Help Us Save Bali’s Street Dogs
72% complete- Help Us Save Bali’s Street Dogs! A few years ago in Bali, I met Elly - a family friend who lives locally and sees the reality of Bali’s street dog crisis every single day. When I was there on holiday myself, I couldn’t ignore it either. There was severe overpopulation, starving dogs, untreated infections, puppies being dumped, and local balinese families who love their dogs but simply can’t afford vet care. We went to local animal welfare organisations like BAWA but quickly learnt that they are completely overwhelmed, under-resourced, and often forced to euthanise dogs because there is no other option. This project started when we found a puppy on the street who was so malnourished you could see all her bones, had hardly any fur, and her collar was too tight on her that she was slowly choking the more she grew. We asked an organisation to help her but their only option was to euthanise her instead. Elly wasn’t ok with this and ended up taking her on and helping her become a beautiful, amazing, healthy dog. Her name is Poka and she is our mascot for this project. Many other expats have already rescued 1 or more dogs from the street, but there are so many more that need our help. This project was started to raise funds so Elly could directly help dogs in her area, paying for sterilisation, parasite treatment, food, and basic medical care. Elly is on the ground, every day, using her own money and donations, coordinating with vets, sterilisation programs, and local families. What your donations do With your support previously we have raised over $700 AUD, and have already helped so many dogs, including: Sterilising dogs to prevent more puppies being dumped Treating severe skin infections, ticks, fleas, worms, and parasites Providing food to starving street dogs Supporting group sterilisation days with local vets Educating local families on basic, affordable dog care Sterilisation costs as little as $45 AUD per animal, and a single parasite pill ($12 AUD) can completely transform a dog’s life. Please take a look at the photos to see what a massive difference just 1/4 of a parasite pill can make. Their fur grows back, scabs are gone, and look so much happier! Why we’re fundraising again Elly has continued helping dogs even after donations ran out, and has been using money out of her own pocket. While there’s been many dogs already helped, the problem still persists in Bali and I would love to help Elly and her close connections further with this goal of saving Bali dogs.
