had recently discovered I was pregnant. My milk supply got low, and I went to Johns Hopkins All Children’s hospital to get some help, but was forcee left without my baby.

<div>On August 1, I gave birth, at home, to our beautiful happy and healthy baby girl. She ushered in so much peace to our hearts. We named her Ast, which means “the gathering/ coming together…” On August 11, while we were on our way to the Sheriff’s office to do a wellness check, we were surrounded by flashing lights and armed officers, who unjustly took Ast from me on the side of the road, exposing her to all kinds of dangers, with all these strangers around her. Now, I can’t bond with my babby girl and meditate with her on my chest, I can't hold my newborn daughter whenever she cries, or give her the breast milk that my body has produced for her very existence. My body feels when she is hungry, but I don't get to experience the joy of feeding her. I’m missing the most tender moments of her life. This is a nightmare and every second of every day until they Bring our Babies home.

<div>The racial discrimination that our community is facing right now is focused on Police Brutality because of the visibility and documentation. But we don’t think about the other forms of systematic oppression that come as a sub-set. In particular, the Victimization of our children through the Foster Care System. Born and raised in Togo, West Africa, Tina moved to California in 2003 to become a registered nurse. Always remembering her background in Togo, Tina has managed to support the education of over 120 girls annually back in Togo.<br /><br />In 2016, Peace Sisters was formally recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and it has since expanded to double the amount of girls in the program. Tina recognizes how much her own education has assisted her in accessing opportunities, and she has dedicated herself to extending this good fortune to as many young underprivileged Togolese girls as possible.<br /><br />Peace Sisters emphasizes the education of female students because impoverished Togolese families are often forced to make tough economic decisions. Parents frequently prioritize their sons when they cannot afford to send all of their children to school, and this leaves an imbalance when girls are deprived of educational opportunities that their brothers receive. Peace Sisters seeks to fill this educational gap with the understanding that the education of female students will ripple out and benefit Togolese society as a whole.

His passing was ruled a SIDS death, and Catharine and Nick suddenly found themselves without their angel that they were just getting to know. <br /><br />Facing this tragedy with incredible grace and depending strongly on each other as a couple, Catharine and Nick had just begun the grieving process, which included uplifting conversations of hope for the future, when horror struck again. One April 5th, 2016, Catharine found Nick deceased from a massive heart attack while the two were away together. She is now left without her son and without the love her life, all stripped away in less than a month’s time. We know Nick would be absolutely devastated knowing Catharine is grieving through this time of incredible loss without him by her side.<br /><br />We are hoping to reach our goal so that Catharine can have time to grieve these devastating losses (and have access to whatever helps her heal without worrying about living expenses and other financial concerns). This support will allow her to face the world when she is ready.
