<div>In November I am undertaking my Swim for Simon fundraiser challenge. You may be aware of the national campaign ‘Swim 10km in November’ for Cancer Research. My fundraiser is along those lines but I wanted something that would challenge me a little more, and hopefully persuade you to part with some pennies.
</div>
<div>So I’ve decided to swim 10km each WEEK in November instead. This equates to 500 laps of my local pool every week.

<div>I am raising money for the Give Simon Time campaign. Simon is a friend who was recently diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumour. Simon has a beautiful family, a wife (Stef) and 2 daughters (Ella and Nelle). Ella plays professional rugby with Harlequins, has represented England U18s in the Six Nations with a dream to play for the Red Roses one day. And with England Rugby calling her one of the rising stars of the women’s game, it’s not difficult to see that dream becoming a reality.

<div>Glioblastoma is incurable, but there are proven treatments, additional to those Simon is currently receiving, that can extend his life. But they are not available on the NHS or in the UK. Treatments include Immunotherapy and Optune. One stimulates the body’s immune system response against cancer cells and the other helps prevent the tumour from growing or spreading so quickly.

<div>These treatments can give Simon time. Time to spend with his family making more memories. And time for him to see Ella achieve her dream of playing for England’s Red Roses.

<div>We lost somebody who was very dear to me last year, only months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Your donation will help ensure that another family won’t lose a loved one too soon.

Swim for Simon

<div>Hi, my name is Ryan and I will be cycling the Pyrenees mountains coast to coast from Biarritz to Perpignan in September 2024 to help raise money for the 'Give Simon Time' campaign. It a Epic traverse of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean in 100 hours riding the 720km Raid Pyrenean route with 11,000m of ascent conquering many famous Tour de France climbs: Tourmalet, Aubisque, Jau, and more!

Give Simon Time - Coast 2 Coast Pyrenees Ride 750k

<div>Help us give Simon time who has recently been diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Brain Tumour. An incurable, highly aggressive cancer. We are raising money to extend Simon's life so he will get to enjoy the important family moments every father should be able to experience.

<div>On November 16th 2023, Simon was diagnosed with a brain tumour having noticed he was becoming clumsy and his orientation all over the place. Our worst fears were shortly confirmed when he was told he had a high grade, primary brain tumour, Glioblastoma.
</div>

<div>Simon is 52 and has an amazing wife Steff and two beautiful daughters, Ella and Nelle both of whom are sporty and my brothers absolute priority. Ella is 19 years old and a professional rugby player with Harlequins and plays for England U20s in the Six Nations tournament. England Rugby recently posted a clip of Ella's first professional try against Exeter, calling her one of the rising stars of the women's game ⭐️ ⭐️.

<div>Glioblastoma is incurable, but there are additional, proven treatments that can extend Simon's life beyond those he is currently receiving, but these are not available on the NHS or in the UK. Treatments include Immunotherapy which has been proven to extend life in GBM tumours by stimulating or restoring the immune response against cancer cells. Rapid advances are being made in this area with very promising results being seen in extending survival. Another treatment is Optune®, which uses alternating electrical fields to pulse through the scalp and disrupt tumour cell division, or cause cell death. These prevent the tumour from growing or spreading so quickly.

<div>Our first hurdle is to make sure Simon is around to see Ella develop as a professional rugby player, having been a major influence throughout her junior playing career - so we're going to chuck everything we can at this cruel, awful cancer and give him the best fighting chance!
</div>
